Okay.

Deep breath.

I'd like to have a friendly and grin-laden discussion about the ongoing epic battle over the wiki fun fact schtuff. Here's why. I haven't been wiki-ing very often of late, and now that I'm browsing (bumbling?) through it again, I can't help but notice the startlingly muggy swamp of fun fact brouhaha. There is debate over what is fun, there is debate over what is fact -- heck, there's even debate over how to go about debating the debating.

I remember being rather eye-rolly about the size of the fun facts once upon a time -- how they often kept growing and growing, how they often remained poorly-written and offered up by unregistered users and so on and so forth. However, now it seems the pendulum has swung to the other side ... so much so, that frankly, bemusedly, if this particular wiki soul sees another fact, of any kind, anywhere, she fears that she might throw her kitchen utensils at it.

Heh. Nah. She -- uh, I mean, I, wouldn't do that. That would be getting too serious. And since the HR Wiki exists to provide HR information -- HR being a funny thing -- the wiki has to be a serious thing about a funny thing. That's the whole trouble, I suspect. We're trying to be organized about fun, and that's somewhat difficult to do. But is it really possible to do that without, well, negatory vibes? Without throwing around stuff like, "I vote no because it's not funny and it sucks and I don't like you and your entire family should take a left at the next exit for HELL!" That kind of attitude seems to be growing of late. In vibes, I mean. And I suspect that's kind of turning folks like moi a little off of the wiki, I think. And that's no good. Because we've got a good thing here. Or at least, we've got an interesting n' amusing thing here.

Am I the only one who feels those vibes? (That's very possible. I'll never win prizes for being a medium.) Or at least, am I the only one who feels like talking nicely about those vibes? I agree, something had to be done about the factoids. And organization is the bee's knees. It just seems a taaaaad bit out of hand right now. To me, anyway. A tad bit "NYAH, so there," in nature. And I guess I just wanted to venture a, "Hey. Hey. Take it easy, eh?"

I'm personally somewhat concerned at the one-person recategorisation that appears to be going on..

Here's where the problem lies:
Most of the time, there's nothing new.
When there is something new, it gets jumped on like a bleeding cat in the ocean surrounded by sharks.

People for the most part want to add stuff to the wiki, not reorganize and pretty up the existing stuff and stubs.

For those people who aren't content to fix up the wiki and whatnot, the only other option is to search for "Fun Facts" that no one has noticed and add them to the Wiki.

I remember way way back, when the HRWiki was still hrwiki.joeyday.com, and I was user 55 or something like that. It was really easy to jump right on something and make a page out of it. Now we have HUNDREDS of users, and it's not so easy anymore.

The only solution I see is to simply have patience.

Our users are here to sift through the crap, just as much as they're here to add new crap to sift through!

We'll keep working on our processes, and we'll see what happens in the future!

In the meantime, if anyone has any ideas that could help any part of the wiki, please send any of the Admins a PM!

That was by far, one of the best speeches ever.

I don't like the Fun Fact Avenger thing going on right now. It's turning me off wiki. I don't have a fancy thesis for this, I just don't like his/her one man campaign.

The Fun Facts are ,indeed, getting out of hand. The whole section about "Good FF vs. Badd FF" has just made everything worse. As much as it would diminish the quslity of the Wiki, I think maybe we should jus delete all Fun Facts- for good.

I don't think that we should delete the fun facts Swoosh. I personally love to read them, so I can find out something that I didn't know.

I do too, but is it worth it? It's causing so much disunity against fellow Wikians!

People will argue about anything. Let's keep the fun facts.

Fun Facts are the only reason I even check the wiki!
