Ok, so I know someone has already released one, but I made this before I came to the forum here, and, now that download.com has finally published it for me, I want to get it out to the public. I know I also posted in the other thread, but I don't think anyone who's looking for the download is going to look past the first option and find mine, so I decided to start a new topic... Anywho...

I've just released a brand new Homestar Runner toolbar. Ahem... spiel below...

It's another Homestar Runner Toolbar - and a speedy release of v2.0! Followed by a not-so-speedy release of v3.0. Includes links to all the important stuff, with the exception of the HRWiki forum, as there are many Homestar Runner forums out there that would also require links for those deprived souls among us.

Ahem...

The Homestar Runner Toolbar is an enhanced navigation bar. With a simple keyword entry, the multiple scrolls and clicks of the Homestar Runner website can be immediately bypassed, and any file can be reached immediately. Simply type the toon name OR the toon's filename, and one click is all it takes. The Homestar Runner Toolbar also offers instant access to hrwiki.org, the web's most comprehensive Homestar Runner information database. Again, a simple keyword entry is all that's needed to find everything from fun facts to transcripts to Easter eggs - all in one source.

Also included is the Wiki This! button, which takes you directly to the wiki information page for the current toon, as well as "back" and "next" buttons for SBEmail navigation. In addition, The Homestar Runner Toolbar features a number of quick links for lightning-speed navigation of the Homestar Runner website.

Perhaps the most innovative feature of the toolbar, however, is the inclusion of multiple "Random Toon" buttons. Whether you just want to immerse yourself in SBEmails, or whether you're in the mood for a quick Teen Girl Squad fix, the Homestar Runner toolbar has a randomizer fit just for you! Rather than turning up a toon from a category you don't want - like an Answering Machine when you're in the mood for a Short - the Homestar Runner Toolbar allows you to customize the randomizer, so you get what you want, when you want it!

Features include:
  • Direct link to Homestar Runner and Videlectrix
  • Ability to jump to any toon via toon name or filename
  • Direct WIKI link
  • Immediate searching of the WIKI
  • "GoTo" for any section of the site
  • Divided Rando Button to let you randomize from a specific section of the site
  • "Wiki This!" button to take you directly to a page's corresponding wiki page.
  • "Next" and "Back" email buttons for quick navigation.
  • No advertisements or annoying outside links!

Downloads and screenshots available here.

Let me guess... Internet Explorer only?

Ugh.

Internet Explorer only for now, but a firefox version is coming. The reason for this is: I had the firefox version, and noticed that Internet Explorer didn't have one (that I could find), so I decided to make the IE version first. Origionally, I just wanted to copy the firefox one, but since I enhanced it so much, I'm releasing the firefox version as soon as I finish it.

I'm a man of all browsers, you see! I use both, as the situation calls for them. (Some of my favorite websites don't look as good in firefox, so I view them in IE.)

That's very simple, thanks to all the redirects that have been set up recently...

Just take the filename part (just pull everything between the last / and the last .) and add http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/ to the front of it. With a few exceptions (check my Greasemonkey script) that'll take you to the right page... you'll just have to hard-code the exceptions.

I can't test it of course, being IE only, but it should be a boon to the people who haven't yet discovered the joys of Firefox and Greasemonkey ;)

Eh, it's not about what month it is. Click the link, it's the sound of TROGDOOOOOOOR! in reverse.

Funny to me.

That's pretty good, I like "Milk, the longest, yes or no?" especially. I used to do that with songs, then record them (playing the chords backward) and then reverse it. It sounds almost like the original, only... a little special.

That's what IETab is for, signor.

But I'm glad to hear you're not an IE-only sort.

Wow! I wish I had known about that before... Goodbye normal IE, then!

Still, I'll finish the development of this toolbar...

And, Philip, I've implemented the Wiki This! button, and it'll be there in the next version. On to the "Next" and "Previous" buttons!

Legal Double Post'd...

Version 2.0 is now available, but won't be posted at download.com until May 6th. Or later. So... for now...

You can download it here.

The SBEmail Navigation and Wiki This! buttons have been added, but, after looking through the homestar runner source code, the only way for the toolbar to display updates is to read the raw flash code... I don't think it's gonna be capable of that, since a large portion of the coding, believe it or not, is javascript.

Hope you IE users like it, and you firefox users once I finish that version.

If you want any more features, just list them here, and I'll see what I can do.

Ok, so not all browsers... just IE and Firefox... except when I use the school's macintosh computers; I use Safari then.

Either way, three browsers (or two) isn't all of them. :p

If you get some time, you should really make a Safari one. IE isn't supported on Macintosh, and a lot of Mac users use Safari.

Your toolbar sounds really cool. I've been busy so I haven't been able to work on mine. What do you use to make your toolbar?

Oh, the Direct Wiki Links are EXTREMELY sounding awesomeish. I still can't figure that out.

I used Toolbar Designer 2.0 - http://www.toolbardesign.com. It's free as long as you don't try to sell your software. As for the direct wikilink, I used JavaScript code to get that going, so part of it was actually raw coding. I'm not gonna give it away (that would defeat the purpose of having two seperate toolbars), but you can probably figure it out on some javascript site somewhere.

And, I'll definitely look into the Safari toolbar programming, though I'm very unfamiliar with it, so... no promises. I'll do what I can figure out how to do.

Way too legal Doublepost'D!

The toolbar is now available for Firefox! Check the first post for a download link.

What's it do? Just not come up, or what? I'll try to fix it.

download window: you have chosen to open rando.swf
open with: open with flash player and then nothing happens.
save to disk: it does, and nothing else.

Don't open it in Flash Player. Open it in Firefox. (If you use Internet Explorer, go sit in the corner.)

Hmm, that's strange. My computer opens the SWF in the browser for both Firefox and IE. It must be something about your personal settings... I'll look into other ways to do the random toon, such as using a javascript file hosted at my website or something.

If you wanted to do some hacking, you could just access rando.xml directly and pick a random toon that way.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. I'm already on it.

EDIT: By the way, since I'm doing it this way now, do you think I should include "Random Email," "Random Toon," "Random Short," "Random Answering Machine," "Random TGS," "Random Holiday Toon," "Random Puppet Toon," "Random PbTC Toon," and just plain "Rando," or keep it as just the one button?

This is more like the other other HsR toolbar... Mine was first, doshindude's was second, and yours was third, and I think yours is probably the best so far.
(I wish Mozilla would let me update mine. I've been dying to make these changes but for some reason it won't pass their automatic virus-scan type thing that they have...)

Try this:

Copy your source code for all your files to some internet space just temporarily - there are lots of places you can do this, like Writely. On another computer, go back and recreate your development folders and files, and then repackage them. Then submit them again.

Also, make sure you've scanned your computer with a good virus scan. I assume you've done so already, though, but there may be some lingering infection of some past virus in the xpi, so recompliling on a different machine might fix it. Just a thought.
