Post subject:  The end of the wiki forum

I know it might now be the appropriate question for right now but, her goes.

How much longer do you think the wiki and the forum will last?
Will it stay until people slowly drop off until no posts any more?
Will it stay for as long as Homestar Runner is still updated?

It's a serious question, and I'd like you to be honest, how much longer are you planning on posting on this forum?
How long to forums last on average?

Think about it, because, as you know, nothing lasts forever.

I'm going to have to say anywhere between 3-6 years. I mean, if the cost for a new server keeps going up, it's going to cost too much soon. Also, I don't think Homestar would last forever, either. I'd say it would slowly die out in a few years from now(it would take longer for an update). I don't know, it's sortof weird to think about a thriving place dying out.

I said 1-5 years.
The new server does cost a lot of money.

I said 1 - 5 years. It's a nasty thought to think about. I'm planning on posting until the final death of the forum, though. And even if Homestar Runner ends, I think that the forum can still go on, because it's a place for people who like Homestar Runner to gather and talk about stuff.

I think the Wiki itself I think will probably last just as long as H*R if not longer (as long as the internet itself is still around), but this Forum... it's very hard to tell, really. The two other boards I most frequent got started around the 1999-2001 period and are still going as strong as they ever did, but you never know what can happen. I'm going to take a wild guess and say 6-8 years for this Forum as a whole before everyone either loses interest or it's unable to be run adequately, but hopefully I'm dead wrong on that.

Judging by my own posting experience on internet message boards, though, it might be earlier than that before my reading and posting here becomes less and less to the point I rarely even visit (like it is for me now at the Mike Portnoy Forum). But this community here is much less annoying and more consistently likeable to me than most places, so maybe the H*R Wiki Forum will be a lengthier exception to my rule. :)

I'd say about 6 more years.

I think once homestar is dead, the forum will overflow with memorials then mods will get on people for spamming and such, then everyone who is already bummed will get more bummed for getting on mods nerves so theyll just be like, screw that yo!

Anyways, I think it'll keep going strong until Homestar kicks the bucket.

I said 1-5 years. It's not a good thing to think about, but the new server costs quite a bit.

I'd hate to see this place go.

I think this forum will last for 1-5 more years. Hopefully, even if Homestar dies it can still continue for a little bit.

Something always happens that makes thigns die, but I think we have a good 2 years that thgis forum will still be active. Some older members will ahve left, but it'll still be here. It may even last for longer than H*R, as we talk abotu a lot of other stuff, too.

If this place ever dies, we'll keep it alive! On some free place! (although that might be worse than not having the wiki at all)

Umm... Guys?
You do know that the forum is hosted for free already, right?

The Wiki is the only one with the cost problems.

Theres always a chance homestar will become famous like disney and some company will just release it year after year. But for this forum, until Joey no longer wants to do it.

The forum is free, but it cost money for the server. You need a main site to host a forum on. The forum will use the main website's bandwith and server, and when that run out, they are both down.

I hope the forum lasts as long as it possibly can. Even after H*R is finished, we've all developed friendships that will last longer than the cartoon.

I'm sure that even when it eventually ends, I'll keep contact with a few of the friends I've made here. You people are awesome, and I bet this place lasts at least until 2010.

And if it doesn't, feel free to come to this post and laugh and laugh at me.

As if you didn't already...

That won't happen unless TBC decide to sell it to that company, which I honestly don't see happening. Certainly I don't want to see H*R going the way of Mickey Mouse*. As for the forum itself, it'll probably be around as long as there's interest in H*R, though maybe not always with the original crew

*if you look at the progression of Mickey Mouse from his origins to the present day, you'll find he has become more and more infant-like and sanitized. It's not pretty

It would be cool if the descendants of Mike and Matt and Missy did all the cartoons after.. you know... someone dies.

I disagree. It would be really, really weird if the descendents of Mike and Matt and Missy (and Jackie) carried on after any or all of the aforementioned had corpsed it. Though I recall that Jaz Coleman has proposed something similar to ensure the immortality of Killing Joke

Ah, the Internet. Everything happens faster here. Fads can come and go in a matter of weeks. Five years might not seem like a lot, but if we last that long we will have a crapload of memories, in-jokes, and friends. I'd say it's a nice healthy lifespan for a forum.

Seriously. I've only been coming here a little more than five months, but it really seems like a lot longer. It feels like so much has gone on within this community since I joined up, and I can't even imagine all we'd have behind us on this Forum in like 5-10 years, to say nothing of how much more comprehensive the Wiki would get than it already is!

In two years, absolutely no one will actually talk about the wiki on here.
Sadly enough, I can see that happening. It seems thgat this forum's growing a name for itself and less and less people come here because of the Wiki.

Anyone agree?

Yeah... I can't remember the last time I actually posted about a toon or anything like that, and my friend thinks it's weird that we're writing fanfics about each other and not H*R... Can't say I really disagree with that. But as much as this is less of a wiki forum and more of a community, the intent is still there. I mean, we all love Homestar Runner and that's the most important thing, right?

...We DO all love Homestar Runner, right?!

Everyone that's here is here because they love that no armed bald whitey. I know I still do, it's just that this forum has a mind of it's own now.
