Your theory seems to be wrong.

And the.. umm.. envelope. Yeah. That was just.. wrong

I think they just are spending time with their family, they haven't had much time to do that the past years. Rose, you're reacting way more harshly than you should be. Let's all just wait patiently, I'm sure they'll be back soon, probably with an even better toon or email than normal, since they've had some good rest.

Who's theory, and do you have any proof? I'm stumped.

http://www.dictionary.com can help you.

Anyways, for those who think TBC are un loyal, just stay off the site. If you don;t like how they're doing things, fine, no one's forcing you to go on there.

Waitwaitwait... They've been "treating us like crap lately?" How? By not releasing more free stuff for us to watch on their free web site? Yeah, gee, that's pretty harsh. I wish they wouldn't treat us so horribly. Oh, and I guess that $250 they sent us to keep our fan-site running was just a token to distract us from the fact that they're so awful to their fans.

Come on, folks, let's get a little perspective here. Not one of us is harmed nor inconvenienced by TBC's long absence. The only people they're harming by taking such a long break are themselves, and being shrewd, successful businessmen, they know that perfectly well. Let TBC take care of themselves and find something a little more meaningful to expend your energy on than making up pretend ills that TBC have committed against you.

I don't understand how once someone gives something away for "free" we have no rigth to criticise them in any shape of forum. If they bring our hopes up, it's only fair to deliver on it.

And like it or not, the majority of their "behaviour" over the last year HAS indicated that they don't care as much about the fans anymore. It's an observation at worst.

I don't think it's not fair to say we're being inconvenienced. Nobody is demanding they make us cartoons. We're just asking that they at least let us know if they're going to be missing out on a yearly tradition that people were waiting months to see. Considering our loyalty is what makes them money, I don't see how that's too much to ask of them. They were obviously able to update the store - so why not put up a button on the site to inform us?

Saying "They're treating us like crap and I'm sick of it" is not criticism.

Can you name any examples?

Seriously, it's not a big deal, sure they didn't let us know there would be no updates, but so what? If your life is that insignificant that you get so worked up over a website not updating then that's good for you, but no one wants to hear your whining.

... why not? I'm criticisng their recent behaviour.

Guys like Dave Anez and Brian Clevinger always make sure to interact with the fans tons, and they ALWAYS apologise if they miss a comic, always leave nots. Dave even has a job and he still does it. These people are DEDICATED. I've interacted with both of them before and they both really care about their fans.

The Brothers Chapman are no such thing. They distance themselves from the fans in a cloud of mystery. They're more popular than 8 Bit Theater, but they're hardly some uber popular rock band - and even a lot of uber popular rock bands still interact with fans. Consider their animations often consist of mostly reused parts; it's not as if they don't have quite a bit of time on their hands.

Brian Michael Bendis interacts with his fans tons, and he's considerably more famous than TBC, he writes Ultimate Spider-man and the Avengers, for cripes sake.

Yes, it is there choice whether or not to interact with fans. But when there are people who go the full 500 miles to make themselves seem respectful and accessible it's hard to see TBC in such a positive light when they won't even inform us why they've been utterly lax on emails for more than half a year and missing out entirely for the Christian period, when people are expecting an update the most.

They distance themselves from their fans. You can practically tell it by looking at the menu pages that they think they're bigger than they actually are. They never put up notes past little buttons and never apologise if they're months behind schedule.

Sure they gave $250 - and that's great of them and I won't deny it. But when they're throwing money(which they presumably have a reasonable amount of these days, and it's not as if there won't be a return on that investment) at some fans instead of giving all fans what they really want, you have to wonder.

And we ARE being hurt because some fans feel as if they are being treated with a lack of respect, and they want to develop their "Fanbase" for taking money without giving us enough reason to be fans anymore.

But you still aren't giving us any proof, you're just saying that they don;t care then you go off about other people. And what Schedule? Your just making stuf up to support your weak claims.

It sounds to me like you're being upset just for the sake of being upset.

Ugh. I don't think any of us disagree that it would have been a better idea for TBC to at least give us an update on what they're doing than not, but you're just going too over-the-top now. Going almost a month without any acknowledgement of why they're not updating isn't exactly right, but how is that alone supposed to make up the "majority of their behaviour over the past year"? What other half-decent evidence is there besides that that's supposed to outweigh all the good acknowledgements they've made to their fans already pointed out in this thread?

What are you talking about? I'm stating my opinion. They haven't updated in a while, missed out on the big Christmas special, and have given us no indication as to why, when most people who do similiarly big internet sites would. That's plenty to support my claims, whether they are true or not.
Therefore I formulate that they are loosing care for their fans, and may perhaps be even tiring of H*R as a whole. If you disagree, fine, but don't badger me for "proof".

That's quite possible the most wonderful thread summary I've seen in years. Thank you.

People just like to "suck up" to TBC, I think, and therefore don't allow people to have a problem with anything they do.

Oh, ok Rose. I won't ask for proof, I'll just blindly follow everything you say.

As for the things you listed, it seems all you did was break down one thing. And how does that cover half a year of dis-regarding us?

You have every right to criticize it. I just don't see the point in accusing them of treating their fans like crap when, well, they haven't. They sent us a personal note with original art and $250 attached, for cripes sake.

I would also love to know what's going on. I really wish TBC had a blog where they'd tell us what's happening, why there's no updates, and what they had for breakfast, or even just a button on the site that says "New stuff coming eventually!" but I don't have the sense of entitlement to believe they owe it to us or have any obligation to do so. They're free to do whatever they want with their web site, and we're free to stop buying their stuff.

Inform us what? That there aren't any updates? If they're aren't any updates, there aren't any updates. No updates will appear. They don't need a banner that says "NO UPDATES TODAY". If there isn't anything new on the "what's new" button update thing, you can just as easily conclude there aren't any updates (really easy to do).

How? What are you baseing any of your opinions on? All you do is scream stuff at us and get upset when we don't accept it as truth. Personally,I think you know I'm right and you're just saying that so you an back out of this with some sense of dignity. But, it doesn't matter, I agree neither of us are getting any where with this and should stop.

Rosalie, it's not necessary to turn every thread into a personal crusade, and it's even less necessary to start name-calling. Take a deep breath. Maybe go outside for awhile. Pick some flowers.

Everyone else: Toast paint.

Seriously. TBC is probably working non stop on a big update, and although a note would be nice, it's not required. I can't see why they'd update the store but not tell us where the updates are, but I can say that civilly, and not have a personal crusade. This is exactly why these topics keep getting locked.

Edit: Heh. Simupost.

Yeah, it just occurred to me this morning that maybe they're going to redo the entire front page of the site, or are making a new intro, or something huge like that. Maybe they intended to have it finished by Decemberween or by January 1, but weren't able to, hence the long silence.

I'm thinking it might be possible TBC could be working on some huge update, but maybe don't want to announce it specifically because it's some kind of big, unexpected surprise that'll knock us out of our seats. That's the only thing which makes sense that I can think of....

Maybe they're retiring Homestar Runner and will be debuting HomeschoolWinner.com.

Er.. Unguraits.com?

Beef.... stew?

Hah. That reminded me of my theory ("broken imagination"). Maybe the started working on the Christmas or New Years toon and simply were having trouble thinking of something. Or maybe they just want to do something really huge but it's taking longer than expected.

As I pointed out, both Brian Clevinger and Dave Anez always inform when they're not making their updates, or apologise if they don't. Why are TBC above that?
Previously, Strong Bad email was updated every week, and we got holiday specials on time. Again, we made them what they are, so it's only fair to tell us why they're making these changes.

Not always. If I remeber correctly there's been loads of times they decided not to do an E-mail. And the Holiday toons haven't always been on time, in '03 they did a couple shorts in July.

Because, they don't really have a strict schedule. They don't even know if they're going to make an update in the next few days or not. And as I pointed out, we don't have to be informed when there aren't updates. When nothing new is on the "what's new" button, that's how you can figure out that there aren't updates.

Well, duh. But they should still give some indication they're working on something, or say why they haven't made a cartoon in so long, or say they're taking a break before they do. It's called "respect for your fanbase".

Except they don't really know when they're about to make something or take a break or whatever. On December 8 they didn't say "let's not do anything with the site for 20 days."
