Hey guys you should definitely read this news article posted this morning:

http://www.wired.com/entertainment/theweb/news/2007/06/homestarrunner

Originally they said that they submitted the show idea to a few networks early on but later realized that syndication would inevitably change the comedic style of the show. Matt confirms in this article:

"They wanted to plug it into their model -- that all comedy was gag-related, not character-driven."

I'm glad The Brothers Chaps have chosen freedom over greater fame. Their unique style of creativity, animation, and character interactions shouldnt be altered to fit Cartoon Network or even worse Comedy Central's audience.

This is awesome. Go TBC! Character humor is much better. And I'd like to see them stay more into "kid friendly" humor, (which they've diverted slightly from of late) instead of becoming an adult cartoon. Is it just me, or are "adult cartoons" watched mostly by teenagers and "kid friendly" cartoons like the HSR style mostly watched by college-aged people? Just sayin'.

This wasn't a surprise for me. I knew TBC would always remain a Web phenomenon.

This is sweet. But maybe they should make a TV show. (Not with Homestarrunner.com stuff, but brand new stuff. That'd be cool.)

Yeah. I think it might end up being not as good as Homestar though, what with all the rules and such that the TV peoples would impose on them. Then again, if done right (i.e. with respect to the Chaps and, if you'll pardon me for being slightly pretentious, their creative vision), a TV show could be just the ticket.

Homestar should definitely stay an internet thing, though. I mean, come on. Besides all that stuff that other people would force on it, they wouldn't have any easter eggs! Homestar just wouldn't be the same without easter eggs.

This obviously doesn't surprise me, they've said in the past that they wouldn't want Homestar to be a syndicated TV series.

They've said this kind of thing before. I noticed that the writer of the article put Strong Bad on the same level as the Poopsmith. That's pretty funny.

Do you know how smart this is? Homestar Runner would've never been the same if they were to put it on TV. They'd take out the whole "indy" comedic style and make it some sort of Republican-type comedy crap that's on TV today. Go TBC!

First of all, bravo for the Brothers! TBC keeps it real.

Second of all, I don't think the Homestar Runner humor style is really suited to TV format--at least not to a 30-minute TV show or even a 15-minute episode. Homestar Runner cartoons are plot-light and character-heavy, and while the characters' personalities are great for generating humor and keeping us engaged for a short cartoon, you really couldn't fill a TV episode with usual H*R fare. The TV medium's got a very different feel to it, the plotting and the texture of the material would have to change, or else the viewers would be left with this sense of just incoherent randomness. It would almost have to have a "serious moment at the end" or something like that in order to keep the audience invested in the thing. Am I making any sense here?

I'll say this much, though. I think it would be pretty great to air a two-minute short between shows, or perhaps at the fifteen-minute mark between segments of a show. I don't think you'd have to change a thing to make H*R "fit" in the TV medium if you aired it in that fashion.

I think its great that they aren't giving in to the big corprate guys.Homestar wouldn't make any sense on adult swim, let alone comedy central. Besides, I only watch futurama on adult swim anyway.

I think Teen Girl Squad would do well as an Adult Swim or Comedy Central Homestar spinoff show...I mean just the idea sounds like it'd fit the audience, but Strong Bad Emails, anything with Homsar and that are too good for TV.

Oooo....smart move on their part. It would have been a BIG mistake if they gave in to putting it on the TV. It would not only lose it's charm, the media would just ruin it. They would totally butcher it so it's either dumbed down or too "adult swim" like.

either way it would be HORRIBLE

I'm glad they're smart and keeping it indy. It's such a relief. :hr:

I'm glad they're staying off of CC and CN. Both are alot less kid friendly than Homestar Runner should be.
I'm also glad that they still have a TV idea in the back of thier head though too. Maybe not with Homestarrunner and Co. but a Chaps TV show would be good to see.

They should stay! I mean it would be cool to see TBC on a TV series but Homestarrunner.com is a lot better than a TV show!

Yeah, I think they should keep their integrity. I mean, remember in 'best thing' when Non-Space Gary says, "Weh-eh-ell, meet us next time kids, in sydication, or maybe on DVD!!!"? Yeah, TBC don't exactly seem to be able to warm to the idea too quickly. That even a phrase? Who cares??? I TALK FUNNY!!! :sm:
I must confess, I'm going to send them a screenplay for a Hanukkah-themed 'Toon. Like I said, TBC are big on integrity, and they'll probably only run their own 'Toons. But in case they do accept it, NO ONE STEAL MY IDEA!!! :trogdor: :trogdor: :sb: :trogdor: :trogdor:

They wouldn't do Hannuka(sp?); that's what Decemberween is for. Not offending people because their holiday isn't chosen.

Well, if you want to diss my idea more, go to my thread Jewish H*R Characters? on the politics and religion page.

Don't be so critical; I'm just saying(and are the guys in that thread) that it probably wouldn't happen because Decemberween was made to not single any of the holidays out.

When I read this, my series of thoughts went like this:

(?) :-|

Yeah, I'm sure that all comedy on the TV is republican and no republicans can be funny. Totally, man.

As for TBC, great. If there were a homestarrunner TV show, I'm sure they would make it as good as they could, and it would be funny, but it would probably need major changes, one of which is I wouldn't be able to watch it anymore. :P

I'll tell ya. Picturing homestar runner on cartoon network is hard!

I CAN picture the announcer guy saying:

coming up next, is strong bad email, only on cartoon network.
