The most offensive thing on H*R?

It's fork, but I don't think he changed his voice. He did change his tone though.

Well, I think it's pretty obvious that he's saying "fork it over." I don't think Homestar would curse, and it wouldn't make any sense if he did.

I think someone mentioned it, but the "sleep" command in Peasant's Quest is a little risque. They couldn't get away with that in most American cartoons

When Homestar says fork "So if you could just fork it over" It might sound like that, or one of the times he says Frank "Frank was the best friggin' soldier I'd ever met." It might sound like ****, so I'd have to go with "fork". "Fowk" does sound kind of profane.

One thing that four and a half years in college taught me was that some people, the super-politically-correct, will be offended by anything. I actually amuse myself watching some of these toons by trying to figure out creative ways that those super-correct types would get offended by some of the stuff in H*R toons.

I know that one look at the wheelchair in Sweet Cuppin Cakes (you know, the one always trying to get Eh, Steve :ehsteve:

) would probably make their heads explode.

The only thing that generally offends me is cursing. I've found a couple of instances where they said almost-bad-type-stuff, but not really. The stuff i found was:

*In Teen Girl Squad 2, Cheerleader said she thought her outfit was hella tight.

*At the end of The House That Gave Sucky Treats, Strong Sad talks about one house giving you eternal damnation.

*In an easteregg for Parsnips-a-plenty, Strong bad says, "curses! I have gone to hell! this is rather unfortunate!"

*In one of the old characters pages, it says Bubs is a helluva dancer.

None of that stuff is that bad, but thats what this thread isa bout, so i figured i may as well postem.

Yeah, those are maybe the most 'offensive' things on the site. But remember, what's offensive to some is perfectly fine to others.

There's a website - I can't be bothered to switch PCs just to get its address, but it's called something like "Aitch-Star-Arr Compendium" - which gives extremely in-depth socio-philosophic analysis of virtually everything in H*R, and one thing they do question is whether the Wheelchair is subliminally associating the disabled with cruelty (being that the 'Chair is out to do Eh Steve! in seemingly without motive). I don't know whether the page in question is meant to be tongue-in-cheek though

Let me be the first to say, as an Englishman, that if anything bothers me about that cartoon, it's the age-old assumption that we all care about the old boot on the throne. That and the constant suspicion that American productions only deal with the English in a condescending way (step forwards The Simpsons with your alternative Christmas message)

Why is Hell and Damn (especially in two of these examples, where they're used in a literal sense) considered swearing, but you don't consider Strong Bad saying "Holy Crap" to be offensive?! Crap is a swear word, although admittedly a mild one. Hell and Damn, however, are completely inoffensive, and are more quaint and amusing than anything.

I guess it must just be a weird United Statesian thing...

Speaking as a Brit, however, I did find the Sbemail where Strong Bad insults England/the English kind of annoying. Not because of a weird national pride, but because of something that really gets on my nerves:

why is it Americans seem to think that England = Britain = UK???

Although I am personally English, the UK is not just England. It's also Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Britain is the island on which England, Scotland and Wales are located, and, together with Northern Ireland, the whole country constitutes the UK. Although it is the largest and the most populous member nation, England is merely one nation/state within the UK.

Ahem... Just something that annoys me

In the teen girls squad one it wasn't used literally, it could techinally bne a 'swear'.

My wife refuses to watch Homestar Runner because it offends her. I'd have to agree that if there's anything that's come close to bothering me it was Cheerleader saying hella tight. It's not so much it offended me. At the time I just thought it ment TGS would start swearing all the time. Other then that, I think it's quite enjoyable.

In PQ, if you go into the baby lady's house and type sleep, it says "That's probably how the baby got there in the first place" or something like that.

Well, as a fan of Southpark, there isn't really anything on H*R that could offend me... but the boldest thing I've probably seen on the site would be Coach Z's rap about "smoking crack/grass."

I'm actually suprised that anyone has found anything offensive on HSR at all. In the US (correct me if i'm wrong, I'm from the UK) swearing is much more taboo. Possibly due to the heavy religious influence of some regions of the country, I don't know. But like Hazhar said, here in the UK, crap is considered a swear word (a minor one) but words like hell (literally are none) go by everyday with nary a wink, along with a lot of other words. Only really the big C can go by on T.V and some disturbance be caused.

There's no real reason. Customs, probably just grew.

The "crap" issue: Crap used to be a swear in the US. But, like all "bad" words, it worked itself into us so much that we barely consider it a swear anymore.

This didn't offend me, but it seemed to have some overtones of a naughty nature: On Marzipan's Answering Machine, when Homestar said Bubs asked him if Marzipan had 'an open mind'.
