Given that Matt Chapman does a majority of the voices on the website, do you think that he's probably another Mel Blanc, the Man of a Thousand Voices? That guy had done a LOT of voices, especially for many of the famous Looney Tunes characters at Warner Bros. (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc.).

Do you think Matt could be another Mel Blanc with all the voices he does?

Well, they're both good at voices, but I'm not exactly sure if that's significant of anything. Did Mel Blanc also create and write Looney Tunes? I don't remember.

I'm not talking about creating and writing characters, just voicing them.

Mel Blanc was AMAZING, he did hundreds of voices that were all different! Matt is also incredibly good, but I'm not sure if he's reached Mel's level yet.

Mel set the bar for voice acting so high, I'm not sure if anyone can ever reach it. Though Matt does seem like if anyone could, it would be him.

There are very few voice actors who can match the sheer caliber of Mel Blanc. In fact, take a good look at most cartoons these days. You'll find that most actors will do one, maybe two voices per cartoon. Cartoons released in theaters tend to go for star power rather than talent in most cases, and usually seek actors who match the personality of the character they're trying to portray. You don't find many voice actors whose careers and reputations are based on sheer talent anymore.

I'd say more of a new Billy West. Of course, we won't actually need a new Billy West until the old one retires, but whatever.

Matt's not even close. Jeff Bergman can and has. He was Mel's pupil and does all the voices that Mel did. Frank Welker is another one that is right up there, too.

^Billy West, Tom Kenny, & Jim Cummings are, I think, the 3 best in the biz today.

What about Jeff Bennett and Rob Paulsen?

Pfft. You can almost ALWAYS tell where Billy West or Tom Kenny did a voice.

Yeah, that's true for the most part. I can always tell when it is tom kenny, and I can usually tell when it is billy west. Well, when he's playing a human under 100 years old, anyway.

I don't think that to be a great voice actor you have to be able to do a bunch of different voices. For example, Richard Horvitz is one of my favorites, but he's always very noticeable, especially since he did Invader Zim. Since then there always seems to be a bit of Zim in most of his characters.

Well, that came first, so you would argue that there's a little bit of Daggett in everything he's done.

I actually think that's not a "voice of a character", but that's actually his real voice being pronounced a little in the voices he does.

Well, I know that when he does the thing where he deepens his voice at the end of a sentance, that's from Zim. That was something he picked up from Jhonen Vasquez, the creator.

A lot of people can do a lot of voices (me included). I think Matt is just blessed with the gift, and its not a particularly rare one, although I know not EVERYONE can do it, either.

Very true. Being able to do those all those voices is a gift, as well as coming up with the voices as well.
