Some of you may know me as "Carbonated_So_Da" from Homestarrules... I posted on that forum for a while, but it seems to have disappeared. Maybe some of you have trickled down into the Homestar Runner Wiki Forums, perhaps?

If you recognize me you are awesome.

Anyway, these are all the bonus songs in the game, taken from a finished version:

I'm a huge fan of Guitar Hero and figured you guys would be interested.

No, if TBC sold out, we'd all tune into Homestar Runner every week on Cartoon Network. It's just a freakin' bonus song.

So allowing yourself to be referenced in a video game is "selling out?"

Me, I just think that RULES. XD

No, Obviously they got paid to have them use their song. If you get paid for something and you didnt even earn it, then its selling out. I bet you that as soon as the game sells to a coupla million people, Cartoon Network will be calling them up asking them to do a cartoon, and their stuff will be sold in Hot Topics for all the Goths and emos to buy, and they'll have a huge house, and a different car to use each day, for both of them.

Sure it would be cool to see it on Cartoon Network or Nick or something, but then a bunch of posers and n00bs would come along saying "HAH!, all you f*gs on dis forum are idiots! I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT DIS CARTOON!" and it would end up like Happy tree friends.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure. Most non-h*R fans won't even care about the Trogdor song. It won't lead to all that crap you mentioned.

COLA, try to use some common sense. It's a bonus song in Guitar Hero 2. It's not the end of the world. I really doubt they did this for the money. They probably did it because they thought it would be cool to have their song in the game. They are not going to sell out to Cartoon Network. They've stated in the past that they don't want to do a TV show, and even if they did, it's their cartoon and their decision. Get over it.

In a way, that's like saying their online store full of merchandise is selling out. I mean, people actually pay for DVDs of toons they can basically watch for free on the Internet.
And what about Trogdor being mentioned in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or other such spots in the media? Doesn't that mean they sold out a long time ago? After all, when that kind of stuff happens, they get free screen time for the stuff they do for living.

Even if they do get paid royalties for this bonus tune, they're most likely going to use the money on maintaining the site (and of course on living, since people with jobs usually spend their money also on other stuff than bills). Oh, and what do you really think some minor game studio is going to pay them? Millions? Sure.

If some major television network, for example, approached them and TBC agreed to make a deal with them, that would be selling out, in my opinion. But that didn't happen, and I don't think it's going to happen, knowing their attitude about their creation.

Besides, nowadays it seems like if any less famous artist (including folks on the Internet, like TBC) tries to make even little money from what they do, it's almost automatically seen as selling out. For artists who do their stuff for living, it's, you know, kind of essential to get atleast some kind of money from it. It's their job. Or should they just starve in order to stay cool and not "sell out"?

It's just a stupid bonus song, jeez.

COLA you seriously need to chill out. TBC aren't selling out, the sky isn't falling. They were probably paid a little bit of money for the song, not hundreds of thousands. And there isn't going to be posers coming on the forum pretending they know everything, because we'll blow their minds with our knowledge.

Also, please watch the language. Putting a star for one letter does not make it alright.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this at all, it's just friggin' cool! :). No one's selling out, what's wrong with them making money anyways? They deserve it. They've put a lot of hours into homestarrunner.com

Looking forward to playing it.

Just so you know, they would have to re-record the entire song most likely. You can't just dump the MP3 into the game.

They needs to have the guitar on a separate track, and most likely the bass as well.

They earn every sent they have made, without a doubt.

COLA: A one-off thing like this isn't selling out simply by definition. If they do something that lessens the quality of the work that they produce, simply to get more money, then that would be selling out. I'll wait until I hear the GH2 version of the song before I decide whether they've lessened the quality considerably, but given TBC's previous attention to detail, and their stated opinions on things like money and advertising, I strongly doubt this will qualify for "selling out" status.

Does anyone know if the version on GH2 is the website version or CD version? Not that it affects me in any way, I'm just curious.

Well, In GH1, all the songs WERE NOT performed by the original artist/band.

In GH2, MOST of the songs are not the original tracks, but a select few are, so chances are that either version will not be the one in the game.

Actually, the bonus songs were the original performances, while the 30 more well-known songs were covers.
The question is, for one-player mode, are you Squeedly or Meedly?

For the sake of argument, let's say your assumption that that they are getting paid is correct. How would they have not earned that? They wrote the song.

I'm going to guess one of them on most difficulty's, and on expert you're both.

I'd say CD version if anything, It's more guitar driven.

Yes, they wrote the song, over 3 years ago, and they just own the rights to it. Most of the songs on GH1 were not performed by the origional artists, so its more than likley that some punk or emo band is gonna do a re-recording of it, and all TBC will have to do is extend teh rights of the song to the makers of GH2, and they probably wont own the rights to the song after the game comes out.

WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!

All of the bonus songs in Guitar hero are performed by the original band!

And TBC would still have the rights to the song. Where the heck did that come from anyways?

I'm excited for trogdor on GH2. the first rumor that i heard was that they were using some unlicensed songs, which was more than likely only a rumor, because i imagine that that probably would not have continued.

and as for the whole thing with COLA being mad, uh, TBC are allowed to do with their work what they desire. you're a fan of homestarrunner, not the only person in the world who knows about it or enjoys it. Don't be quite so possessive, y'know?

and david bowie, kiss (though i dislike them), valient thorr, etc, etc. are not "punk and emo" as you seem to enjoy classifying them. yeah, and i think i'm about as confused as jon is about the rights situation. licensing something out (which is what that would be) doesn't wrest control of their intellectual property away from them. rather, it gives them a bit of profit on their fun and work, some publicity, and turns a few more people onto H*R.

You say they will lose rights to the song?

Lets look at this from TBC's point of view.

If they lost rights to the Trogdor song, they would have to discontinue the Dragon email, Strong Bad sing CD, The DVD it's on (and in turn, the rest of DVDs, since no reason selling an incomplete set), the Happy Birthday Trogdor Toon, (and in the case that Harmonix will own intulectiual rights to Trogdor) All Trogdor merchindise, any cartoon he's mentioned in (quite a few).

And I don't know how much Harmonix paid them, but there's no way they would go through with that if they lost that much.

Guitar Hero 2 goes gold in 3 week, and I have yet to seen Trogdor being wiped from the face of the site.

Good day sir.
