I have a big problem with this statement.

Please do not talk about what .NET was unless you really know what you are talking about.

I was on .net, and I did see some cussing.

Whohohoho... slow down. Flash? Why in the world would we need ANY kind of Flash cartoon accompanying this portal? Pointless is what it would be. A list of links is fine.

Here's my idea:

Do the portal thing (like with the links). Basic design, nothing too million-dollar-website-ish. Program it in something like PHP or ASP, so people can SUBMIT their own links to the portal, and it can be approved by some kind of moderator of the website, and added to the list automatically. There'll be a list on the front page of this portal of the most successful websites on the list - the Wiki being first, of course.

For an intro, and maybe interactivity.

I REALLY want that portal/my/blog thing.It would just be a great thing to do. How come nobody else wants it?

As has already been said above, we'd like to create as little home-grown code as possible. There are open source content management systems already created that would give us the ability to do exactly what you've suggested. I'm seriously looking into Drupal, but we may consider other alternatives.

Er... why in the world should Homesstarrunner.net host userblogs/blogs of any sort?

Oh, THAT's what he means? Yeah, no. That makes no sense. It's homestarrunner.net, not blogspot.

It won't host user blogs, but it might host some sort of blog where site owners will be able to post updates for their sites. I think that's what Jello B. was talking about.

But its STILL homestarrunner.net. Why would we have links to other people's random sites?

Click here for the Wiki
Click here for the Forum
Click here for the Fanstuff Wiki

Now there's some random links!
<link>
<link>
<link>
<link>
...

Like that?

Are the links only to homestar-related stuff? Cause that makes more sense to me.

Check out this site: Iowa State Entomology Index. Obviously our subject matter will be way different, and chances are the layout and color scheme would be radically different as well, but the organization of the directory could be much the same (though our directory will no doubt be much smaller than this one).

The Entymology Index uses Drupal, so this serves mostly as proof of concept (If we choose to go with Drupal) and as a springboard for ideas on how we could organize our site.

Cool! But I don't understand any of the words on that website. It look scientific and educational, though. I guess that's good.

I think the portal idea is really good. Most new people watching the First Time Here? toon would try out homestarrunner.net, and instead of finding some mysterious "artwork", they get a whole portal full of fan sites.

Did anyone else notice the easter egg at homestarrunner.net (click on "pants")?

I was only saying why I thought it was why it was a good idea, it wasn't like I was pointing anything out to other people, or "establishing" anything.

Sorry, I didn't know that that had already been posted (I only skimmed over the previous posts).

Dang! In just a week! I have beat it a couple of times before, but I have trouble with a couple of events. 10 more to go... in this save file.

I sorta like the portal thing too, but the wiki link seems kinda dull.

Uh.. guys, I really think you should stay on the topic. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but I'm pretty sure that there's a Tomba thread out there somewhere.

Toastpaint.

Rainer - That's really cool. I didn't know there were any easter eggs. *gasp!* Maybe there's more! *goes to the website again*...
