I've really never been offended by this site except by accident. For example, in Halloween Potion-ma-jig, when Marzipan says "No way Jorge," I thought she was calling Homestar a _____ head. I didn't watch that toon again for a long time until I read the wiki transcript.

I'm really at a loss to fill in that blank. My best guess (rhymes with "chore") makes no sense in that context.

Nothing. I wouldn't mind if there was a little more comic mischief and language (to a point).

I'm not even white, and I was very surprised by that part. (of course, I wasn't offended)

Also, it REALLY bothers me how the Poopsmith is completely nude all the time.

The 'whitey' thing- I couldn't care less. Homestar is white. Like, If I was to make a picture of him, I'd use a white crayon. It was just a play off of that. (in my opinion anyway)

I'm torn between the naked homestar pixeled out thing, Strong Sad in a bra and the hot oil on Homestar's face that Strong Bad laughs about in "Do-Not Unto Others."

"H*R" and "offensive" don't even belong in the same sentence.

That's pretty borderline if you ask me.

I think this has already been mentioned but in the DVD commentary for "Winter Pool" Strong Bad mentioned going to school with a guy who's last name was "Shi-ted". (say it fast)

Oh, and the Lil' Brudder cartoon. That was just depressing.

The song titles in the Limozeen CD in "concert". I know, they're just showing examples of typical song titles, but "sunset strip(pers)" kinda tore the sixth wall.

I guess I find Marzipan offencive. She's the only girl, but she's so damn irritating. I don't hate any of the characters, but she's not on my happy list. Now the fact that she's the only girl & Strong Bad claims to be a ladiesman who genuinely dislikes her is pure gold.

The end of "record book" where The Cheat nominates Strong Bad for most rectangular mouth.

Strong Bad nearly swears.

I can SWEAR I hear Strong Bad say Horse F***ey in Ever and More. And in coloring, I think he says pervert.

He says "horse puckey". As for coloring, I'm guessing what you're mishearing is "Terbert", Strong Bad's suggestion what the email sender's name, Ter, might stand for. (Though I'm not sure how you could mishear this, as Strong Bad types it out on the Lappy's screen.)

The whole "This'll grow ya some nice fishcorn bushes" thing.
To me, that's the 'most offensive' thing on H*R and it's pretty tame, barely registers as offensive to a fullblooded native (me btw). I thought it was funny. But if I saw somebody running around wearing wearing that kind of stuff around here, they'd probably get the ole single deuce.

I think Thorax Corp takes it way over the edge. I know it's a whole different website entirely, but being linked to Homestar I still think it counts. There are several things on that website that are suggestive, and even some that do more than just suggest.

Umm... also, on 3 Times Halloween Funjob (Which is still one of my favorite halloween cartoons).
:hr: "I told ya I'd get a million 'Lb's of candy!"
:bubs: "That don't smell like candy to me."
:hr: "Hey, you're right. The Poopsmith, did you give me bum candy?"
:bubs: "heh, he sure did!"

:sb: "So Marzipan, the Log Lady huh? Maybe you should get together with the Poopsmith!"

The most offensive thing, to me, is actually the "O Holy Crap" song. Try as I might, I could not justify the lyrics as anything but a slant on Christianity.

No, I don't interpret it that way. Take a look at the analysis from the wiki talk page:

Quote:
Just how is this supposed to be offensive again? Look over the lyrics again, and pay attention to the parts I have put in bold:
"They didn't know
If he was really stupid
But then they asked somebody
And they said he was stupid
He said, uh, that he was great
And ev'body believed him
That guy was GREEAAAAA—"
Don't you see? According to the song, there were some people who weren't sure whether this guy was stupid. So they asked some other people, who said he was stupid. But then the guy says, "No, I'm not. I'm not stupid. I'm great." And then everyone believed him. Strong Bad isn't calling the guy stupid, he's saying other people called him stupid. In actual fact, this guy turned out to be great. If we're talking about Jesus here, not only is this actually a compliment, but it's also partially true. Ever read The Bible? There's plenty of parts in there where some people thought he was being a bit high-and-mighty, going around claiming to be the Son of God (that's why he got crucified). But then Jesus told them, well, that he was great. And then everyone believed him. Hence, as a Christian, I was not offended at all by this song. In fact, it never occurred to me that he was even singing Jesus anyway. He could have been singing about anyone, or even no one in particular. It's just that because the original song is about the birth of Christ, everyone thinks it must be about him. Come on, Decemberween is a secular holiday! – The Chort 20:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I haven't really taken anything into offense. The only thing I frown upon is the Limozeen vs. Sloshy easter egg. I'm not saying it's offensive. I just don't agree with the message

I personally don't agree with that analysis. Other vague references to religion in the H*R body of work do not point toward the Brothers Chaps taking religion very seriously in my opinion. I think the entire attitude of the song is mocking, and the fact that other people "believed He was great" at the end does not justify this attitude. In fact, the point of Christianity is not merely to acknowledge Jesus as great. Also, the end of the email where Strong Sad says, "God bless us every...," Homestar cuts him off and says Happy Holidays. Very irreverent, which is why I find it offensive.

Someone's probably mentioned this but, what the crap did Coach Z mean in that Marzipans Answering Machine whe he said, "put something in Homestar's pants"?

It's definitely true that TBC do not treat religion seriously in their work. But I don't think it can be said that they treat anything seriously in their toons: Religion, politics, any of the usual serious topics. It's a cartoon about dumb animal characters. How could religion be treated seriously?

Unlike some people here, I do think that O Holy Crap is talking about Jesus. Is it making fun of him? I dunno, he says "They asked somebody, and they said he was stupid." Not asserting that he was stupid, especially since it all seems pretty ad libbed. Even if it is: It's Strong Bad we're talking about here. He makes fun of everybody. I've no doubt he'd be willing to make fun of anyone: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, you name it. (We'd probably never see an unambiguous example, because while SB the fictional character would be willing to do so, TBC the real people would likely be unwilling to show it.) So I really don't see a good reason to get offended by what Strong Bad said.

Yeah, that "Was" really offensive... In fact. I think that's the most disgusting joke on HR, also it's among the only ones.
And another thing, yeah it's gonna be offensive in some things. TBC aren't kids, they even said that it's just their style to be "Family friendly". They can put things like this in.

That toon was from 10 years ago, before they'd really settled on their style. Plus I think he's talking about a bologna sandwich or a colony of ants.

Well ... I think the point is that Strong Bad is being stupid and offensive there, not that it's acceptable behavior. Strong Bad is supposed to be ... bad. Strongly.

I'd interpret that the other way round. I think the point of that is that Homestar's being stupid .... because Homestar is stupid. And so it's saying the anti-Christian political correctness about holidays is stupid ... like Homestar is being in that scene.

While it might be tame compared to the rest of the internet, the blood spurting, human-like bowling pin thing getting killed off in "Labor Dabor" did kind of surprise me.

Transcript described it well:
"A single bowling pin stands on a white table. A guillotine blade comes down from the top and splits it in half. The halves fall onto the table, revealing disgusting-looking bowling pin innards, complete with human-like skeletons. The halves spurt blood into the center of the screen, forming the word 'SPLiT'."

Don't know if it counts as offensive, but it certainly creeped me out coming from Homestar.
