Is it normal for a site to cost so much? I can't help but think that the HRWiki is some capitolist online company's cash cow.

Yes, it's normal for a site of this size to cost this much to host.

No, it's not. My dad hosts his site for way less than $2000/yr. He has a lot of space, too! He could write more than 1,945 articels.

And host a forum with 471,880 posts, and another wiki with 28,272 pages? That seems unlikely.

The server is a little big for the site, but some of that extra space and bandwith is sold at FellowSites, and that money is taken into account. But yes, it is normal for a site like this to cost this much, because it's not just about how much space it can hold - it's about having a high-powered server with a lot of bandwidth that can handle millions of visitors quickly and reliably.

The amount of traffic we get necessitates quite a bit of server power.
A phpBB forum is not exactly light on a server. Considering the number of posts we get here and the number of Marzipan/Cardboard Marzi fanfics we get over on the fanstuff wiki, I think we're getting a bargain.
