If they really wanted to, I bet they could SELL H*R to some bigger company and make tons of money... imagine if Warner Bros. approached them with the proposition to make a Homestar Runner movie or a Peasant's Quest movie... a real one. They would want the rights (a million dollars alone I'm sure)... and if it were a H*R movie probably their voices (another million I'm sure) and also TBC would most certainly acquire a percentage of merchandising profits.

and so on...

I sincerely hope that TBC do not even consider about co-operating with some big corporation, let alone selling Homestar Runner away. Sure that'd give TBC a lot of money and resources but the originality and the unique taste of the serie would definitely be jeopardised as huge corporations naturally have more power and might want to alter the serie even if TBC didn't fully agree with their changes.
Why not expand the H*R team? It's not necessary to sell the whole thing away.

I've thought about this. I'm sure there would be some willing people out there to donate time to them. Heck, I'd be willing to volunteer weekends to help with stuff if they ever voiced the need for more Flashimators. It wouldn't necessarily cost anything to do so, but they would have to be careful to find people who would not flake out on them and leave them waiting for a necessary part of a toon or something. That would be the hard part.

I don't think they will sell out. I'm just saying that I bet they could if they wanted to. Personally, I'd be wary about ever letting go of something like that... selling it away would be like selling your soul. It's a part of you and who you are. Any corporation will milk H*R for all it's worth and destroy it. lol.

IMO.

I doubt TBC will sell out. Ever.

I agree! Yes I'm sure they are aware of the money...but I think they are more than aware of what would happen if they did it. It just wouldn't be Homestar anymore. It would ruin it and I think TBC are VERY smart by keeping it safe on the net and under their own control.

If they were going to they already would've had H*R as TV show. I remember reading an interview were they discussed this and they seemed very against selling out.

I’ve been lurking for a while and decided to register because I’m flabbergasted that no one has mentioned the obvious:

TBC have been making these cartoons for about six years now. The same group of characters, the same formats, the same relationships. Of course things have grown and changed a bit, and of course they’ve found ways to reinvent the characters with their various goings on. But 139 Strong Bad Emails? Good lord! That’s got to get old. Especially for very creative people like TBC. There’s got to be a strong urge to just move on and try and do something new.

Does my life revolve around homestarrunner? No. Do I think TBC are in big trouble and am deathly worried about them? No. And I hope I don’t get yelled at like everyone else on here commenting on the lack of updates.

All I’m saying is the “Soul Searching/Debating The Future” theory should be moved to the top of the list.

And I think second on the list should be that TBC have been captured by Palestinian militants and they’re being held hostage until the entire West Bank has been liberated, 10 million dollars have been put in their bank accounts, and Lindsay Lohan eats a sandwich.

I disagree. They have just released a DVD and have plans for another one very soon. They have given praise to the wiki and have even sent in support for it. These don't sound like the actions of people who were planning on quitting anytime soon.

I'm still banking on that they're just having an extended vacation. Still, with each passing day, it becomes curiouser and curiouser why they haven't left any notice at all.

I think they do, since Matt Chapman sent Joey a check for the Wiki. The thing is, that would be extremely rude to do that. It'd be best if they contacted us, not the other way around.

If only they would just update the bubble so we wouldn't have to worry about what's going on for pete's sake, geez.

By the way, i got the EVERYTHING ELSE DVD for christmas and i think the THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS version of EVERYBODY KNOWS IT is great. TROPICAL LAZOR BEAMS is still the best though.

The reason they didn't have their Decemberween cartoon in 2003 was because...Matt, I think, was getting married? Anniversary thing this year may have caused the delay, possibly?

I dunno, I got my Homestar fix off oldies but goldies. :P So they're takin' a holiday break, who can blame 'em? We're gonna get a new one on the 8th, I'm sure.

yeah, they're probably just chilling. like, y'know when you write a diary, and then dont write anything for a week or more. it's not that you're being held captive by the mafia or anything, you've just taken a break. maybe that's what's happened
or they've been kidnapped by.... the mafia!

Yeah. I’m saying the theory that I think should be at the top of the list is that they’re thinking about a complete new direction to take the site or pursue a different project.

I know you say they’ve been supportive of the site and have plans for the future, but the feeling of being trapped can really come on all the sudden. It’s happened to me plenty of times.

I think this could almost be just like some sitcom that’s been on the air for a ton of years and the writers just feel like they don’t know where else to go with the characters. I would think things would be especially hard in Free Country USA. There’s only one girl and she is and always will be Homestar’s girlfriend so there’s no love triangles. None of the characters really have jobs except maybe Bubs and Coach Z. And TBC seems reluctant to introduce new characters except in certain “Homestar Alternate Universes”.

I’m not trying to scare people by saying I know for sure this is what’s happening. But I’m just saying if we’re thinking about theories of why there hasn’t been updates this would be the most likely.

Especially considering that they haven’t posted a “takin’ a break” bubble on the front page. Because I’m sure they KNOW that we’re all having this conversation right now and that millions of people are checking the site every day wondering what the [heck] is going on. If they had just put up a simple vacation bubble no one would worry or [complain]. So that just leads me to think it’s more than them taking a vacation.

Because what would they do if they ARE having doubts about where to go with the site? Put up a bubble that says “Contemplating the Future”? And you think people are freaking out now?

[Careful now. --It's dot com]

Hey Steven,

You're acting as if YOU don't like HR anymore. Although you are right when you say that they might be searching for other ideas, you don't need to add profanity and sound so rude. If you don't want HR anymore, then go away, because we do.

Back to the point. Though I also agree that they may be taking a break, there is a chance of a huge toon coming out. Then again, this is less likely than Steven's point, but it is possible, and they have worked all month on it.

Or on the other hand, they're just taking a break. We'll see.

Hey come on. I love Homestarrunner.com and wear my T shirt with pride once a week. I didn't mean to sound rude... just to say that this is what I would guess is happening. I hope it is just a random break or they're working on something big.

And I really am very sorry about the "profanity". I didn't know the "h" word and the "b" word were off limits here. To me that's not profanity. But I can respect that and it needs no explaination... h*r.com is a family friendly webpage so hrwiki should be too.

same story... I found this forum today trying to see if anyone knew what was going up with the updates; though I've been a long time user of the wiki

Anyways, I don't have a warm fuzzy. I don't care what happens with the website and cartoon itself, but I'm just curious as to what's going on and concerned about TBC.

I agree with everyone who thinks there should be a small note telling us what's going on. "updates coming soon..." or something... anything...

Mid december I thought that they took a vacation. That's fine and well deserved. Then I thought they were working on a big decemberween thing. nope. Maybe it's a new year's thing... nope.

So, now i'm thinking worse thoughts. Are they okay? Was there an accident? Are there legal troubles? Someone mentioned the wedding around this time years ago, and H*R must be registered as a business. Maybe there's a divorce pending and the business is caught in the middle. Maybe they're being sued by who knows who. That tends to happen when you're in the spotlight and/or start making decent cash.

Maybe they did sell out. Yeah, a tv show is kinda gay. But if I was in their position and Mr Hollywood came and offered me a couple million for the rights to some cartoon I made up, I'd be endorsing that check and enjoying retirement. I could always make another cartoon if I wanted to.

I don't buy the technical difficulties. They could easily update an html page from practically any computer on the net and let us know if there were troubles. I also bet they're smart enough to backup their source work to CD or DVD or something.

I don't buy them being busy filling orders, either. That's a monkey's job and anyone could do it. They could hire people to fill orders or recruit more family members.

Again, I'm not mad that there's no new content. I don't think they owe us anything. I just would like to know what's going on (for better or for worse)

I think this is a good bet. To me, that update that said the sale would go till that date convinced me that the toon update would be next week. It would only make sense to extend the store sale until they get back to working on the site again.

I know that is your opinion and you are entitled to it... but when you have something that you have been working on for that long, i don't think its so easy to give up. remember, they've been doing this toon since college essentially, cuz thats when they wrote the book. if it was a younger project, i would agree with you but it isn't. you don't just hand over your 7 year old brainchild to corporate america and not feel terrible about it in some way. as they said in their interviews, they are making enough money to be comfortable. if i was in that position, i wouldn't be willing to sell out because my needs were met. i know most of this is how i feel as an artist, but i am led to believe they also share my view by the interviews they have given.

also, i don't think the store would have been updated if they were having some kinda tragedy or whatnot. i think there is a reason that TBC chose the 8th to end the sale, and that is when they will be back. i could be wrong, but i think there is a good chance i'm at least partially correct.

and finally, a lawsuit like that woulda been all over the web. stuff like that draws the media people like flies to carrion.

Post subject:  WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON??

Ok...I feel like pulling a Strong Mad and punching a hole in the wall...what is going on with homestarrunner.com? Its been over a month since the last update. I, like everybody else, was expecting some kind of toon for thanksgiving, then xmas...then when that didnt come...maybe new years...whats going on? Then this monday I said - man - I hope theirs a SB e-mail....nothing.

I wish TBC would do something soon with the site to let the fans know that there will be something soon - or never again. I go on the site every fricken day to see if something has changed and I cant take it anymore...its really bothering me...and wasting my time. If they're taking a break - let the fans know. If the site will not be updated in months - let the fans know. Its been too long and its past the point of wondering when the next e-mail/toon/whatever will be on the site - its getting annoying. Ive been a HSR fan for many years and I enjoy the site so much and buy all the merchandise - Let go TBC - you have a bizzillion fans that are getting frustrated. What is up? (my dog)
