This is just an idea. Not news of any sort.

For those of you who know what I'm talking about, how awesome would it be if the Brothers Chaps decided to create games for Nintendo's Virtual Console service on the Wii?

This is taken from the Wii website:

Quote:
[Virtual Console] also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budgets.

After all, TBC have shown repeatedly that they're huge Nintendo fans. What would be better than making a few cool Homestar games for a Nintendo system?

Any thoughts?

It would be cool, but they're not going to, I'm sure. They like, never sell their rights.

It would be nice, but I doubt it's ever going to happen. Ohh well, there's always dreams.

Yeah, I know it's highly doubtful. But it would be amazing.

And really, they wouldn't have to "sell their rights." They've been selling merchandise for years now, and making an inexpensive Virtual Console game wouldn't be much different, in theory. It's not as if they'd be signing away their intellectual property to Nintendo.

A nice idea, for sure, but the thing is, TBC aren't programmers. Bronco Trolleys is the most complex programming they've ever done, so they'd have to farm the work out to other parties, which would be tens, or more likely hundreds, of thousands of dollars in up-front investment for them.

I've always wished to see a console or handheld Homestar Runner game in Mario Party style, but I doubt it'll happen due to their lack of complex programming skills.

It's the newest Nintendo game console. Wikipedia knows.

Bronco Trolleys is the most complex programming? Why? You would think Stinkoman is, unless that was a joke. >_>

Anywhoo, I don't think there will be a H*R videro game, because 1] There have not been any for any other systems (like the GCube) 2] I don't think they really want to...

Doesn't a friend of TBC do the programming for Stinkoman and the other games?

Ohh! I thought he helped make that one too.. Is that the only game they made by themselves?

I think the split is that everything on the scrolling shooter games menu and Videlectrix was programmed by Jonathan Howe, and everything on the handheld games menu and earlier (like SB's Message Bored) was programmed by TBC.
I'd say the most complex game that TBC actually wrote would be that driving game on Message Bored, with Bronco Trolleys second.

I read in one of the interviews somewhere (I can't remember which one) that Jonathan just emailed TBC saying basically "Your games aren't very good, want me to help make them better?" or something... they did, and now they have the lots of cool games.

Edit, I found this, which is kinda what I was thinking of, but I think there was another one that was more like my quote above...

Much later edit: Tbird points out I was thinking of this.

The thing is, the games offered by indie developers on Wii don't have to be complex. After all, people are going to be downloading twenty year-old games from the NES, and many of those aren't much more complex than a lot of the games featured on H*R.

Heck, I'd probably pay a buck or two just to play Stink-o-Man on my TV.

Well, depending on how the Virtual Console system works, TBC might be able to apply for sale of some of their more popular games (a.k.a. Trogdor, Stinkoman 20X6, Peasant's Quest ((voice commands, anyone?)), StrongBadZone) on the Virtual Console store - since I'm sure Jonathon Howe would have no trouble moifying these games to fit the NES emulator. Who knows? They might start placing all of their games exclusively at the Virtual Console store! After all, they probably would make quite a bit of money off of it - who wouldn't kill to play Trogdor or Stinkoman with the new Revolution controller?

Uh...probably not (they can put it on their website somehow). Somebody, even if the link wasn't put anywhere on the website and you could only find it with a Wii or something like that, somebody who had a friend with a Wii would just find out the URL for the games, and access the URL from his computer.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see The Brothers Chaps give the rights to Nintendo. I don't think a video game is a very good idea for Homestar Runner; cartoons-turned-games don't have that great a track record (i.e. Futurama and South Park). Besides, I'd rather see Homestar Runner stay as a sort of independent series, and not sell out to The Man, yo.

I liked the Futurama game. Especially the sun levels. Toastpaint.

Nintendo totally doesn't count as The Man! :P

They probably won't do a full-fledged console game, but they might do a little some-something to put on the store thingy....

My point is that I'd rather see Homestar remain an independent business venture. Personally, I think it would lose its charm if they released a game on the Wii.

Wasn't there a Homestar RPG slated to come out for the Atari 2600, but it got canned?

It'd be nice if there was a H*R game for a system I'd actually have, but it'd be way too much unnecessary time, money, and effort for TBC. So no, there won't be a Homestar game for the Wii.

Yeah, and the atari wasnt made with small peoples in mind making games. But they still did start it, so I think its possible there will be a H*R wii game. If they can make a game (or at least start) on a system that wasnt made for average-joes to make games, then I think they could handle making a game on one that was.

I agree. Like the LOST video game coming soon, blagh. I mean, it's like selling out almost. Plus, you automatically know the game will suck, yet it will still make lots of money because it's made off of something already popular. Too bad, that's buisness.

Although something like a game for the Atari sounds good.

Well, the Wii will have Opera pre-installed, and POSSIBLY include Flash, so the current web-games could possibly work out of the box.

So, you're saying that it might be possible to visit H*R on the Wii? If so, then that's freaking awesome.

Assuming that Nintendo and Opera decide to include Flash support, that's exactly what I'm saying :)

Since when does something lose it's charm when it's released on a system?
