I just did the commentary (I loaded up the actual commentary file, testChild.swf, and used that so I could pause and stuff), but I've hit two problems:
- 1. The commentary doesn't always sync at the same time with the video. It depends on when you click the link, and how long it takes to download.
- 2. The song loads the commentary using a relative url, so I'd have to upload the commentary to my host (I can't make HTTP redirects, because of dodginess involving the ad banners - same thing that breaks the commentary on IE)

Actually, maybe I could do something involving <base href="">... I'll give it a go. This would probably save me from having to make toons.html and stuff...
I'll give it a go.

[edit] TOTPD :eekdance:

OK, lotsa stuff to put in this post.
http://phlip.websiteallies.com/?src=answer9 from Rainer
http://phlip.websiteallies.com/?src=expfilm.commentary from me - note that you have to click the hidden button just before the song starts, if it takes a while to load and starts late refresh the page and hopefully it'll be in your cache next time. Otherwise the words and the subtitles will be out of sync.

Also, I've made a couple of changes to the setup. First off, I've set up the <base href="http://www.homestarrunner.com/"> on the page. This means that:
(1) Experimental Film can load its commentary from the main site
(2) "Back" links should now work properly, taking you to the appropriate page on homestarrunner.com
(3) You don't have to put the homstarrunner.com bit in the url when you write the subtitles files.

Plus, I finally solved the caching problem on IE, using the same trick TBC used for the quote of the day. Add a random number to the URL in such a way that the cache thinks its a different file but the server will load the same file. (http://phlip.websiteallies.com/subtitle ... e=0.157285 or something like that)

Lastly, I'm in the process of writing a complete filespec document, and I'll tell you guys when it's done.
[edit]
It's done, but it's not very readable for the computer-illiterate (I have never been very good at that... sorry)

Hmm, subtitles.
"Hmm, subtitles."

Weird.
"Weird."

I've never had words just appear under me before.

This is hurting my brain.

Update about what I'm doing!

Ok I'm almost done with The Cheat Theme Song. I am also working on a very big project related to the subtitles which I plan on showing Phlip very soon.

Also, when you go to http://phlip.websiteallies.com/ they're all in catagories, since the list is getting longer... Thanks go to Slaughter for that idea.

Whoa, man. Yous guys are awexome. You ought to try to pitch that idea toward TBC, and see what they do.

I'm 93% done with the cheat theme song. I just need to fine tune a few bits. After that I may do a Strong Bad Email.

1. Scroll up and read my posts - I explained already
2. Scroll up and read my posts - I know this already, and don't know how to fix it. It works locally (I have a mirror of both H*R and the subtitles on my computer, and when I use that the seek bar works perfect).

These are awesome. Whenever I show me parents anything H*R related, they say they can't really understand what the people are saying with their messed up voices. Now, I don't have that problem.

I'm sorry to bump, but I noticed a mistake. When Strong Sad( ) is writing the letter in the Strong Bad ( :sb: ) is in Jail Cartoon, the last line - ("Your computer room is now my tai chi space"), "tai chi space" is not included in the writing of the letter, so it should be shown on the subtitles. But it isn't...

Anyway, it's a great idea. Next mission: Subtitled Bonus Stage! ;)

For those of you who care about this, Subtitles are now on the wiki.

Check 'em out!

I strongly suggest downloading the All-in-One script (if you can).

The main thing with the wiki is now you can easily write your own subtitles now. But before you do, please make sure you read and understand all the rules.

Is this a different All-in-One script? Because I remember getting one a few months ago, but without the subtitles.

It's a new version of it. You have to uninstall and then reinstall it to get the subtitles. The interface allows you to...

1. Turn subtitles on and off.
2. Choose the language. (Currently there are English, Hebrew, German, Spanish and French, but every non-English language is very limited in toon selection)
3. Show sound effect captions.
4. Use colors or names to differenciate characters, and choose to have the names on voiceovers or not.
