I know a bunch of you forumites use my Greasemonkey script, so I thought I'd tell you it's updated, with lots of new features.

First off, if you don't have Firefox, you'll need to get it. And if you don't have Greasemonkey installed for it, you'll need to get that too. Install that, restart Firefox, and come back to the thread. Don't worry, I'll wait.

Back already? OK.

Now, if you already use my old version, you'll have to uninstall it. Go to Tools→Manage User Scripts, click on "Homestar All‑In‑One" and click "Uninstall".

Now you're all ready to install the new version! Just right-click on this link and choose "Install User Script".

Old features that are still there:
  • Fullscreen toons on every page... no more loading the flash file directly any more!
  • Seek bar below every toon - easy fast forwarding and rewinding, plus pause, frame-by-frame and zoom in/out... essential for transcribing that one hard line!
  • A link to the appropriate HRWiki article on every page!
  • "Previous" and "Next" links on SBEmails, TGS, Answering Machines, Main Pages and more!
Brand spanking new features with version 2.0:
  • Works on Videlectrix, and the files mirrorred on HRWiki!
  • You can turn everything on and off with a preferences panel in the top left!
  • "Outside-the-frame" mode, where the Flash is made fullscreen, but stays the same scale, so you end up seeing everything outside the frame!
  • Turn everything upside-down, like on April Fools Day, 2006!
  • Replace the navbar with plain HTML links! (ok, so it's hard to get excited about this one, as I'm probably the only person it'll help)
  • Now with 155% more exclamation marks!
Known issues:
  • The way the April Fools content is done breaks the seek bar (it broke on April Fools proper, too). As such, the seek bar is disabled if you turn on the flipper.
  • April Fools content only works on the main H*R site - not on Videlectrix, the mirror, anything in subfolders (like stinkogame), etc... though it will try and fail (I should probably add a failsafe to turn it off before it fails, but I'm lazy).
  • I'm out of ideas for new features, so suggest some (in this thread or on the talk page) or nothing will happen.

not to mention, if you're on win 2K/XP, you will need to be in administrator to install it. ask the administrator, or get into the user when he/she is not looking. no, forget that.

Really? Maybe to install Firefox, but Greasemonkey and the script should install fine on a limited account (they both get installed into your profile folder).

And I know I've installed Fx1.0.7 on a limited account before, though I don't know if that changed in 1.5...

You've got the "full screen homestar runner" extension installed, and they're conflicting somehow.

Get rid of it, you won't need it.

Ooh, version 2. I was skeptical at first about getting H*R in full-screen, but since I've gotten it, I can't watch without it. Hopefully 2.0 is even better.

Nice work, Phillip.

wow. i only just noticed these points.
1) for some reason, i can now just skip the load screen using the bar.

2) i used to have this problem. the sound would just slightly be before the animating. e.g. character's mouth starts moving before they talk. your greasemonkey has fixed that somehow.

3) when an email would end, i would hear half a second of the easter egg. perhaps a result of fixed problem 2.

explaining number one more: my internet connection is not getting faster. now, i use the seek bar to skip past loading. i really don't want to question this.

If you're watching a toon for the first time, it probably won't work though.

Hey, this is pretty awesome. It'd be a huge help in writing transcripts. (If I ever go back to the KB )

nope. it seems that it sticks at the loading screen until the whole toon has loaded, but i can skip that and watch it just behind where it loads. like, two seconds behind what has already loaded.

Well, they already had the flash seekbar. I like it for the screenshots though. You can easily jump forward and back one frame at a time.

Naturally, but I didn't download the last one. So I had to write Mission Control and BCF3 by watching it over again and memorization. Image

But yes, this'll be great for screenshots.

This is cool for the fast forward+rewind, and the hrwiki links, but since I already have every H*R cartoon on my desktop, I already have H* full screen, and I use my own screenshot software.

freakin sweet. i love it. especially the bar at the botttom.

if you're out of ideas, here a somewhat good one. have it so you can just click a single button to turn off all the features. like, to make it normal again. so then you can go back and forth easily.

THANKS! I love the FF/RW feature! Full screen is cool. But that whole direct link to the wiki makes it ten times I Say... 10x I say... greater!

There already is one - click the little monkey face on the right of the status bar and you've turned GreaseMonkey off... no GM scripts will run.
Or, right-click it and turn off "Homestar All-In-One" - then it won't run, but your other scripts will.

I have an idea for a new feature, although I'm not sure if you can do it.

Why not have a feature where you can just click a button (or press a button) and have it take a screenshot of only the flash content itself. Instead of having to take a picture of the entire screen and editing out the browser window and stuff. That way if I want a screenshot, I can just hit a button (say F1 or something) or click a button and it saves the image to whatever destination folder you want it to be in as just the flash content itself.

Another idea I had was if you could make flash toons play backwards. I know that is crazy and probably not possible either, but it's an idea. I don't know programming so I am unsure of the limitations. The only reason I thought that'd be fun is that thread we had where everyone was looking for subliminal messages in songs and what not in toons when played backwards. That was fun. lol.

Those are really the only ideas I have for improving what is already an awesome script. Thanks again for making this.

Neither of those can be done in Javascript.

The former could possibly be done with a standalone extension, but it would take quite a bit of work, and the picture would probably require cropping after anyway, to get rid of the rounded black border and such.

The latter cannot be done, even if I wrote a Flash wrapper (like the 1 April '06 flipper thing), to the best of my knowledge... I think Flash only lets you play stuff forwards. Anyways, it can't be done from Greasemonkey alone.

Thanks for the ideas, though...

Former: There's a screen grab extension that works by loading a Java applet that takes a picture of the document viewport (it even scrolls the page to get everything in). Problem with that is that Java tend sto be inordinately slow - it takes about 20 seconds to start the plugin on my system (I don't know about anybody else).

Latter: What about writing some insane actionscript that manually goes to each frame in reverse order? Doing the sound would be hard though (it would probably play the sound for each frame forwards).

I had another idea... a SAVE AS option so you can quickly save the flash files from H*R to your computer.
