Is it just me, or is H*R highly similar to Monty Python's Flying Circus?

Here are the rorsons(reasons for all of you (in French accent) empty-headed animal food-trough-wipers(back to normal accent) who don't speak Coach Z):

-Both have tons of running gags and recurring characters (in H*R's case, as in non-main characters)
-Both are absurdical
-The Heavy Lourde gag is totally taken from the 16-ton weight from MPFC

Well, I agree with you that they use the same kind of humor. CRAZEE HUMOR. TUMOR. UHh...I think it's different enuff sos It's not the next MPFC...but it's close.

I do see where you're coming from, but don't think that's the case. Monty Python in my mind is more along the lines of SNL and shows like that. Homestar is more of a genre in itself, with not terribly much out there that is blindingly similar, which is probably one of the reasons that it became so popular in the first place. But still, there are some

Monty Python was much more crude.

Um, no.

I hate it when people are all like "OH BLAH BLAH BLAH IS THE NEXT LADEEDAH OMG IM SO CLEVR 4 KUMPARING TOO CUMPLEETLY DIFRUNT THANGZ."

Ok, that was harsh, but only because I used IM speak.

But I totally thought of the 16-ton weight when I saw that Heavy Lourde.

Yeah, that has to be the biggest difference.

Monty Python was more of a sketch show that Homestar. Homestar does have the same type of humor, though.

The only similarity between them I see is that they're both funny. They've got nothing to do with each other, but I agree they have the same sort of humor. So, simply put, no.

Not overly similar.
Where's the Ministry of Silly Walks in FCUSA?

Well, you can kinda make the reference by saying that MPFC probably had a part in H*R. I'm willing to bet that TBC are huge fans of Monty Python. The humor can be very similar, but not enough that can say "Homestar is based off Monty Python!"

I don't think you can even compare the two.

Monty Python had a completely different style to it. It pioneered the whole "weird" style of humour. Where else might you find the great Bicycle Repairman?

Well, they're obviously influenced by Monty Python, but not quite. Honestly, Family Guy is far closer to the Monty Python style of humor in that non sequitors are used heavily in ways that have no relation to the story itself.

As absurd as H*R is, all of the gags are tied to the story itself, it's incredibly rare (only in Homsar's case, haw) for a truly unrelated gag to be in a toon. That's the biggest difference in my opinion.

Yeah, Family Guy is more monty python that Homestar. Python has WAAAAAAAAY more nonsense in it than Homestar. I don't really like monty python. I didn't even capitalize it.

Those are pretty vague connections there.

I think you guys might be right. H*R is influenced a bit by MPFC, but not totally based off of it. However, pretty much any absurdical comedy these days is influenced by Monty Python. I'm saying that in the realm of absurdical comedy, H*R is following MPFC as being the next great work of absurdical comedy. (Actually, it's probably actually following the Simpsons, since people call that the greatest show of the 20th century, and it's mostly absurdical humor.)

PizzaTrophy is totally right. I think that any municipality (Support the Municipality! We're onto you.) or government needs a Ministry of Silly Walks.

I almost voted yes. The reason why I didn't is because H*R is in a completely different genre than Monty Python. You can't really call a web cartoon the next live action comedy sketch show. However, I can see where you are coming from. In addition to the reasons you have stated, some other similarities include an an innovative stream-of-consciousness approach to H*R's "sketches", and a solid cast of "actors" that take on many roles.

Oh, and NOTHING can EVER replace Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Homestar Runner is undoubtedly at the same funniness level of MPFC, but the style of comedy is different. Brittish vs... Georgian. They're two seperate entities, more like... Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. Equally awesome, but The Lord of the Rings is by no means the "new Star Wars."

Behind me, sitting in his recliner. AKA my dad.

Anyway, I haven't seen that much of MPFC, but I do know about some of the episodes. And from the ones I've seen and read scripts for, I can say that Homestar Runner is different than MPFC by... a long mile... more like... a thousand long miles. Okay 1. There a little bit of crude humor in H*R that I might expect from Flying Circus regulary, like Coach Z's inapproapiate comments to Marzipan at the commercial break.

If FCUSA does get a Ministry of Funny Walks then I might reconsider.

Umm...If no one likes Monty Python anymore, then why does it have such a large and devoted following that grows by the day?

Homestar is more of it's own thing. There are some shades of Monty Python, but they are merely conicidental.

Wow, I'm controversial now, let's get even more controversial! Monty Python is the nerdiest thing to hit the planet and people who think it's funny have serious issues, like this guy.

OK, that's too far! Thou hast aroused the wrath of The Almighty Bulldozer, and he shalt smite thee!

*SMITE!!!

Thou hast been smitten.

Now here we have Mr. Katana X of HRWiki. He cannot be seen. However, he has chosen a rather obvious hiding place. *blows up the bush Katana is hiding behind*

Without Monty Python, many of the comedies that are on TV now would not exist. Shows like SNL, MADtv, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm and other shows are all based of the Monty Python mold. As for you being controversial, you just need to take the blinders off and open your mind, being closed minded is for idiots.

If you wish to continue this disscussion, then PM me.
