Joey, if you thinking of doing a portal thing .rules has a rss feed and any other phpBB board could make a .rss feed easily for the latest 5 posts.

In an attempt to get more discussion going, I've cross-posted this on usshomestarrunner.com and hsrforum.com. As soon as my user registration is approved I also plan to cross-post this at the already existing thread at the Burning Horizon Forum.

To keep you guys in the know, there's also a topic at homestarrules.com.

EDIT: This has now been cross-posted on StrongFans.com as well. Still waiting on my forum registration over at Burning Horizon, but I think this covers all the majors. If anyone thinks I've left someone out, please speak up. Thanks.

I dont think it should bring you to the wiki because noobs that see it will just be like "Hey! I got a cool idea!" then when they see this theyll be like "oh, thats not funny.."

I really like the idea of it linking to a page of Fansites. Not too complex. Keep it simple, maybe a top ten or something.

The Wiki at the top, just because it has the most comprehensive info about Homestarrunner.com.

Then a bunch of other ones here, strongfans, our forum ect, in no particular order.

And maybe the fanstuff wiki somewhere too.

What would be ultimately cool, is if we could contact TBC with the idea, and see if they'd be willing to make a short intro to it for us. We know they like some forums, from their special Videlectrix.com message they left for a forum. And they even used to have their own forum, until it got overrrun.

Anyways, that's my idea.

Joey, are we talking about all fansites here, or just fan-forums?

Either way I don't think it would be fair of us to choose a top 10. I think any site which is active (and we could come up with an objective definition of "active") should be eligible to have a presence.

Well we would have to do at least one fansite. The Wiki. We can't do this without the wiki! But yea, that might open the floodgates. That's why I think just a top 10 or 15 or so would be good. Sites that are regularly updated, have more than a five person membership, ect. I think we could get some guidelines to narrow it down to 10 or 15.

Everyone would be welcome. I can't imagine excluding great static sites like the Aich-Star-Arr Compendium and many others. I agree 100% with what you said above about every active site being eligible to have a presence.

I'm not sure why we would need to pare it down to 10 or 15. Maybe the homepage would only show the top ten by number of members (with some kind of "more" link), but I think the goal should be having an exhaustive directory of every homestar related site out there, with some guidelines as Jones mentioned. And the whole thing would be managable so long as it's ranked (by number of users), re-sortable (perhaps alphabetically or by site age), and searchable.

Yeah, this is probably the best thing. Although it would be kind of hard to get EVERY SINGLE Homestar fansite up, but I think it can be done.

But yeah, we'll have to have about ten top sites (Wiki, H*Rules, BHZ, StrongFans...) up, and have the others on a "More" page.

4 pages... this is the biggest thread I've ever started. :)
I think the portal idea would be the best one. As for adding your own fansites, You would have to put up a reccomendation for it on some page and wait for a mod to verify it. I think that forums could have the five most recent post things to the side of the link as well as a blog type page for announcements and such.

I think the new site could be used for fan stuff by us, like if someone does a fanimation or fanart, we could post it there.

Wait - you do know we have a Fanstuff Wiki, right?

We already have the Fanstuff Wiki for that.

Actually, on second thought, I think that the main page should have a blog thing that any registered fansite can post in. On the left there should be links to pages that give an introduction to the various fansites, and on the right there could be a help/toolbox type thing.[/url]

I think we should either elocate the Wiki, the Forum or the Fanstuff there. I know if we did a big flashy Flash project it would never be updated or it would just end up being cheesy. Maybe it could be the new home of a Homestarrunner based webcomic or something, but I really think the first 3 options I presented were the best ones.

And there should be categories, so you could just check out forums, or just fan sites, or just info sites, and stuff like that. You could also link to soem ofg the best fanstuff things on newgrounds and stuff, wiht their permission.

New guy throwing an idea out there:

Why not make a flash wiki-type thing? Make it shaped like h*r.com, and have the same bottom links and stuff, but instead of toons, make it articles on each toon. Imagine a wiki with sounds and moving pictures and stuff! Interactive! Drive one home today!

I think the best solution is moving the Fanstuff there, but that's just me.

I think it would be good to do a gag on the domain concerning the "first time here?" movie and maybe put on some of the other ideas. I don't really care what you do with it just as long as you PUT SOME REFERENCE TO THE WELCOME SPEECH MOVIE!!!!!

This is gonna sound crazy, but what if we made a Powered by The Cheat website. Like the regular H*R.com, but with The Cheat animationing.

A portal with links to verious fan sites and forums is probably the best idea. We should probably add a window with recent updates to Homestar Runner. So it seems that we aren't playing favorites, we should just say
We recommend:
Various site
Various site

And so on.

A portal that not only links to h*r fan sites but also gives news and updates on the sites. Posts interesting articles found on the web about homestar and other such things. It can have interviews with key people in the h*r community. Maybe even some frendily compotitions with fan communities. What about awards for achevment, like a hall of fame for h*r stuff. Just some suggestions.

Yeah. This seems like a good idea. Links to all the major fansites and forums, along with the H*R.com updates would be the best idea.

A forum merger wouldn't be all that bad. Yeah, there'd be some adjusting, but it's kinds like a cellphone co. merger.
