Roy didn't slow like Hextall. He had so many injuries from coming out of the goal (an action he took way too many times) that he felt it necessary to change pads. Also, Hextall's pads weren't much larger than Roy's. That and Roy had so much raw ability, he never needed super huge pads to be dominat...
