Post subject:  Input wanted...building a Sims 2 neighborhood based on H*R

Hey y'all, I'm planning to make a big neighborhood in The Sims 2 based on the H*R universe... Not sure how far I'll get (it'll really depend on people who are willing to help me out, as I plan to make Sims with custom models for the characters as well)...but I'm still really early on, just placing the lots and stuff. Anyway, can someone come up with a creative way to name some of the streets? Surely there's some sort of funny reference that could be used in the addresses...

Anyway, input would be wanted here. :) Let's see how cool this MIGHT turn out. ;) Thanks!

I tried doing this...but I got frustrated really quickly. ^^;; Maybe it's because I tried making it way too complicated (ie, multiple generations, entire family trees for each of the canon characters). I didn't get very far as a result. But I DID make a couple of cool buildings, like the KOT's castle (though it's really huge o o;; ) and Bubs' Concession Stand (more like an entire mini-mart, actually but...eh, it's Sims).

I had some pretty cool street names but I can't remember all of them off the top of my head (Although I'm fairly sure I created a Prance Pkwy).

Maybe one day I'll go back to working on it, or at least simplifying it.

Hehe, yeah, I don't think I'd make entire family trees and stuff, though I would probably try to make at least simple versions of all characters...yeah, probably even including the rare ones like Homeschool Winner. :P (He wouldn't have a house, but he'd just be in the family bin.)

Prance Parkway...perfect for Homestar... Do you remember the name of Strong Bad's or Marzipan's street?

Also, if you have a file for The Stick itself, please let me know. I just built the field that The Stick is in (figured I'd start with something simple), but I ended up putting in the "big ol tree" (the one from Different Town) since Sims had that in there. :)

Image

Some bushes sittin around, The Stick in the middle (wish I knew how to code BHAVs so that clicking on The Stick would give you the "Hang Out" option), and some trees surrounding a pond... Bubs' Concession Stand is offscreen to the right.

If I remember right, Senor Cardgage came out from a bush when Strong Bad was walking to the right, I think toward Bubs' Concession Stand. So there are his bushes on the way to Bubs', and that pond is the fishing pond.

Sterrance St.?
Two streets called LUGNUT and SQUEAK that intersect?
Freshley's Street?
Your Street? (Literally, your street. Like how they're near your House in The House That Gave Sucky Treats.)

I'm getting this game soon (just realised my compy was good enough to run it) so I'd be happy to try and help.

You've got the stick and Bubs concession stand so now you'd have to add the sports ground, the forrest (from the halloween toons) with the cliff if possible, strong badia and of course all the characters houses.

As for street names I like the idea of using reference from toons like Lugnut and squeak and so forth. You could even try using names both real and fake like Chapman, Palmer, Lemke, Sportsinterviews and Dashing.

Yeah, I have the lots plopped for a lot of the places already (for my own reference), but just haven't built the stuff.

Built Bubs' Concession Stand last night; now I need to just whip up a sign to stick on the front of the building... My only problem there so far is that Sims 2 doesn't do basements. "Way-o way-o, I'll be in the basement!"

Let me get a screenie of the neighborhood overview. Sadly it's not shaped like the USA, but hey, Sims 2 doesn't let you customize THAT far. =P Not that I'm aware of anyway.

Image

1. King Of Town's castle. I thought this would be a good place since the street kinda circles around it, making it look like something "important" should go there. Plus, it's way off away from where the other characters live.
2. Coach Z's locker room. This was plopped as a residential lot since a)Coach Z lives here, and b)nobody would go here to just hang out anyway. He's just too creepy!
3. Athletic field. Just across the street from the locker room.
4. Homestar's house. Makes sense for him to be this close to the athletic field.
5. Marzipan's house. Again, just makes sense... Just down the street from Strong Bad's house (8), as it's been implied they live near each other...and just behind Homestar.
6. The Stick, some bushes, and The Pond.
7. Bubs' Concession Stand.
8. Strong Bad's house. I figured he'd want to live as far from the KoT, Homestar and Marzipan as possible.
9. Strong Badia. (Haven't plopped the lot yet.)

Note about Strong Bad & Marzi living near each other...in one of the answering machines, Strong Bad tells her to get a 100ft long coaxial cable and let it hang out her window, so he can get free cable. Although lots 5 and 8 are way more than 100 feet apart, for whatever reason it wouldn't let me place lots in that little space in between...so that's as close as I can get those two houses, on that street anyway.

That looks really good so far! :)

Maybe when I have a little more time I'll put up pictures my efforts. I didn't really put much thought into the lay-out of my Free Country, USA--but that's probably because I started one generation ahead.

To show you how complicated I made it for myself I came up with three families--the Winners, the Runners, and the Jengajams--that would eventually inter-marry to produce Homestar, Homeschool (yes, Homeschool), and Homsar.

Marzipan's family name is Confection. XD

In another area of town I have two houses across from each other--one with the family name Concession and the other with the name of Stand. Guess what will result from that.

I haven't even created families for the Strongs yet. I really should, I already have property put aside for them.

It'll take me forever to get anywhere with these families, though, because the "parents" of the canon characters are all still children for the most part, so I have a lot of playing to go. The King of Town is the only one who exists so far, and he goes around bothering everybody else. Nobody likes him all that much and he sits and cries in his castle all the time--but the Social Bunnies keep him company.

Coach Z's grandma goes around flirting with all the guys that currently constitute my town. The women can't stand her and always talk about her behind her back. It's funny.

I need to take pictures! XD When I have more time.

EDIT: Isn't there a way that you CAN do basements, through a cheat code or modification? I think you actually can...I've just never tried...

Maaan, I need to get my good computer soon, because I NEED THIS GAME!

I like the layout. Unfortunately, it looks weird with streets to me. XD

HOLY CRAP!! I love Sims 2!! My house in the game: 6 stories high, 7 family members (one baby, YAY!) and make 900-1000 dollars a day.

Enough of that, this would be a GREAT idea! I love it! When I was a little kid and liked Teen Titans I tried to make a Teen Titans Sim's place, but, it got boring fast. I have made a Zelda Monopoly though.

You don't have to. They're making a Nintendo monopoly, out sometime in June.

How do you say "Toastpaint" in Simlish?

Yeah, now that I think about it, there IS a way to do basements... In the Downtown area in the Nightlife expansion, there's a building that has a basement for vampires to sleep in.

EDIT: And thanks for the encouraging words! The thing that's stumping me right now is that Concession Stand sign... At least the encouragement will keep me going here. ^_^

I know in the Sims original version there was something you could download to make your own pictures. Is there something like that for The Sims 2?

Anyways, sounds like a good idea, maybe I'll try it out. You could also put the stone bridge in a thinner part of the pond.

Oh, and, though I'm not sure how you'd manage, see if you can put Strongbadia somewhere. maybe behind SB's house.

Haha! Looks really cool so far ^^ The Concession Stand is pretty much spot-on. If I knew *anything* about this game I'd help, but I don't, so I'll just admire the pics from afar. :P

What are those wiry things sticking out of the stand? (please excuse me if this is a dumb question, I have never played Sims)

That's just the floor grid since the stand's roof is actually a 2nd floor. They just mean that if I want to, I can extend the floor out as far as that white grid runs. When you actually play, they're invisible. :) Not a stupid question if you've never played The Sims :)

Yeah, no basements suck. Especially since pretty much all the action in SB's house takes place in "The Basement". Well, except for the sbemails.

Oh, and does that good ol' "Give you a thousand simoleons if you can name a certain rich guy's sled" cheat still work in 2?

Author:  Jake-A-Roonie [ Tue May 09, 2006 3:39 am ]
Post subject:

I don't know, I never played Sims 1. =P The cheat for like 50,000 Simoleons in 2 is "motherlode". There's one more cheat for a higher amount, but I can't remember what it is.

For SB's house, since we've never seen it on the outside, I'll do something a little different for it... We'll be able to use the basement, I think. :)

Wow. Jake-a-Roonie WINS!!!! The Concession Stand utterly, completely rocks my house! (Mine sadly looks nothing like it...mine's actually more of a grocery-store...but I don't have the software to do much in terms of custom work.)

You WILL be uploading this to a server, right? Right? *hopeful smile*

I'll trade! I can make custom clothes at least...I could make you a star shirt for your Homestar...

Author:  Jake-A-Roonie [ Tue May 09, 2006 1:22 pm ]
Post subject:

Hey, that's a start! :) I think there's a propeller cap in the original Sims stuff too... I'm sure we can recolor it to match Homestar's... Now the question is how to make his arms invisible. They can still be there, but we'll need to get rid of the textures. :D

I think as far as making the characters, that should probably be tackled as a separate project... The people at ModTheSims2.com are a little...picky about what projects they work on and how they help people out... so it may be a little later on before I can get meshes for our Sims out of them. =P

And yeah, I do plan on uploading this. I know, though, that there are lots of "policies" that Sims2 uploads have to follow to make the upload "clean." (Ie, I have lots of downloaded custom content, objects, meshes, textures, etc...and will need to make sure those custom things don't get accidentally packaged with the Homestar stuff. :P) But that's something that can be tackled later.

I just thought of something... Characters in Sims 2 can't take a vow of silence.

P.S. Thanks for the kind words, Windee. :)

EDIT: P.P.S. Windee, could you package up that KoT castle you made and send it to me? Email address is Jacob (at) RSJames (dot) biz. I have plenty of castles, but none that look like they could belong to the KoT. =P

Author:  Windee [ Tue May 09, 2006 1:36 pm ]
Post subject:

I don't know if you'd want my KOT castle. ^^;; I took a lot of license with it, it really doesn't look like his at all. If you want I can put up a few pictures of it for you to look at when I've got more time. (I can't really mess with the sims this week as I've got final exams to study for...in all actuality I really shouldn't even be ON this forum right now!) If you like the pictures when I put them up, I'll be more than happy to package the castle for you and send it over.

I've never thought of actually reconfiguring the body meshes, though. I don't even know how you'd begin to do that. I'm just a casual player of the game! I'm not that skilled at tinkering with the inner mechanisms of it! XD

Maybe one of the streets could be called "Jump Street." You know, from The Cheat's theme song?
"Who's the guy that lives on 21 Jump Street? Not The Cheat, Not The Cheat." :cheat:

Woah, Bubs's stand is awesome!! I never thought you'd be able to make it that well, that's way beyond my expectations.

Can't wait to see the rest of this. You should upload it to the transfer so we can download it, too. It'd be awesome to use as a neighborhood.

Jump Street is from a sitcom or some other show like that, isn't it?

I'd so download that neighborhood, though, had I The Sims 2. As it is, my computer sucks.

Why yes, the sictom was called 21 Jump Street, and it starred, among others, a very young Johnny Depp. :P
