Post subject:  Seek Bar (Easy Way to Transcribe Using Bookmarklets)

I found a good website with bookmarklets. There is one that is very helpful when transcribing. It will temporarily put a seek bar and pause button under a flash object. This allows you to easily go through different parts of a toon and even access easter eggs without clicking on anything but the seek bar. To enable the bookmarklet, you drag the bookmarklet link to your Favorites/Bookmarks. When you want to use it, click on it in your Favorites/Bookmarks.Here is where it's at. It is called seek bar or seek bar for IE.

I remember else someone talking about these before. Anyway, those are very cool when watching a toon, because you don't have to start from the very beginning to see a certain part.

What browser are you using? How did you install it? Does it appear on your links bar or in your bookmarks? What happens when you click on it while there is a Flash movie on the page you're looking at?

Very nice. Maybe I'll start doing some transcripts again.

This would help me quite a bit when doing transcripts, believe me.

I usually use the swf file if I want to pause, but this seems like a better way. Unfortunelty, I'm using a public computer currently, so I'll have to keep bookmarking.

Personally, I'm not going to use these. I prefer the conventional way of making transcripts. It's boring to do it the conventional way, but I still do it.

This may put me out of a job making minor edits, though.

Bumped for an interesting find.

If you've used the seek bar to watch the emails, you'll know that the easter eggs are contained at the end of the flash file, and you can view them by sliding the button forward instead of clicking. Well, I was watching Mile today, and when I watched the easter egg, I noticed that there was still a little bit of the flash file left after the egg was done. So I slid the button forward, and this is what I saw:

Figure 1

It dances for a few seconds the way Homestar danced in The House Tha Gave Sucky Treats. I'm going to start watching all the emails with the seek bar on to see if there are any more unfinished easter eggs hiding in there.

[Edit by InterruptorJones: Don't post huge pictures that widen the page -- just link to them.]

That's probably because there is no scriptable Flash on this page. Try using the link on a page with Flash actually on it, like any homestarrunner.com toon.

But if it isn't working on a page with Flash on it, all I can tell you is to make sure that you're using the right code for your browser.

Are you using the right bookmarklet? If you're using Mozilla Firefox, drag the "seek bar" button (on the page I showed you to in the first post) into your Bookmarks. If you're using Internet Explorer, drag the "seek bar for IE" button (on the page I showed you to in the first post) into your Favorites. Then go to a toon on H*R.com, go to your Bookmarks/Favorites, and click on "seek bar" (or "seek bar for IE").

I don't think that's an error you would get if you following the instructions.

The Instructions wrote:
To keep bookmarklets in order to use them on other web pages, drag them to your Bookmarks Toolbar.

And make sure you're using the correct version for your browser (i.e if you're using Internet Explorer, make sure you grab the one labelled "seek bar for IE").
