Homestar Runner's been going on for next to 10 years now, and The Brothers Chaps are as on form as ever. We all know that. (glares at Next Epi-Snowed topic)
But we all know it might not last forever. So what do you think will happen in the next 10, maybe 20 years? When do you think Homestar will end?
Also, if the Brothers Chaps retire somehow and there is still a demand for H*R, who will carry on the job?

...Their kin? Close friends? If it does end, though, it will hopefully have a memorable ending.

I can't imagine it continuing without TBC's direct input. (This isn't Nancy, after all.) Given that Matt does almost all the voices, it's pretty safe to say that when he's out, it's over. I do hope, whenever that day is, that it goes out with a bang.

Yeah, maybe actually make a toon that exceeds 7 minutes! <everyone gasps> I bet The Brothers Chaps will want to work in every last joke they had thought about using into it. Whatever happens, I hope the last episode will be better than Bonus Stage's (that one was pretty lame if you ask me.)

Perhaps ironically, the one that comes the closest is... retirement, at 6:53.

My ideas for the finale:
Homestar and Marzipan marry
Strong Bad gets an actual girlfriend and spends more time dating than checking email
Strong Sad beats up Strong Mad
Bubs' stand either closes or expands
Everyone dies

I agree that as long as the cartoons are made by the same two people, it'll have to die when they do. But I want at least a 30-minute grand finale- perhaps even a feature film release, if it's feasible. And mabye Little Girl and Very, Very Little Girl can carry on the tradion with their own, brand-new webshow!

Here are some must-haves for the finale:
- A TGS, Powered by the Cheat, Old-Timey, Cheat Commandos, Sweet Cuppin' Cakes, AND Puppet Stuff moment
- Strong Bad revealing how to type with boxing gloves and finally finding love
- Dangeresque 3!
- A talking The Cheat with a 3-D Flash cartoon
- Likewise, Pom Pom talks and the Poopsmith reveals why he took his vow of silence
- What happens to the Teen Girl Squad when they grow up
- Homestar and Marzipan get married and have a baby
- the King of Town goes on a diet and reveals how he became king
- Strong Sad beats everyone up using mystical Tai Chi powers
- Strong Mad flawlessly reads Shakesphere
- Coach Z's new single tops the charts
- Bubs Concession Stand becomes a nationwide chain
- Senor Cardage is revealed to be a future version of Strong Bad
- Homsar says something semi-coherent

Then, to properly end the finale, Trogdor burninates the entire town and everybody dies.

... that's not asking too much, is it?

I was also thinking that a movie would be the way to go. A 90 minute movie distributed online and on DVD would be a great way to lay the series to rest.

Though I don't really want to think about it. I hope the ending is still a long ways off.

Well i hardly doubt TBC will be ending it anytime soon. I mean that's their job eh? And they're FINE as long as Matt can still do the voices properly and Mike can still animate. I'd say they'll probably take a stop to it in fifteen twenty years? TBC must be close to fourty by now...

Matt is currently 31. He's about a week younger than me. Mike is a three years older than Matt.

You never know. Lots of artists quit at the top of their game. Just look at Bill Watterson with Calvin and Hobbes. Though I sincerely hope that TBC won't quit any time soon.

I do think, though, that it would be better for them to quit at the top of their game (even if that meant right now) rather than having the quality of the toons peter out over the next five or ten years. I would also hope that they don't end up like the equivalent of the Rolling Stones and do this until they're 60. Even if the quality is still good.

And I seriously doubt that TBC would ever end the H*R series with a bunch of toons "tying everything together" (i.e. Homestar and Marzipan getting married). I mean, what is this, Who's the Boss? They would end it without any resolution. Although, on second thought, they might end it the former way, as a parody.

I've always considered Homestar Runner cartoons as the 21st century equivalent to old newspaper comic strips. One every week and they're usually pretty short.

The classics just go on and on and on and on. This is how TBC make their moolah, expanding to the SBCG4AP game is probably the first step in actually making some big big money off H*R without it just being off merch in the store. In other words, the first step towards the realization that it can't go on forever as their job if they don't make sure they're covered.

So they have sold out a wittle bit maybe. But that means they probably DON'T want to stop making the toons. Originally they didn't plan to use the series as their career, but it took off and now they probably realize the popularity has waned a bit and will probably eventually fade.

But I really think you can expect H*R toons for another 5-10 years at least. If anything they won't stop unless creatively it begins to bore them.

I also think the last toon will definitely NOT have any real resolution.

The show ends when they're old enough to retire or when one of TBC dies. Especially Matt would be hard to replace. He voices nearly all of the characters!
It doesn't seem they'll quit for any other reason anytime soon. It's their bread and butter, and it seems like something they both really enjoy doing.

...Oh, and when popularity takes a nose dive. They'll probably want to continue, but it's stopped putting bread on the table. So they'll start working for the man again, so they'll have less time for Homestar,...

haha, that's hilarious

sounds exactly how sb would do it, too...

but back on topic, yeah, they'll definitely do it for atleast another 10 or 15 years. who knows, they might even realize the money in TV and invest in that.

If even one of the brothers is unable to continue his part, it will end. They won't be able to afford a professional voice actor who can immitate all the voices spot-on & the other will be picky about how spot-on the replacement animator would be in movement, shading, coloring, design, & of course the script.

There's also the possibility that they will become bored & move on to something else for a living.

Or, they could do that anyway, and it could be like Tom Nook's store in Animal Crossing!

lol, I wasn't being 100% serious, but I'd like to see a Bubs superstore, either in WALMART style, or in Harrods' style.
For those who don't know what Harrods is, it is a VEEEEEEEERY fancy shop in London.

They probably won't end it with anything relating to continuity. If they end it with a finale of sorts, I would expect it to be typical H*R humor, with a small but very limited amount of sappiness involved. Though it's also possible it ends suddenly. Or worst case scenario, it just starts sucking and fizzles. Blah.

Or maybe it'll end so that they can work on a TV show! 3 7-minute shorts in each episode will make us all bow down to those old men! Of course, when they are old men, It's dot com and JoeyDay will be old men and I can laugh at them, too!

There is a huge battle.

I think that SBCG4AP is already ushering in some sort of finale. Just look at what happened to Maddox's site (maddox.xmission.com) when he released his book. Updates pretty much stopped because he was too involved in other projects. Considering the popularity of SBCG4AP and (obviously) monetary benefits, it seems to me that the game will not stop at just one season. With the game taking up much of The Brothers Chaps' time, the site becomes secondary priority. If the game explodes, we can stop going to homestarrunner.com on Mondays, because we already know nothing new will be there. Aside from Most In The Graveyard and SBEmail 200, what else has gone down since the game was announced? I think that slowly the brothers will shift their talent from just homestarrunner.com, and we will have other mediums to enjoy their universe.

Well, the game was 1st announced in April, and since then, we've also gotten 2 Limozeen concerts, Homestar Gets Something Stuck in His Craw, specially marked, TGS 14, love poems, Play Date, Baloneyman, hiding, being mean, Page Load Error, and Costume Commercial.

I would totally freak out in a bad way if they added in a plot to end the series. The most that's ever happened over the last few years is SB switching computers and Marzi breaking up with Homestar (and then getting back together again, presumably). And that's just the way I like it.
