By now, all true homestarrunner fans will have seen the new toon, A Decemberween Mackeral. Now, the last toon (if you could call it that) was Xeriously Forxe. That was in April. Now, in December, we get a new toon. Are they back, or did they just get bored one day and decide to make a little toon?

I'd like to think they're back, but we won't know for a while. It is Decemberween time, so they might be busy for a while. However, I'm crossing my fingers that they're back!

Last week, I still had a feeling that the cartoon was a one-time thing, and we'd see them again in nine months. But finding out that Which Ween Costumes? came out brought me a lot more confidence that this could be the return. Still not entirely sure, though. If we see another Toon next week (or hey, even within the next month - after all, Christmas is only a couple days away), I'll be positive that they're back, and hopefully won't have my hopes and dreams crushed with a Heavy Lourde.

So what happened to our big plans? We were going to tweet & reddit & digg the hell out of the next upload so all the world would know.

Too early to say for sure. After all, they did release that main page with Xeriously Forxe. I really do hope they're back though.

Exactly what I'm thinking. If we have one more update in the next few weeks, I'm going to go ahead and dance around the house singing, "They're back! They're back! They're back!"

While I think the hiatus is over, I'm really not sure. I say give them their holidays, and we'll see what will happen in late January.

It's possible they did a Christmas thing because they all had the holidays off and were all at home, together, for Christmas. Maybe it isn't over. :(

I don't think "hiatus" versus "back" is the right frame for looking at things...

I think this is just the new normal.

The Brothers will do a toon or something every now and again. Mostly on holidays. Two-three-four times a year.

I think that's just what Homestar Runner is now.

There are hundreds of toons on the site that represent a remarkable creative flourishing. Enjoy them! But I wouldn't expect it to ever be 2006 again.

As sad as it is, this could possibly be it. It's depressing, I know, but think about it. It's a cartoon. Good memories and lots of laughs, and you may dread it, but it's not going to be normal ever again probably.

Actually, I wouldn't mind, if they don't go back into regular updates, having a toon or two every month or two months. Just as long as they don't do just two toons per year.

It might be similar to what the Angry Video Game Nerd did. He used to do a review every other week, now he does them once a month.

Yeah that's a bummer if this is the new norm. They didn't even bother to do Halloween this year. The thing they did to make up for it was cool, except now I think they were slightly mocking the fans for presuming it was something they do as tradition. "ITS WHAT WE DO!" has some hostility/mockery in it's tone.

Now, that being said. If this is how it is now. The site is pretty much over for me anyway. I guess it was fun while it lasted. But 3-4 updates a year is lame. It's looking like they are not back, this is just how it is now. And it sucks.

I don't know if this counts as an update, but check out this topic! viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16607&p=808908#p808908

Strong Bad is on the new Aquabats album, and Puppet Strong Bad made an appearance at their last show! The link to the video is on that thread.

I'm a long time lurker on the board but just had to post.

I point this out with respect...but...."Hostility"? Seriously? It was a joke. That IS what they do. They comment on the ridiculous. They've (the creators) been busy with other things so they made a joke about it. That's all.

Look, I'm not going to make the argument that "it's just a cartoon...so relax".... but the facts are simple. Traffic on the site is way down and it was down long before they stopped doing weekly updates. They are two creative and funny guys that are spending more of their talents looking for other work. If you look at the big picture and examine the kinds of things they make jokes about on the site (people taking pop-culture too seriously...i.e. Strong Sad, people behaving selfishly i.e Strong Bad, et.) then that gives you your answer about "why didn't they let the fans know they were slowing down on updates?". It's not in their nature...their comedy is based around mocking convention. A bunch of (and I say this as one of the bunch) nerds and geeks whine (Strong Sad style) about not getting updates on a FREE site? Sorry. We don't get the prize this time.

I'm not telling anyone what to do but please try to understand the artists you enjoy. The fact is they churned out hundreds of hours of entertainment FOR FREE. Let me write that again. FOR FREE. FREEEEEE. FREE FREE FREE. You can claim buying a calendar or t-shirt gives you the right to be upset with them but it doesn't. It gives you the right to be upset at the manufacturer of the t-shirt if it's torn when it arrives. If you're angry with them...then you're angry with the type of humor they espouse.

I love that darn website and check it weekly. I also understand the nature of the comedy I'm watching. Post modern social commentary. The fact that they didn't give us (as fans) a "heads up" is right in line with the sites overarching narrative. Strong Bad would never tell people he was busy with other things...he's too cool/cruel for that. I know that the Chaps aren't "Strong Bad"...but if they drop the fourth wall to tell us "sorry guys"...it weakens them and their ability to keep us enjoying the characters they created.

Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes is a perfect example of the same thing...it wasn't about him... it was about what he CREATED.

In closing... I hope it doesn't seem like I'm shaking a finger. I've been mad sometimes at the site. I always want more cake and I want to know why the cake is stopped when it's stopped. But beggars at the table can't be choosers. We are free to consume the material...but they've got to do what they've got to do.

Sure, it's what they do, but it's not what they're SUPPOSED to do. When traffic on the site goes way up, you don't stop making cartoons. Everybody knows that we'll polish through those cartoons like the King Of Town through a whole ham, waiting for more. This is only the beginning of Homestar Runner! They have so many opportunities for millions of fans, but they don't post anything! Homestarrunner.com without any new 'toons is like a day without sunshine. Besides, I know they'd make a comeback. It's hard not to make new 'toons when the 'site is as popular as it is now. We have SBCG4AP to pass the time until sbemail 206, however. The reason they recently made that game series was probably to end the site, but like all fans know, the site is too popular for them to stop! There's barely any content on the website to last us fans a day and they haven't even been doing it for that long. Despite all this, this is just a time to wait until summer when TBC make the huge comeback. I beat a Homestar Runner movie would sell very well, and they could become rich, unlike anyone else who's made flash cartoons! There's no good flash cartoons on the internet, anyway. They're coming back. That's what they do. Like homestar said in the latest cartoon, "It's what we do." Hold on. I have to go. My brother is watching "Everybody To The Limit".

I remember that a mod posted that he/she wasn't allowed to spill the beans, but could only say that the Chaps themselves said it wasn't over.

Yeah, like a year ago. I think it's another instance of the chaps saying something they didn't entirely mean. Oh I mean to say they meant it when they said it, but then they never followed up on it. They're probably telling themselves they'll return "soon." Soon just getting further and further away as time goes on.

Man, this is just as annoying as wondering if there will ever be a 4th season of Sam & Max, as TellTale releases more & more new game series & S&M slowly sinks to the bottom of the forum list. But which is worse; not knowing what the future of a series will be because the creators are keeping to themselves, or the one where the creator won't tell you the future & keeps teasing you with the idea of trying to release old unfinished things still under another company's copyright?

ahorseinasuit - Bill Watterson, Gary Larson... god bless their artistic integrity, but I miss them all the time and think the world is worse off without their continuing efforts in some way.

And this site, unfortunately, grew old, grew up and got a job. :-(

I sure hope so. I have the heart of a champion and all, but I dunno if I could take it if they off and left again. :hr: I'm so looking forward to the Halloween toon!
