I was thinking yesterday that TBC never have really made anything that wasn't funny. Do you think they'll ever do anything really serious? TELL WHAT U THINK!

Edit so you won't keep using this topic to diss TBC - Jesty

Um... They almost have. "Boring" was really, um, boring... So that wasn't that funny.

No, not something that you don't think is funny, I mean like Strong Bad coming in and talking about Drugs, or National Security. Like that.

I don't think that will happen. It's just not TBC. It's more of a G.I Joe type thing.

Or a Cheat Commandos thing.

"Stay in school, and don't do drugs! He-he ha-ha!"
"Are you even trying anymore?"

What about that thing...I think it's called "If I controlled the camera" or something. I don't think that was supposed to be funny. I forget. Search the wiki for it.

I think he means that pizza place they did/helped make a site for a while ago. If that's the case, it really wasn't supposed to be funny, not that much at least, especially since it wasn't H*.

Mellow Mushroom is what you guys are talking about. I'm not quite sure about everything about it, considering there's only one toon.

Boring was great.

:bubs: "Ouh... ...Strong Bad."

:sb: "Really...REALLY...small steps..."

TBC are trying to be funny, regardless of how much you liked "x" animation. I don't suppose it will change.

I don't get the hate for "Boring" either. I thought it was hilarious. The part with Strong Sad really makes the whole email work. "You guys! I struck gold on the alien spaceship and it gave me superpowers!"

I'd say Experimental Film (minus the commentary) is the closest thing to "serious" on the whole site right now... at the very least it seems more like something that's just supposed to be really weird and artsy and cool rather than funny. Of course, it still has some funny/amusing parts in there, mostly the bits with Homestar and Strong Bad...

I would find it very hard to make a "serious" cartoon. Serious writing, yah, no problem.
I just think that the style tht TBC has does not lend itself well to seriousness.

I think TBC may eventually do some from of serious animation, but will it be related to Homestar or even found homestarrunner.com? Most likely, no. Homestar Runner is widely known now as a comedy site and doing just one serious cartoon might not help their image too well.

Besides, as their spoof G.I. Joes, Cheat Commandos, show us, those type of things are always really phoney and fake. I don't think TBC would intentionally stoop that low...

The Experimental Film was not funny. I enjoyed it because of the music video aspect. I find it to be a little to seriuos for TBC but I still love it.

i think seriousness will only be approached when it is being mocked. Appropriate innapropriate Peer to teen choice behaviors, anyone?

My thoughts exactly. If you ever see TBC make a serious type toon, it'll probably be on some other sort of site. I can;t see it being hosted on H*R.com.

Even though it wasn't supposed to be funny overall, there were intentional jokes in it (for example, when Homestar sticks his head in, disrupting the split-screen effect).

I highly doubt that there would ever be anything on the site that was 100-percent serious. (Even the Legal page has Homestar walking up and saying "Boring!") The only thing I could imagine would be if there was some kind of tragedy and TBC felt that they needed to publicly address it. If H*R.com were as popular in September of 2001 as it is now (and updated as often), then they might have made something serious.

Strong Sad's box of memories isn't funny. It's ... really sad. It seriously makes me want to be his friend, or give him a present or something, and then I realize none of it is real. But still.

You might argue that SB's card was funny, but I think it is probably the saddest thing there: one of Strong Sad's only "happy" memories is a hastily thrown together card that his brother was forced into writing him. Poor guy.

I would love to see something where Strong Sad shares the history of Homsar with Strong Bad and it ends up being saddening and emotional, to the point where it goes back to being hilarious when you remember it's Homsar it's all being addressed towards.

Homsar could be, uhh. An immigrant with hope for his future coming to Free Country USA, with a brain to boot. Then he met the heavy lourde and his world turned upside-down. (Literally. Characters page.) And the thing about him overdosing on painkillers after calling Marzipan ends up true and his hopeful future is CRUSHED. I don't know XD
