People, I think we have completely ruled Flash out of the picture. If you think we would make this perfect Flash intro and it would impress TBC, we won't. We really don't want to make another forum either, even if Homestar Rules helps.

Tomba rocks!

Sweet! Another Tomba fan! I'm actually playing the game right now. Heh. Just need to get the motocross course gold medal.....and I get that fish from the 10,000 year old man...

hehe. Never gonna work Juju, never gonna work.

i've beat that game 100% in about a week. my favorite things were the wind gem and that other fish. the motocross was like the last thing i did.

Dang! In just a week! I have beat it a couple of times before, but I have trouble with a couple of events. 10 more to go... in this save file.

I sorta like the portal thing too, but the wiki link seems kinda dull.

i didnt even use the fish from 10,000 yr old man. i just dont like the looks. ive beaten the sequal but the original is much better.

Yeah, basically. Who here is really good with Flash? Jenny maybe? There's not all too many. Plus we would need people that can do the voices really well too. It'd possible, but not probable.

well just tell me one thing... is it possible to make the site a portal first without any sort of flash thing, then in the RARE, IMPROBABLE event that somebody dishes out a QUALITY flash, can that be added as an easter egg* after the site is made? that is possible right?

*my reasoning for arguing for a flash easter egg: there are so many portals out there, it would give people a reason to actually look around the page and would make the site more unique. this is why i'm holding out on this topic, despite everyone saying "we absolutely aren't doing flash, we've ruled it out, flash just isn't good." how many of the homestar fan sites have a flash easter egg? none that i know of. they are probably too afraid of the horrible results of poor flashmanship just like you guys (again i don't blame ya for that fear!) i just know that i would be a pretty happy person if i was new to homestar runner and discovered a neat little movie hidden in an otherwise normal looking portal site. it adds to the flavor, the atmosphere. it gives people a reason to go there even if they normally don't do fan sites.

i think we should find out if there is someone out there who would like to make a flash because there seem to be some other people that have posted in here who were in favor of flash, and i am sure there are others in the h*r wiki who might want a shot at it. you could very well be right, ramrod. maybe i'm the only one on here who is even interested in doing something like that. but you don't know till you ask.

if the resulting animation is bad, tell the maker to stick it on fanstuff and we all move on with no loss but to the animator who knew they were taking that chance. if anything, i would think the possibility of not using their flash would get people to try their best to make a good one.

this is all assuming that you can add the flash after you make the site so that you aren't waiting around on that to complete it, and that it doesn't interfere with the overall plans for the portal thing. and hopefully there are other prospective animators out there.

come to think of it, this would end up being more of a side project. its probly worthy of a seperate thread here, but i'm not that forum savvy so i am not sure.

i'm sorry if i seem to be just clinging onto this idea for dear life, but there it is. i will cease my crusading/ranting now.

No more tomba talk... keep on topic (and especially no more insane long quotes. You'll crash the thread)

You got to have flash talking about a flash website. I mean, flex shows the compatibility of flash all over! We don't want to create just a website, we want to show our passion, and take root in it.

Flash all the way!!!
I know i seem stupid just because i have two posts, but i have done some pretty good stuff.

Gotta Have Flash Player 8. That's my sorta first try, if you will?

I think that this is a great opurtunity for the Fanstuff Wiki.

Recently, I've noticed a decline in the quality of submissions on the site. I think that the Fanstuff Wiki should be moved/redirected to here, but not the whole thing. I think that the format should change so that it's more of a parody/nod to/tribute/style of the Homestar Runner site, but not like a direct copy.

For example, the main page will contain buttons linking to Fan-Fic, Media, Video Games, etc., and the directories for that might be, for example, like the toons TV Guide menu, or the email screen selection menu. The pages could then remain mostly as is, in the same format, like text, picture, etc.

However, not everything should be moved onto the site. There should be a selection process only taking high-quality work, and the things on the site should go through a selection process to mantain a higher standard.

its nice to hear enthusiasm, but like they have been saying, adding large quantities of flash everywhere makes or breaks a website... in this case probably breaks. it is better in my opinion to have a single hidden flash that is mediocre than a whole flash filled website (which also for ppl with dial up would basically kill the functionality of a portal site) that is probably gonna be really glitchy what with the cold hard fact that none of us here is nearly as good as TBC... as was also said earlier. remember.. i think it has sorta been decided to make it a portal site so... the main site can't be complex and loaded with junk that takes forever to load.

Unless thisb is what you mean, it'd be cool to get some of the best stuff from the fanstuff wiki and put it on .net as a feature. A portal is just the starting point for what I think we all hope will be something bigger.

Oh, ok, then that;s a good idea. We should ask Super Sam if we can put the imitation sbemails there, if this idea gets through.

Exactly! The original is much better, but they're both awesome. Heh. The fish only let's you use animal dash, and turn black and white forever. Waste of time. You can just hold quare...

Anyway, we could do the fanstuff wiki thing, but it's kinda dumb having 2 sites linking to the same stuff...

Well, this would be the best of the best, and it wouldn't be freely editable.

No fanstuff wiki. No one wants to type in "homestarrunner.net" and see a crappy fansite with cheap imitations. Especially not TBC. Keep in mind this is coming from a sysop there.

No, that's not what we're saying. it'd still have the portal, and other stuff. There'd just be a small section for good fan things, some from the fanstuff.

I say we donate it to the citizens of New Orleans! (haha)

<serious>
I think we should just redirect it to the wiki... that way when people check for homestarrunner.net they find this awesome source of info :D

That's how it was before, and we already agreed on having a portal.

Well, just for some design ideas, JK Rowling's website is very well-designed and interesting. We should definitely make it quite good. Sorry to be so inane! ;)

It's me. Hi guys. You can listen to the sample thing here (I'll probably end up doing a better one later when I'm a bit less tired):

http://thehappythrix.com/audio/sbnerd.mp3

Note: Sounds better under horrible Flash MP3 compression.

I like Jenny's idea. We want more than just an ordinary portal. We need something interesting or unique. We don't want people to get bored after 2 minutes, or not want to go to .net because it's, well, boring. Know what I mean? That's just my two cents. Or one cent. Either one really.

There's no flash on this site, and yet you keep coming back. Why? It's because you can interact with this site by posting and you feel part of a community here. I can guarantee you the new site will be interactive and provide a community feeling. You'll want to come back even if there's no flash. Trust me.

As for the easter egg idea, I'm for it. Afterall, there are easter eggs all over the current splash page. What I'm not for is a cheap knock-off of TBC's work. If we can find some way to do this easter egg thing right, you can bet I'll be the first one on the gravy train.

I didn't necessarily say there's should be flash on .net. I just said that the site needs to be interesting enough to keep people, well, interested. But I agree with you whole-heartedly. If all we had was flash on there, most likely it would be like what you said, a cheap knock-off of TBC's work. And people wouldn't want to keep coming back tot he site just for a flash. I really like the idea of an easter egg or two.
That's all I've got for now.

That was really good, and pretty funny if you ask me.

"eat peanut brittle..."

If we can get that to work, that'd be great!
