 Post subject: New idea: message saying "Next update: ???"

I know the topic sounds a little strange and confusing, but I'm just saying the Chapman Bros. should start putting up a little note on every main page reminding us when the next update will be so we won't have to fret about anything that hasn't come up yet.

Example: NEXT UPDATE: 04/09/07

And if they take a little while to do something...

NEXT UPDATE: (To be announced)

I thought this might let us know that TBC might be on vacation. Whaddya think?

Well, they do sometimes do something like that. You know, the "New toon later today" bubble. But maybe they don't put a next update bar because they never know when exactly the toon will be finished.

the biggest change would to change the downloads page to link to podcasts instead of the constant bubble.

Well, they added a podcast thing to the bottom links now, so I'd say that's good enough.

I see you two acknowledged the podcast's new location. It bugs me that they're still not doing anything about the downloads page, maybe they should take it off or something.

Oh, and we can also never tell when the sketchbook, so-called "weekly" fan stuff, and so-called quote of the "week" are coming up - sometimes they appear in the morning, sometimes they appear in the afternoon. That's why I also think they should also have a small note showing when the minor updates are coming.

Your post belies an assumption that TBC themselves have a good idea of when certain updates will take place. I think you are mistaken. Even Strong Bad Emails, the site's most consistent feature, are posted erratically which indicates clearly that TBC publish cartoons "when they're done," not according to a rigid schedule. My impression is that TBC rarely have a good idea of when their next item will be completed, which makes providing us with that information impossible.

My advice: Chill out and enjoy the cartoons as they come. Knowing that the next one is coming out tomorrow or next Thursday does nothing to enhance one's enjoyment of the site.

Thanks for the advice. I really needed it. Next week, when I see a button saying "email soon," it still won't matter to me. After all, many people still need to take their time on what they're doing. And besides, I can do my college homework while I wait.

This has been, my 100th Post!

Since Sbemailman bumped this here topic, it's worth mentioning that Charlie Jr. might just about get his wish: At their Georgia Tech appearance, TBC said that they were considering launching an "Excuses Blog" where they could blog whenever they're delayed in putting up new content. Wicked cool.
