This thread is to discuss ideas for what we should with the new hr.net domain. I think it should just serve as a redirect to the forum since that's what the site was originally for. I'm the rest of you can think up something more creative, though.

I was thinkign of making a thread for this, but anyways, maybe it should have some crazy flash cartoon that says "It's Dot Com!" a lot.

I kinda like the idea of it linking to the wiki. Mainly because someone watches the "First Time Here" toon and is all "hey, that can't be real, can it?" Then, they type it into their browser, and BOOM!, they land in the Encyclopedia Homestarica! Sure, there is a certain joy in actually watching the toons, but I would have loved to know there was a wiki when I was a Homestar noob.. Man, that was a long time ago..

I agree with StrongRad. I think that it is best the way it is.

I don't actually think it's best to leave it as a redirect, it's just that, out of all of the ideas I have right now, that one is the best choice.

Maybe it could redirect to the wiki after the toon that I'm thinking about, but sadly, I don't know anyone who can make it.

A thought: why not put a "regular" forum on there and use this one for the wiki only?

I dunno, this is a wiki forum, it's not just a Homestar Runner Fan Forum.

What would be the point of having two forums. Most things pretaining to the wiki go on the talk pages. Everything that isn't General discussion and WDP's are to talke about Homestar. Creating another forum would just make it wso a whole lot of people would go on without knowing about the main site.

Maybe someone could make a little short with Strong Bad going, "I can't believe you bothered to try this." and then buttons come up that can take you to the wiki, forum, fanstuff, and chat chanel.

Well, ths forum now is a sub domain of thw wiki. I'm not sure how exactly it will work of you decide to move this to a new, seperate domain

I think homestarrunner.net should be some kind of php engine cache. So, if you view the wiki from homestarrunner.net, it will be a few minutes outdated but the pages will load faster.

You mean the wiki? Then editting would have to be disabled for .net.

If possible, the edit links could be replaced with ones to the actual wiki.

i think the wiki should switch from the .org name to the .net name, and prety soon we could earn our way up to the .com name or even .gov!
lol :p

Naw, the URL would be too long.

http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Main_Page

http://www.homestarrunner.net/index.php/Main_Page

Plus I've kind of grown accustomed to the hrwiki.org domain, but you never know. And setting up a forum there would probably be a bit much.

That sounds like a good idea. I could help out with that. Ask anybody at the fanstuff.

That would be a great idea. I could do a SB voice, if I had a mic...and knew how to do flash....and if I knew other things. It would be cool if you had more than just Strong Bad saying anything. What is Homestar came in and said " See, I knew it was a website." or something less crappy than that.

But come on, we all know that it would come out crappy and unusable. This is hr.net we're talking about. We should probably just make a pretty page linking to fan sites and h*r updates and stuff.

Could make into a more traditional fansite, with fan-made downloads and stuff. Just make it tie in with HRwiki.

We already have the fanstuff wiki for that.

Yeah, which people have been planning to delete for some time now. Plus, it's hardly user-friendly the way its laid out is it?

what do you mean? we could find a free forum service and host it through that website. or we could just make it into a Hrwiki Secret Page, or something.

No matter what we do, we're going to get people who assume we're run by TBC just because of the dot net name.

The point is, there's no need for two seperate forums.

Maybe we could give it to TBC, or someone could email them asking for the flash intro someone mentioned.

What, the fanstuff wiki?

I highly doubt anyone's been planning to delete the Fanstuff Wiki.

I actually don't know what to do with the domain name. It's nice to have, but I think what we do now (lead it to the wiki) is a good idea. But perhaps we should create a seperate "Welcome" page to link .net to, since we can't leave the disclaimer on the main page forever.

I don't know if you realized this or not, but we are a .org for a reason. I am sure we could have gotten hrwiki.com (it may still be out there for all I know). However, we wanted .org to show that we had absolutely no intentions of stepping on tbc's feet.

.com implies that we are a company (and potentially taking their business). Since we make no money off the wiki, except that which goes back into it immediately, we felt that .org was more appropriate.

:D

I seem to remember a poll with that reason never given. All we had were the admins hinting to pick .org.

Of cource, it was pretty much just the admins back then.
