I went to the "Processing part of Strong Bad's web page and tried clicking on the signs in the background. I eventually got to a page about weight loss. Anyone know exactly why this is so?

I guess whoever owned that site when TBC made the processing room no longer does.

no. it has not been registered or expired. you kinda have to own a website to understand. i do. http://www.registar.com, or godaddy.com, etc.

Actually, no, you don't.

porplemontage's analysis is more accurate than yours. The site clearly expired at some point and has since been registered by another organization. When the domain name expired (and after the 45-day grace period), another company (located in the Grand Caymans and having the officious-sounding name "Name Administration Inc.") snapped up the domain name and erected a linkfarm, which is a site which masquerades as a search engine and functions primarily to boost other sites' search engine rankings, but also to take the money of foolhardy web surfers. These sites are absolutely worthless to us, but gold to fly-by-night operations in the Grand Caymans. They are the parasites of the web.

Typically these sites target would-be visitors to the site that used to be there, based on the domain name. This one was called "dumpyusa.com", so the only logical sort of linkfarm was one for dubious weight loss miracles.

You kinda have to own a website to understand.

Yeah it must have been a joke because they say in the FAQ section that they won't advertise anyone's website.

You're mistaken. The link was included in this toon before TBC established their "no linking" policy, and has the distinct honor of being the only non-TBC site linked to from Homestarrunner.com. If it was "a joke", and we know it wasn't, it was a really unfunny one, and TBC don't do unfunny.

Quoth the Wiki:
Quote:
A search for "the rumor" dumpyusa on Google reveals that "The Rumor" was a website run by Brent McNeal and Adam Sterritt. Adam is a friend of Matt Chapman and Craig Zobel and brother of Ryan Sterritt. The "Pride," "Detail," and "Ethics" signs in the cartoon refer to corresponding signs posted in Rumor South headquarters (Adam's bedroom) which outline the Rumor's philosophy. Adam used to run a blog called "Adam's Corner", which may or may not be where Coach Z's "More than 2 problems" joke came from. He took down the blog last year, but his entries are still accessible "in archive form" by manually typing in the URL. There may be more interesting Homestar/Matt bits there for people with a lot of time to dig around.
