I'm a long time lurker on the board but just had to post.
I point this out with respect...but...."Hostility"? Seriously? It was a joke. That IS what they do. They comment on the ridiculous. They've (the creators) been busy with other things so they made a joke about it. That's all.
Look, I'm not going to make the argument that "it's just a cartoon...so relax".... but the facts are simple. Traffic on the site is way down and it was down long before they stopped doing weekly updates. They are two creative and funny guys that are spending more of their talents looking for other work. If you look at the big picture and examine the kinds of things they make jokes about on the site (people taking pop-culture too seriously...i.e. Strong Sad, people behaving selfishly i.e Strong Bad, et.) then that gives you your answer about "why didn't they let the fans know they were slowing down on updates?". It's not in their nature...their comedy is based around mocking convention. A bunch of (and I say this as one of the bunch) nerds and geeks whine (Strong Sad style) about not getting updates on a FREE site? Sorry. We don't get the prize this time.
I'm not telling anyone what to do but please try to understand the artists you enjoy. The fact is they churned out hundreds of hours of entertainment FOR FREE. Let me write that again. FOR FREE. FREEEEEE. FREE FREE FREE. You can claim buying a calendar or t-shirt gives you the right to be upset with them but it doesn't. It gives you the right to be upset at the manufacturer of the t-shirt if it's torn when it arrives. If you're angry with them...then you're angry with the type of humor they espouse.
I love that darn website and check it weekly. I also understand the nature of the comedy I'm watching. Post modern social commentary. The fact that they didn't give us (as fans) a "heads up" is right in line with the sites overarching narrative. Strong Bad would never tell people he was busy with other things...he's too cool/cruel for that. I know that the Chaps aren't "Strong Bad"...but if they drop the fourth wall to tell us "sorry guys"...it weakens them and their ability to keep us enjoying the characters they created.
Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes is a perfect example of the same thing...it wasn't about him... it was about what he CREATED.
In closing... I hope it doesn't seem like I'm shaking a finger. I've been mad sometimes at the site. I always want more cake and I want to know why the cake is stopped when it's stopped. But beggars at the table can't be choosers. We are free to consume the material...but they've got to do what they've got to do.

Sure, it's what they do, but it's not what they're SUPPOSED to do. When traffic on the site goes way up, you don't stop making cartoons. Everybody knows that we'll polish through those cartoons like the King Of Town through a whole ham, waiting for more. This is only the beginning of Homestar Runner! They have so many opportunities for millions of fans, but they don't post anything! Homestarrunner.com without any new 'toons is like a day without sunshine. Besides, I know they'd make a comeback. It's hard not to make new 'toons when the 'site is as popular as it is now. We have SBCG4AP to pass the time until sbemail 206, however. The reason they recently made that game series was probably to end the site, but like all fans know, the site is too popular for them to stop! There's barely any content on the website to last us fans a day and they haven't even been doing it for that long. Despite all this, this is just a time to wait until summer when TBC make the huge comeback. I beat a Homestar Runner movie would sell very well, and they could become rich, unlike anyone else who's made flash cartoons! There's no good flash cartoons on the internet, anyway. They're coming back. That's what they do. Like homestar said in the latest cartoon, "It's what we do." Hold on. I have to go. My brother is watching "Everybody To The Limit".
