Ok, so I know its Been quite a while sence e-mail 188, and there are probably a ton of other threds associated to fanfics,
I wish. This forum is not a very fanfic oriented forum. I don't think any is, really. Including the fanstuff forum, which is more like "Video game. Video game. Video game. Look at this fanstuff I made! I can has opinions plz?" I still haven't figured out what's to hate about my liking fanfiction. It's not like I'm forcing anyone to read it.

1. charicters not acting or talking like they should. If your going to bother using a pre-made invironment why would you then make the charicters act in ways that arent there norm. it dosent make sence. if you were gonna do that why didint you just make up your own stuff.
Strong Bad saying "Since that's totally the way I talk" in fan club was my favourite line in anything ever. I'm exaggerating a little, but it frustrates me that so little fanfiction gets the way the characters talk right. Still, I'm pretty sure getting the speech patterns right is quite difficult for most people. But you have no excuse not to make them act at least reasonably in character.

2. fanfics that do things that wouldent happen in there normal place. this is most offen represented through sex and violence for things that would have a PG rating (like well... homestarrunner). yeah i know strog bad probably "would" cave homestars head in with a sledge hammer if this was a more adult oriented site, but its not, so he shouldent. seriously, i dont want to read a graphicly depicted sex scean between beutey and the beast. OK, if you were writeing a friday the 13th fanfic, fine. horror movies are pretty much built on sex and violence, but i dont want to see it in a saturday morning cartoon.
I that agree things that don't fit the universe shouldn't happen, because they don't happen in situations where they could. Strong Bad wouldn't suddenly start swearing when Homestar's being as stupid as he normally is, for example. But things that won't happen in canon just because they weren't shown onscreen or had no reason to happen are part of the appeal of fanfiction. I believe that's why there's so much romance fic in non-romantic fandoms. I do prefer original flavour fanfiction most of the time, though. The other kind is harder to do well.

3. and this is really just a combination of the first two, to a degree. slash. dear god it hurts. i mean seriously, unless the chariters are openly gay then dont make them act gay, and dont do it with a childrens cartoon. to me this is just a small step from pediphilia. nothing ruins childhood memeories more than seeing two charicters from you old favorite cartoon having graphic sex. the most jarring example that comes to mind that ive seen is Megatron/Starscreem, gay robot sex. *shudder shudder*
Homestar Runner's not specifically a children's cartoon. I don't think it's really aimed at anyone. Anyway, I disagree completely. Although I don't see the appeal of slash (I do see the appeal of crack, which is why I like Homestar Runner slash), that doesn't make it less valid than the things I do enjoy. Unless it's written badly and OOC, and anything can be written badly and OOC. Slash just seems to be easier to do badly. And writing squicky stories about about something you liked as a kid has nothing to do with pedophilia. It's disturbing, but... If you know from the outset that something's going to disturb you, then why read it?

But that being said, fanfic isint bad. it's just bad when it dose this kind of thing. personaly i wouldent write it cause i feel im stealing someone elses idea. i know if i made somthing and it got popular it'd feel to me like someone had been in my house. mabey if they were nice, itd be still in good shape, but if there like the above peices itd be like someone threw a huge party in my house when i was gone and now id have to clean it up.
I feel that it's more like someone is using clones of your characters, not that I would know, but I understand that having stories written about your characters can be disturbing, especially if it's badly written. I'd just take it as a compliment, if my characters were interesting enough for someone else to want to write about them.
I don't feel uncomfortable writing about other peoples' characters; I've been doing it since I was five and can't seem to control it; but I do feel uncomfortable writing about other peoples' fancharacters, and I'm not sure why that is. Surely it's the same thing? But there's more chance of other fans seeing my writing, so I suppose that has something to do with it.
