Quote: i think there is a reason that TBC chose the 8th to end the sale, and that is when they will be back.
That isn't entirely logical. You'd assume orders would continue up to the 8th, and then you have to process them for a few more days, then get back to making animation, then release it. My money is on a week after that- but anything is possible. Jenny, I hope you're right. Honestly! I hope to come into work Monday morning and pull up http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/H%2AR.com_updates_2006 and see SOMETHING in it. I hope everything is fine and dandy with TBC. I just feel like something is up. I do know alot about creative passion. I've got a hobby I enjoy doing- that I'm passionate about it. I've dedicated years of my life to it. Would I be willing to sell it if I had the freedom of doing something similar over from scratch? absolutely. If I had to sell it and was never allowed to pursue my hobby again in any form, then I'd be hesitant- but would still consider it.
Obviously the magic isn't in the flash, it's what the bros bring to flash. Whatever they decide to do, the magic will follow- that's why I wouldn't be so hurt if they did "sell out" |

Ok, I'm going out on a limb and ruling out the "taking a break theory". I believe they respect their fans too much to just leave us hanging like this for so long. I'm also ruling out the "working on a big toon" theory for the same reason. So what we're left with is that TBC are somehow unable to update, or unwilling to update because of another emergency/non-homestar project/computer crash? |

Can't be technical difficulties. If their computer crashed they'd still be able to call up their server company, get their ftp info and update the site from another location (putting up some simple html that said "computer crash! bear with us") And can't be their server's fault. Things do go wrong with servers, but they don't go wrong for over a month. |

So, either it's some kind of family emergency, or they just don't care so much anymore. |

Or maybe they have their own reasons for not updating. People are over-reacting way too much. |

Whatever they decide to do, the magic will follow- that's why I wouldn't be so hurt if they did "sell out" Just to clarify, I said I think they'll be back on Monday, but I don't necessarily think they will have a new toon. They may or may not update the site, but I think they will be back to work on monday if you know what I mean... ? So that would put the update... as you said... on next monday, not this monday. You're right. It is magic. I have always been in awe of the invisible lasso that binds fans of something together. It is amazing that one thing like that could draw so many people together and create a community. It has always been a dream of mine to someday experience that community around something I give life to. And it is definitely not just the toons we love, it is the imaginations and humor of those two awesome guys. And one awesome girl. I know that giving up one of your creations for money and starting over with a new thing isn't the end of the world, but I just think that with the freedom TBC has with their cartoons, they would not give it away yet. They have so many offshoots from the original cartoons, and so much history and so much possibility to be even more creative, it isn't like they have to limit their imaginations to fit stuff into the site. It has always been that way, if they get bored with plain old Homestar they do something different with it. The fact that they have chosen to use the site to do all their Flash tinkering and have even made those offshoots makes me find it hard to believe they would sell out too. Why not make a whole new site right now instead of doing offshoots all the time? They could if they wanted to. It wouldn't make financial sense to sell something and start over after selling, because the new thing you come up with could flop. It is smarter to launch your new idea before selling out and seeing how it is recieved. The only way I think TBC would abandon Homestar is when they get tired of doing Flash. That I could see happening. Otherwise, I think homestarrunner.com will continue to be their Flash playground. |

I don't think it's wise to just try something different or sell out on Homestar Runner... just yet. Even the most creative people sometimes get... "lucky." Sure, TBC bring magic to these toons. But it's not just that. These characters they've created have become their own thing. TBC could try to make another toon series or something like that if they sold out or just moved on... but even with their magic... the character's magic would be gone. Is it really TBC we love so much or is it the characters themselves? Neither Matt or Mike are Homestar or StrongBad. Parts of them are, but the characters have become their own identity. We love Homestar's blatant lack of really grasping reality... StrongBad's so bad you just love him... things like that. TBC could make more, but they might never be the same. There's just something lucky in how it has turned out for them. The drawings of each character are appealing, as are their attitudes, etc. etc. TBC have lots of sketches of different characters... but nothing as good as H*R and the other main characters has really surfaced. You can't say all the other side-projects like TGS or Trogdor really count... since they all spawn off of the core characters. Without SBEmail there would be no trogdor... without StrongBad, probably no TGS (or it wouldn't be as funny)... and all the sweet cup'n cakes guys are merely exaggerations of these wonderful characters. Pretty much they got lucky. The HARD part is creating this world. The art style of the backgrounds, the settings (strongbadia, the stick, bubs stand)... the easy part is playing with it once it's there. TBC have it easy now. All the elements are in place. The characters have their own personality and now all they have to do is just make some stories up. StrongBad and Homestar probably write themselves... just add an idea into their established characters and you almost know what they might say. So what I'm trying to say is... as good as TBC are... maybe it's not so much them bringing the magic to it as it is their characters. They MIGHT be able to create another universe, but would it really be as good? I've come to realize this after raising such a question myself. Eventually H*R will burn out and become stale... we're not there yet. There's plenty of ideas left. Even if it's as crazy as actually making a cinematic type H*R movie. Which as crazy as it sounds isn't impossible. Splitting it into parts... would be one way of doing it, or making a direct to DVD release. That would of course take away much of TBC's time... but it might just be worth it. Think of if they took the animation they already use... then they combine it with CG elements without cg shading... I mean making 3D elements but coloring them like the rest of the cartoon so they blend like part of flash. They could have Homestar go on some kind of journey (kind of like yello dello but waaay better) ... or maybe StrongBad could go.... lots more cinematic elements and camera movements... etc. Sure, it would be hard and take time from the site. But after they start getting burned out on the old tried and true shorts and slightly longer toons... maybe a huge awesome project is the way to go? Maybe they're doing that now... who knows. My point is. The magic is Homestar and the characters themselves... but since those characters are partly Matt and Mike themselves... nobody else could really pull it off.... that counts towards their voices too. TBC are the only people who can make Homestar. And Homestar might be the best they can and will ever do... partly because of luck. So maybe they should never sell out... and they shouldn't quit yet b/c the well is defeinitely not dry in my opinion. I think it's a break. Or they're cooking up something special. |

Nobody else can really "help" them with the flash because otherwise the style would be inconsistant. So I'm not sure about taking on a bigger team. |

God ye good-den!Such a reaction to such a question. At least the whiny "they hate us" people are gone, from what i see. Good job men. Hug it down. Yes, yes, what fun. I have no clue why I'm writing all these H*R things...quotes...quthings. Guess it's just 12:00 A.M. and I'm not my brain isn't not working too well or correctly. Yes. Very yes. Gah. Tired. Sleep. I feel like Coach Z making the drunk phone call...but I'm not drunk...and this isn't a phone...and I'm not...calling...So I guess I don't...Gah. Guh. Buhhhhhh... Anyway, I'd like to take this opportunity to not talk about anything remotely related to the topic that I gave birth to ( theres a pretty image ) and to just sit here and let my mixed-up, sleep deprived brain just vomit its thoughts onto the keyboard and maybe when I wake up this will all make some degree of sense or summat. But...right now I just feel like taking up space in my thread with total, absolute, CRAP. Because yes, I am bored. Very much so, and if you get in my way you will feel the wrath of a thousand full wine bottles being thrown at you like moths to a compy screen and now its time for the thing where I continue to say stuff about whatever springs to mind... If you've actually taken the time to read this...wow what an amazing attention span u have. And please. Off the carpet, Scooter. Peace out.

This isn't the first time TBC haven't updated for a long time. I mean, it hasn't even been a month yet. I remember back a few years ago, updates were few and far between, except for maybe SBE, but even updates to that became lackluster after a while (when they changed the "updated mondays" to "updated somedays"). I think they're just on vacation. I'm sure they deserve one, too
We'll see an update soon enough. I'm confident they wouldn't abandon the project after it has gained not only national, but international attention. - H |

Don't worry about the "they hate us" crowd, or the "are they... DEAD?" crowd. It's normal fanboy/fangirl behavior. I've seen it on boards for the Transformer's live action movie and on boards for Earthbound players awaiting Mother 3/Earthbound 2. It's so common. |

Hahaha, I had an idea. When they come back... after you hit come on in... it should take you to a page with the stick and strongbad walks in frame. Like so: StrongBad: Sooooo... uhhh.... I guess you guys are probably wonder'n where I've been... Well, it's a long story annnnnnd...... (said quickly) the cheat will tell you all about it!! (runs off camera) Camera pans over to Homestar dressed as the cheat (again): MEH! Mew mew mew mew... mew! (hear steps slowly walking bacK) StrongBad: Hey, your not the cheat! I thought I told you not to ever do that again!! Homestar the Cheat: MEH! I am the cheat! StrongBad: No... your not! Homestar the Cheat: Woo wah wee wee wee... StrongBad: Yeah, well anywayz... since your back... and uh... we're back.. (off camera: MEH!) .... *sigh*.... maybe you should check out the new SBEmail (points to a bubble button that appears)... or maybe this newwwwww.. olddd.. A New-old toon! (Bubble appears with an older toon) Seriously folks... (homestar buts in and says "Seriously") ... happy decemberween... uhm, two weeks ago.... (walks off)... (bubs walks by the camera after a few seconds)... "HERE COMES THE THNIKKAMAN!!!!" "Yeah, Shut up kid!" |

Mike Chapman: we met with cartoon network a year and a half ago. the site was only a couple months old and i think we only had 2 toons. they were nice but said no thanks. since then, the site and the characters have developed so much. it might be worth another shot. What if a studio called tomorrow and offered a flat fee to do a HSR movie with little or no input from you and dramatically changed the vision. Would you go through with it? How much WOULD you be willing to compromise? Mike Chapman: thats a tough one. it all depends on how much money. if it made it so we never had to work again, then obviously we'd do it. its not as if homestar is all we've got. we can make up other funny stuff too. link |

Okay. Here is what I think is going on. In college, when the Homestar Runner was created, I'm sure Mike had a lot of friends. One day, over a pizza, he laughingly said to his buddy, we'll call him Pete, that him and his brother were thinking of starting a whole website about the homestar runner, making new cartoons and such each week, but that it "probably would be lame". Pete said, "Okay, well, if you are still trying to be cool in 2006, I'll take it off your hands." Mike said, "It's a deal" while laughing, dropping a piece of cheese out of his mouth. They shook on it, neither really thinking that it could posibly be running up through 2006. After college, Pete and Mike went their seperate ways and HomestarRunner.com had become a huge success. At the end of December 2005, guess who showed up at Mike & Matt's door? Pete. At first Mike was all, "Hey Pete! Come on in!" But then Pete was like, "Gimmie the website, fool." And Matt was all, "Make us!" And Pete was all "Don't make me sue you, we had a legally binding verbal contract!" So, now, the court order has kept them from touching the website utnil the ownership battle is done. It's now a court room drama. Will Pete, the greedy kid with the heart of stone, be given the website based on a flimsy, yet legally binding situation in college, or will Mike, the hero, be able to keep his creation and once again bring the funny to the masses? Tune in this Thursday night for Litigation Jackson 3: The System is Down! |

My opinion is this: Meh. I don't think TBC have any sort of reason whatsoever to need to inform us of their goings-on. They'll show up eventually, maybe with something really cool, maybe not. We'll just wait and see. Since we're on the topic, if HomestarRunner.com was to be closed, how long would the Wiki (and forum) stay up? |
