This bandwidth issue is a huge problem. The entire future of the wiki is depending on more bandwidth. If we don't do something now, this wiki will be useless, only being up the first few hours of the month. Maybe I'm over reacting, but I LOVES MY WIKEH! I think we should have an emergency funding drive to be able to up the bandwidth just enough each month. Anybody else have ideas?

Well, the thing is, we probably do have to move to a better server, but that means that people need to donate. It's no use for people to say that something needs to be done and then go and do nothing about it. If you want to help, then donate. It doesn't have to be a lot, anything will help.

Like stated in earlier post by mnay other people, if you do't want that to happen again, then please donate so we can get a better server.

Emergency funding drive. I'll be watching for your donation, JelloB.

Um.. so mail Joey Day money. His address is on the donations page. Probalo solved.

Look, folks, we're working on it. The best thing you can do now is donate money or just wait patiently. Either one is fine with us. But we know there's a problem and we're taking steps to solve it, so grousing about it isn't going to accomplish anything.

I would but I don't trust the Postal Service, maybe when I get a credit card, I donate.

*bangs head*

You could just say "I don't feel like donating right now." It's just as easy, more honest, and a valid answer.

We might make you wash the dishes, though.

P.S. *cough*Money Order*cough*

First few hours of the month?!? Your hours must be longer than mine, cus it's usually up the first few weeks of the month for me.. Are you travelling at close to the speed of light?

Yeah, you are. It's a free service. FREE! You pay nothing, so it's not like you can really complain, unless, of course, you made a donation, then you can complain away. Well, ok, so you can't complain away, but I guess you have a right to be disgruntled or something.

You know, the admins are being nice about this, they could hold a funding drive and be all PBS about it (eg, the forum is up for an hour, then down for two until they meet their funding goal).. <Begins praying that never happens, and gets out checkbook at same time>

Donation made. And I'm freakin' poor. So if I can afford it, you can too.

Booya.

Well, that first sentence was a continuation of the OLD subject line.X-( It's just one sentence, it's not like I spent the entire post saying that.

I'm not grousing, I'm trying to come up with ideas, and encouraging others to do the same. Right now the best idea would be to donate. I'm scrounging up money as we speak.

No, I'm saying that this WILL happen if we don't do anything, not that it is. Huge difference.

I'm not complaining, I'm trying to do something about it!

Really, I'm not a bad person. I'm not trying to force you to do anything, I'm just stating the facts and trying to make people do something about it.

Just so you can't say

'Tis a'ight, dawg. 'Tis a'ight.

Are we upgrading to more bandwidth this month, or is it still gonna cost us $50 or so a month? I ask cus I'm-a mail a payment for one month sometime next week.

It's not so much a matter of "buying" more bandwidth. If that was the case, we would be all over it. Our host is simply limited to the bandwidth we are using (actually, he is waiting longer then he probably should when it comes to shutting us down.

You have to understand that we (the management) are concerned about this problem. But you also need to understand that we all have limited resources (time, money, etc...) that we can devote here. (for instance... the server that we are looking at that can handle our load, both bandwidth and server specs is going to cost more then 4 times what we are currently paying).

We are looking at all our options before we move. But for the moment you guys are just going to have to be patient with us. Please :)

(actually, you don't have to be patient, but I also don't have to like you!)

wow... 4 times.. I think I'd rather take a 509 for a week or so than pay that much more. While I understand that we can't just "buy more bandwidth", I thought it would be as simple "upgrading our hosting plan", didn't think it'd involve a whole new server and a 300% price increase. Wow...

if we were in IRC, I'd type: /me is being very patient now that he knows that...
Then, I'd probably type something about the underwear cannon of doom, version 4.23beta.. Yeah, I'm weird like that.
I'll still donate anyway. I mean, if nothing else, JoeyDay can split my donation up among the management for Pizzas..

Unless your name is Mike or Matt Chapman, you may wish to reconsider your order to cease. As far as I can tell, that is an image taken from homestarrunner.com, cropped, and then hosted on his own personal webspace.

If I am wrong, then I apologize. If not, quit your whining.

Have you considered Verio?

They have a $49.95/month plan on a fast server with unlimited bandwidth. (Verio is part of NTT Communications, which is the world’s largest telecommunications company; it's unlikely that you could find a faster, more reliable hosting company, and you can't beat the price.)

Verio, eh? It doesn't sound oo bad. but will it be able to host the Wiki, this forum and the Fansuff Wiki all at the same time? Because that seems like a lot of stress to put on a server.

I was wondering about that too. Can one server handle all three?
