Can you detect an Atlanta accent in The Brothers Chaps' normal speaking voices? Also when they do their 'announcer' voices in the toons (like the SBASAF reel or the Homestar Jr. commercial, for example). I can't hear a very strong one on Matt Chapman, but Missy Palmer's is pretty thick (particularly when she does Marzipan). The Atlanta accent is light and hard to detect since it's metropolitan, but I can hear it. How would you characterize it? Words like "coke" and "coach" are pronounced differently and r's are harder too. You think their accent is slight because they're not native to Atlanta? Plus do you think Coach Z has a Canadian or Midwestern/Minnesotan accent?

I think you can hear Mike's accent pretty well in this interview, Matt seems to not have one:

I assume you can hear Missy's because I don't think she alters her voice in any way to do Marzipan. Matt's would be tough to make out because he does so many voices and changes his voice dramatically to do them.

I think you can kind of tell Matt and Mike's accent from DVD commentaries and stuff. And occasionally when they do the 'announcer' voices in toons, unless I'm thinking of a different accent.

Coach Z definitely has a Midwestern accent, not Canadian.

I can hear a little bit of a twang in Marzipan's voice, but that's about it.

she doesnt change her voice to do marzipan, and oddly, i live in new englnad and there is this bully in my school (who hates computer geeks like me :-| ) who sounds just like marzipan. and she claimed she was from massachusetts (sorry if i spelled that wrong) so i am now confused on state accents.

Marzipan's voice is not necessarily derived from any type of accent at all, though.

Yeah, she naturally has that twang.

I'm pretty sure that he just has a weird screwed up voice.

I meant Mike and Matt Chapman's (as well as Missy Palmer's) normal speaking voices. Someone told me that Atlanta's too metropolitan to have an accent, but I disagree. I think you can hear it in Mike for sure.

To be honest, Coach Z seems to have more of a south side Chicago dialect. The Blues Brothers should explain it.

I should know. I live near Chicago and many of my older relatives grew up there.

My sister lives in the Atlanta metro area, and I've been there many times (added up, I've lived there for a few months). I've lived in both Missouri and New Jersey, so I'm pretty sensitive to accents in general.

Atlanta has no accent. You'll find southern accents if you look around hard enough, but that's because the people moved from outside Atlanta, just like most of the population. You probably wouldn't have to spend more than half an hour looking for someone from any arbitrarily chosen state.

If you want to discern natives, you need to look at the words themselves, not the accent with which they are spoken. For example, up here in the north, we press keys on keyboards. Down there, they mash them. Instead of tow trucks, they have wreckers (and cars don't get into accidents - they get into wrecks). Up here, we buy liquor in liquor stores. Down there, they visit package stores. Up here, we turn headlights on. Down there, they burn them. Up here, bridges freeze. Down there, they ice. And so on.

I can only detect Missy's accent, but yeah, with Matt it is hard to tell. Mike, it is sort of showing.

I agree with Coach Z's accent being midwestern, as it definitely is not Canadian. :p

I cannot notice any distinct accents in TBC--they've always sounded regular. However, Missy seems to have a noticeable midwestern accent when playing the role of Marzipan. I don't remember what her regular voice sounds like, though.

She uses her normal voice to play Marzipan.
