I remember reading one of the wiki articles a while back, about how the first Homestar Runner book was written in Atlanta during the '96 Olympics, out of boredom. and thinking, "huh". But just recently, I re-read it, and it hit me: I was in Atlanta during the Olympics! It was the summer I turned 10, and me and my mom and my brother went to visit the Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta. I also got to see the Gold Medal finals for soccer, which was pretty cool, except I didn't care.
But still, thinking back, I never would have guessed that while I was prancing around that big ol' fountain shaped like the Olympic logo, Mike Chapman and Craig Zobel were taking the first steps towards the creation of a webcartoon that I seldom think I could live without. Next week: Why people think saying "co-winky-dink" is funny! |

Well enail, maybe you were somehow involved in the creative process. Nothing's more inspirational than some kid prancing around a fountain. |

Yeah, come to think of it, I have flashbacks to that summer everytime I watch the part in Interview where Homestar prances around. |

![]() I can just imagine the scenario. Mike, Craig Zobel, and possibly Matt, sitting on a park bench in the Centennial Olympic Park: Mike: Hey! Look at that kid prancing around! Let's throw our soda cans at him! Craig: Wait, I have a better idea! Why not write a book about some underbite guy in a beanie cap, who merely prances around like him! Then we can make copies of it and give them to our friends. And, in about 4 years when Mike gets around to learning how to do Flash animation, we'll make a website! Matt: I'll do vocals! Yeah... Wow, If that was true, I'd have the biggest ego anyone would be allowed to have. |

It was that big during the games, but now, it's 3 or 4 really small parks. That was my biggest shock. I would think something called Centennial Olympic Park would be huge.

Heh. My parents were there, too. They watched the volleyball tournament. I was only five then... so I stayed in Greenville. Of course, it's only like [s]an hour and a half[/s] two hours away. One-day Homestar delivery service, anyone? |

i believe homestar did prance around once, like in the interview short. the only olympics i've cared about was the sydney olympics and i didn't go. hmmm. here's a thought. at that park, you could have walked right past them and neither one would know that ten years to come, you'd be one of thousands of fans, but you could have met them in person. it could be true you helped them on their quest for famous-dom. tell me this. did you have arms back then? |

Well, sorta, but they were these long bony things with a joint in the middle, and hands at the end. |

Yeah, they were visible. I checked the Museum, and it turns out the original cover was created July of '96, the same month I was born in. However, the likelihood that I inspired the creative process is minimal, but I still think it's a cool story that I oughta tell my little sister (who made some spiffy drawings of Trogdor, his wife Trogdella, their son Lil' Troggie, and their friend Cool-Fire, who lives in a flaming igloo (don't ask, she's 8)). |

She's adorable. Also, I read the official Wikipedia article, and it turns out that during the Olympics, TBC had jobs relating to it, and it got me thinking as to whether or not I might have actually met one of them. I seem to remember running this one obstacle course with my brother at the Coca Cola Olympic Pavillion place, and the guy running, as I remember, was a guy between the ages of 18-21. I'm not positive though, but I'm gonna directly email them and see if they respond (not likely though, |
