For awhile there I thought the site wasn't quiiite as good as it was say in 2003-2005 or so. Back when it was relatively new. But I was thinking about how things have changed since way back when the site first began to gain popularity. Personally, the past few months I think have been really good with lots of good stuff... I think it's getting to be as good as it was back then. But that's not what I'm talking about here. I'm not talking about the quality of the toons. I'm talking about the novelty of it all. Back in 2002/2003 there weren't many good flash toons on the internet. Certainly nothing on the level of H*R. There was stupid things like Joe Cartoon but that's about it. Homestar was a refreshing change of pace with really good, creative animation/artwork and great characters. Back then of course the characters were new to us and so were all the jokes. I remember how funny I thought Homestar was in the beginning and then when Strong Bad said he was the real reason I was there I didn't realize how true that statement would be until later. Strong Bad E-mails was so cool because it was intriguing getting to interact with a fictional character like that. The humor was a lot funnier to me in the beginning because I had never seen anything quite like this little world TBC had created. And I had already seen a ton of the emails before I found out they had HIDDEN things in them, the easter eggs! This was before I found the Wiki and before Firefox and before the H*R tool thing in Greasemonkey, etc. Fast forward to now, 6 or 7 years since I found the site and even though the quality is still there for the most part, it doesn't grab me quite like it did when I first found it. Strong Bad, while still funny a lot of the time, is becoming more tired in his jokes than he used to be. I don't laugh like I did then. Except in this past Decemberween toon, I laughed real hard at the part where he wonders what would happen to Homestar. But that's what I'm trying to get at. Flash animation has become more advanced and prominent than it was when H*R first started. The little cartoon has been famous for awhile now, but most of what it's most famous for has also been around for years now. Characters like Homsar, Trogdor, Stinkoman, TGS, etc. But what has come out LATELY that has had as big of an impact as those things? The TTG games, SBCG4AP is definitely getting them attention... but it's incorporating all those classic parts of the site. But I mean, there was a time when all those "classics" were coming out relatively one after the other. I mean, I was there when Trogdor first appeared... and when someone asked Strong Bad what he would look like as a Japanese character, etc. But there hasn't been as much lately that has become a permanent part of the site. So what I'm trying to get at is do you think people are beginning to lose interest as the novelty and newness of the site begins to fade? Like, there hasn't been any really good additions to the site like TGS or Cheat Commandos in awhile... and Strong Bad E-mails have ended. And I might note that this forum has also seen better and more active days. It seems pretty dead compared to a few years ago. I was just wondering what other peeps think? How many people do you think still watch H*R every Monday? |

I think if they really are ending Sbemails, they are doing it so they can add more novelty. I think they realize this. |

Trust me, people like TBC are good at pulling themselves onto higher ground. They'll think of something! |

Well I would love to see some new kind of feature or whatever to bring more interest to the site. I mean, the whole sbemail idea was pretty ingenius. Can they really come up with something else? |

They could do something like: 'How To Kill The KOT' Every week, there would be a different elaborate plan to kill him. Like bunny suicides. But with KOT. It could be like those scenes from crash bandicoot games where there are like 100 different deaths. Except longer. And with The KOT. |
