I agree enough that I'm not disagreeing with the first part. Maybe a little extreme, but the general idea = yes.

But they do make some good G and PG movies still. The Incredibles is my favorite movie of all time, and it's G. Although sure, most of the G and PG movies are garbage, they do make some good ones.

Well, what can I say? A lot of parents are stupid. And that dude who said many of the jokes would only be understood by 15+ are wrong because I am 11 and understand every single joke on the website.

Who cares if only 15+ peoples can understand it? It means that the little kids can't understand it, so it still is appropriate. The only wrong things I see is "The Bird" and "Homestarloween Party". The rest is just nothing.

In the end it really is up to the person's parents, and anything anyone says will not convince those kinda people otherwise. I know enough of them. It's like the whole "Harry Potter is EVIL" sort of thing. But doing stuff like that only results in loss of respect for both parties and it makes me sad. The parents can't respect their kids enough to let them start making decisions for themselves, and the kids won't respect their parents because of the pressuring restrictions.

As far as Homestar being appropriate for certain ages, I think after age 12 there should be no questions about its content being unwholesome. Seriously, unless you are homeschooled or live in a tupperware container you pretty much know everything that is referred to in the toons by then and understand it to a full extent. I know because I have a 12 year old sister and believe it or not I WAS TWELVE ONCE. Yeah.

My parents are weird. I knew EVERYTHING there was to know by the time I was like 7. When I say everything, I mean... A LOT more than I should have. The stuff usually reserved by some people for discussions in the teen years even. And they taught me to spell every swear word when I was 6.

I'm not saying that's a good idea, but that's just the way it was for me. They pretty much answered anything I asked, but I am shy so I didn't ask a lot. So there are still a few things I learn every once in a while, but that is only because I never felt curious about that stuff. I love knowing I can talk about anything with my parents and not feel so awkward. It's too bad that a lot of people will never know that comfort.

Being the child of conservative Presbyterian parents, I had to put up with some constraints, but not nearly as many as you might think. My parents let my watch Jurrassic Park when I was, I think 7 or 8, which was really awesome. They didn't let me watch R rated movies or play M rated games til I was 17, but I don't blame them. I wouldn't let any of my hypothetical children watch/play them either. Yeah, I felt left out 'cause my friends all played Mortal Kombat and watched horror films and such, but I don't doubt that early exposure to those things negatively impacted them in some way. That reminds me of a situation with my little sister and one of her classmates, who is about 8, and from what I've heard, a real jerk. My little sister says it's because her parents let her watch R rated movies.

My mom actually likes Homestar. I mean, she doesn't exactly check for updates, but when I bought my Trogdor! swe atshirt, I showed her dragon so she would understand, and she found it hilarious. And she likes Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits.

Unfortunately, once something tragic like that happens, everyone worries that it's going to happen to them.


The mother in question here probably heard of some kid who did something that got connected to the internet. She's probably just thinking that H*R is part of that connection.

My mom just doesn't get H*R and doesn't really frankly care. As long as she doesn't hear like, Satanic chanting from my room, she's okay.

Why would anyone find H*R offensive? One would think parents would appreciate it, since the cast likes to make jokes and references to pop culture from the 80s and early 90s, when most of the parents that are concerned about their child's Internet exposure would've been trendy and into said pop culture in an effort to impress a potential mate.

It's because of this brand of losers, the overprotective parents, that they invent things like NetNanny, Websense, channel blocks, curfews, permission slips, grades posted on the Internet, et cetera. The point has been made before and it's true - shielding your children from everything only makes for very weak, uncertain adults which will then shield their children from everything because they don't know anything about these new stimuli and don't know what it will do to their children. It's a vicious cycle, really.

*shrugs* We just have to understand there will always be inconsiderably protective parents out there. (If it wasn't for mine, I'd probably be hooked on MTV at an early age ('cause that's just the kind of person I used to be).) That's something I just had to get used to.

My best friend told me her mom wouldn't let her see The Grinch because it's about an evil monster who wants to steal happiness. At that time, my friend was thirteen years old. It wasn't about the content-- I don't think the lady even read the storybook at all, since it ends so nicely.

the only reason my family doesn't like it is because they think i obsess. not because it's overrated. my mom(australian, becoming american) lets me watch anything with adult themes, cussing and even a little nudity but nothing horribly gory. i'm okay with that.
