yeah, I expect this topic will be locked too, because you're not allowed to talk about the absense of toons... for whatever reason. God forbid we infect the forum with discussion! |

To quote one of our mods (I'll leave it to you to find the post...) Quote: STOP. POSTING. ABOUT. THIS.
Before posting something, please do a quick search to make sure it hasn't already been covered It gets a little old answering the same questions (especially when there are at least 3 posts about it already)

It has nothing to do with discussion, it has to do with posting the same message in 14 different places. |

(triple post, holy crap!) So I can't seem to find any of the other topics (unlocked at least) concerning this topic. I tend to agree with you, DJ, so I'll let it stay open as long as it stays on topic. However, I suppose it's alright to be concerned about TBC, but I don't see why we need to be getting upset if "our" toon isn't ready on time. This isn't somethign that we pay for, nor is it something that is necessary to live... well, that's true for most of us anyway
So, keep the discussion on topic (and not too silly) and we'll let this topic stay open. At least until we see a new toon, email, etc show up. |

Uhh...yes they do. TBC's job is Homestar Runner. Their fans are...whoever the crap hands out paychecks. Without their fans, they'd be working at a McDonalds or something. |

Thanks, Stu. I realize I'm new here, so I'd been keeping my mouth shut about this, but I *had* been wondering why so many seemingly on-topic conversations about the lack of updates of the site with which this forum is concerned had been stifled so many times. Zadermatermorts, responding to your original post, no one really seems to know why there haven't been any updates. You can search (mostly in the Spam Vault) for discussions about this, but there haven't been any concrete answers. That said, it's New Year's Day, and I'd really been hoping to see something before now. Although I'm not angry with TBC, and I'm not going to boycott the site or anything silly like that, I *am* disappointed. When Decemberween came and went without an update, I had been kind of hoping they'd do something for the new year... but it seems that, too, probably isn't going to happen. And that's a shame. I understand that they're not obligated to provide their fans with anything at all. It is, as many have said, their site, and they can do as they wish. However, I think it would have shown respect for their many fans to at least let us know what's up. Happy New Year, anyways.

i am glad to see you leave this post open for comments. i tried to post about how annoying it was that these posts (that arent off topic or breaking any forum rules) keep getting locked. and as far as i can tell it was deleted. and back to topic.. i think that TBC is going to just start updating like nothing happened. and we will never get an explanation. they will just update an SBemail or something. and they have never really shown concern for the fans. they are probably down to earth people who just dont really like publicity so they try to stay low key as much as possible. |

I think the lack of updates around this time is a little strange. Consider what has been added since December 5th of this year (the last SBEmail) up until January 1st, as compared to the same 12/6-1/1 time period in previous years: 2005: - weekly stuff only updated once - announcement in the store 2004: - weekly stuff updated three times - Strong Bad E-mail #120 - that Peasant's Quest Snow Globe thing - Decemberween toon 2003: - two Strong Bad E-mails, #91 and #92 - new main page - quote of the week and Limozeen shirt 2002: - three Strong Bad E-mails, #54, #55 and #56 (probably the equivalent of close to 2 full E-mails by modern standards) - new Decemberween toon - new main page I personally believe it's probably a combination of them feeling both a little burnt out and busy in their own lives rather than "laziness" (and note the absence of a new Decemberween toon in 2003 as well). As I've said before, I'll wait until the results of the next couple toons/E-mails/whatevers to pass judgement on whether they've "lost it" or "jumped the shark" or whatever. |

Possible. As I said before, I don't begrudge them the right to take as much time off as they want or need. But, as a matter of respect, it would be nice if they would at least post *something* to let their viewers know what's up. Since they're not advertiser-supported, it's not like they need to keep traffic levels high on the site, and a simple "no updates till January Xth" message would have been a courteous gesture for those who, like me, check the site daily. |

Well, even if they didn't that's still fine. They do this for us and all we have to do is make an optional donation, which they in turn then give us free merchandise (buying stuff in other words). Saying they don;t care about is being just ignorant. They have lives of their own too. I'm sure there's a good reason why they didn't tell us there was going to be updates (maybe they were planning on it but were too busy). |

With all due respect, I never said they didn't care. Sometimes unexpected things happen, and as I said, I don't believe they are obligated to let us know what's up. It would, however, have been respectful to do so -- and probably good business sense as well. Would you close your shop for the holidays and not put a sign up in the window telling your customers what was up or when you'd be back? You wouldn't be *required* to do so by any means, but wouldn't it be the right thing to do, both for your customers' sake and for the sake of your continuing business? |

So without fans, they would be bettering the technological world, improving internet browsers and programs. wouldn't that be aweful?

Then why have they been hardly updating lately, and not even bothering with Xmas/new years toons, or even Weekly fan stuff. They'll probably continue as normal too, I guarantee it. They're popular now; they don't have to give a crap about their fans. Yet they did have time to update a STORE announcement. STORE. They could have done something for us, the fans, to say why they were taking so long. They didn't. They'd rather extend the sale so more people buy their stuff. Maybe TBC from a year or two ago would have cared about their fans, but quite frankly, they've been treating us like crap lately and I'm sick of it. It's not as if this is isolated; they've been screwing us over with SBEmail for months. |

I don't think it's the case, but if they don't give a crap about their fans, it's because of the people who just demand more. They're giving hours of their time to give us free entertainment and have been for years. I think they deserve a break, especially to spend time with their family during the holidays. |

Guys, let's just calm down. TBC hasn't seen our Wiki or our fanfictions! We sent Matt a birthday card! They DO give a crap about us! On the other hand, if you want this locked, fine by me. |

Waitwaitwait... They've been "treating us like crap lately?" How? By not releasing more free stuff for us to watch on their free web site? Yeah, gee, that's pretty harsh. I wish they wouldn't treat us so horribly. Oh, and I guess that $250 they sent us to keep our fan-site running was just a token to distract us from the fact that they're so awful to their fans. Come on, folks, let's get a little perspective here. Not one of us is harmed nor inconvenienced by TBC's long absence. The only people they're harming by taking such a long break are themselves, and being shrewd, successful businessmen, they know that perfectly well. Let TBC take care of themselves and find something a little more meaningful to expend your energy on than making up pretend ills that TBC have committed against you. |

Well, I wouldn't exactly say they're "helping" us, but they are entertaining us. And if I turn on my computer and see that for the 24th consecutive day there's nothing new on H*R.com, it's not like it's ruined my day or anything. I can hop on the forum and chat with you wonderful people (whom I'd never have met were it not for TBC), I can revisit any of the hundreds of hilarious toons already available for free on H*R.com, or I can--inconceivable though it may sound--go outside and have a life. It's like the whole world is my smorgasbord! |

(Er.. Hello everyone. I read here alot, but this is the first time I've posted...) I just wanted to say, before this thread gets locked down and put away, that perhaps something unforseen came up... Someone in the family might be in the hospital, or visiting unannounced, etc. I too check the site everyday and it is weird for there not to be anything at all for such a long time, but hey, we all have lives away from our machines, right? To ease the agony of waiting, I hit that good ol' rando button.

Maybe they got a new computer, and they can't find the Flash CD, so they can't install it, so they can't make toons. That's my theory. |
