Wow that's a HUGE number, does anyone know anything more about this? As always if this is ABP'd or just crampin' your style feel free to lock it. |

I've always wanted to know what happened that day...that day...there were 248 users on...yeah. Thanks for asking, I was afraid to. |

Woah, I don't remember that. I'm not sure what that was, I'm not sure if I was even on then. |

I think we should try to break the record again for the forum birthday (May 8). |

Are you counted as long as your browser is opned to the forum? Like, if I left the forum index up and went away, would I be counted. I'm assuming so, just want to make sure. |

No. The way the forum tells how many people are online is by how many people have loaded a page in the last X minutes (where X is something like 5 or 10), so leaving the browser open to the forum won't work. Well, it will, but only for a few minutes. |

Maybe like a forum birthday social party. Where we just talk. About...nothing really...we should do that. |

About...nothing really...we should do that. But the forum doesn't reallt work that way, it's not a chatroom. Things like taht are for the IRC. |

Let's look at the facts. Fact 1: it was a Saturday. Fact 2: it was 5 days after portrait. Fact 3: it was the Saturday right before the site's holiday drought. Anyone able to draw a conclusion from all that? |

My first two guesses were: * Something kick-awexome on H*R that everyone was clamoring to comment on. * Massive spam/DDoS attack. There was no H*R update around then, and there's nothing in the Spam Vault (though for a big attack TPTB might have just baleeted the threads). A DDoS sounds most likely to me (I wasn't here at the time, I was on holidays)... it would mean a lot of page loads, from a lot of computers, evidently at least 248 of them within five minutes. |

Yep, that sounds like about the time the denial-of-service attacks happened (at the end of them at least). I guess that probably disappoints a lot of people, but yeah, there weren't 248 actual users on at once.
