When TBC update the newbutton flash file that appears on every main page, the latest message has always appears first in the sequence. That is, until today. A button with "hey, a new toon!" appears first and "new toon soon!" appears last in the sequence. I grant you that this message is probably valid and there may be a new toon forthcoming, but I don't think we've ever encounted a similar situation before. I have archived nearly every change to this button since June 30, 2004.
Of course I am not fully aware of their procedure. Perhaps when they decide to release two toons back-to-back they put newer messages behind older messages? That just seems odd to me. Your thoughts?

If it were up to me, I would put the new toon message first, then change Cool Thing's button to "Last week's toon."

I think they messed up, either because they were neglectful or in haste.

I hope it's a Powered by The Cheat or Cheat Commandos.

I hope it's a new toon as well. I just thought it so strange at first that I had to at least remove it from the what's new template for safety - I really don't like to spread false rumors. Well, I notice my edit stayed active for less than six minutes, so I don't think too many are confused at this point. Although I notice I am not the only one who removed BazookaJoe's update at first (see here and here).

Perhaps we'll get a Tuesday update this week. That's fine by me, so long as we get an update. It is weird that they'd put the "New toon soon" button after the "Hey, a new toon!" button though. I agree with BazookaJoe, they should change the button to say "Last week's toon" when they do add the new toon.

The new toon soon buttons don't always deserve to be the first thing because they're not significant. It's just saying to the fans "keep your pants on, we're working on an update." It makes sense to keep a featured toon the first thing on the whatsnew bubble for people who haven't yet seen it.

[Not-so-obligatory wikilink] Now that the toon is out, we can finally put to rest the question of if there was going to be a new toon. But we still can only speculate as to why it was positioned far back. I will agree with porplemontage in that those "XX soon" messages shouldn't take precedent over actual 'clickable' buttons. TBC aptly named the second-newest button "cool things" instead of what we thought might be labeled "last week's toon".
