nice, but what about the other emoticons??? do i just edit that one part of the script and its all fine and dandy?

You know, I wrote that post with the intention of people actually reading it.

InterruptorJones wrote:
While you can still edit the user script itself to make a custom emoticon set, I no longer recommend this and may not answer related questions. Instead, I recommend making a .json file and uploading it somewhere, then using the Options dialog to configure pAU to use it.

However, your post did remind me to put in a note about the fact that upgrading to the new version will overwrite any changes you've made to the script.

Oooooh, I like how you can enter a bunch of sets so you don't have to make one big combined set anymore.
The user script command thing appears once the first time, when I go to other pages it's still there, but then when I go to the page again it appears a second time, then when I go to a different page it's still there. So... is there something you have to do when the page unloads that gets rid of the user script thing? EDIT: And... now it's back to normal. Huh.Image
Oh, and can you possibly make the preferences thing change the colors, too? I see you added it to the top of the script...

This appears to be a bug in Greasemonkey, and I'm not sure if there's any way to fix it. I'll keep trying, though, 'cause it's obnoxious.

I'm not especially inclined to do this, simply because the Options dialog is a huge pain (and I'd like to keep it simple), but if there's enough demand I'll consider it.

Whoa, that thing is nifty. Now we don't have to create a whole 'nother script for the emoticons.

Awesome work, Jones.

...why not? You can use any set that you could use before as long as it's uploaded somewhere.

In the Options dialog (read How to use the Options dialog in this post).

It's pretty unfortunate that you refuse to use Firefox. I guess there are still people out there who refuse to get a DVD player 'cause their VCR works just fine thankyouverymuch (the distinction being that Firefox is free whereas DVD players are merely dirt cheap). Anyway, if you're ambitious, you could try to clone/port my script to Trixie. Good luck.

HAPPY NEWS! I got my emoticon sets to work again! So just put 'http://www.nickellsworth.net/emoticons.js' into the prefs box, and it's a compilation of everyone's emoticons. I made this because some people want their emoticons but don't want/don't know how to make their own .js file.

Wow, that's a lot of emoticons. Image

The "teffdance" one is 404'd, though, and homestarrules.com seems to be down. :/

Yeah, teffdance was being hosted on my website, but I just cleaned out my files (deleted stuff) yesterday, and I seem to have deleted the teffdance.

First, please read this post again, VERY CAREFULLY, from beginning to end.
  1. What are you trying to do (in as exact terms as possible)?
  2. What steps are you taking (in as exact terms as possible)?
  3. What is or is not happening, and how does it differ from your expectations (in as exact terms as possible)?

Don't matter, I got it working now.

But what I did was:

I put the URL of the image in the user scripts commands thing.
with the img tags on it too.
These are the steps.
I uploaded an image off imageshack, copied the URl and put it in the user scripts commands...

But the important thing is, I understand it now. But I still wanna create an emoticon of my own though.......
It doesn't matter though Image IJ!

You should not be clicking on Edit for any reason. Just don't. That's not how it works anymore.

Yeah, there's a problem. Some sort of error in the script: Line 19, character 1. That seems to be a }. Could you help me a bit?

I don't see any problem.

// Change these CSS values to customize the appearance of the pop-up box
var customStyles =
{
backgroundColor : '#ffffff',
hoverColor : 'powderblue',
border : '1px solid black',
maxWidth : '200px',
maxHeight : '150px',
} << Line 19

That's the sad part. I see that exact same thing.

(Also, even if I wanted to use Greasemonkey, I can't log in on Firefox.
IE'S THE MAN NOW, DOG.
So I'm sticking with IE.)

Maybe it's that last comma on line 18 (even though it works fine for me). Try deleting it and see if it works.

Unless you've edited the script, there's no problem on or near that line (and yes, the trailing comma on line 18 is valid).

Well, if you're using that Trixie thing and running it in Internet Explorer, ???, then being 'valid' doesn't mean it will work...Image
