Look at the Main Page, then look at the "This week's featured article" and "What's new?". They're faded images. I sorta like the new style. H*R and SB are much better, and I like those gradient/chrome/whatever title things. But I've a question - will it be carried over to the Fanstuff and the Login page? |

I like it, but I wish that I could see SB and HR more. They just seem too faded to me to be very visible, especially if there is a lot of text in front of them. I kinda like the chrome, though. |

What if you made it brighter? Then it wouldn't stand out so much, like people complained about.
I actually like it, though. |

InterruptorJones wrote: As I wrote on the Wiki, I think it would benefit this process if you stepped back for a moment and disregarded the fact this this design is your creation and remember that not everybody's tastes are, or should be, the same as yours. There are no disadvantages to trying a few other things with those headers and seeing if they turn out to be as popular. If there's anything we've learned from the Wiki, it's that compromise is key.
Whoa, hang on a second. Why are you implying that I'm unwilling to compromise? This design is less than a day old. I'm just trying to make a case for why I chose to change the specific things I did. But I am perfectly willing to find a design we can all (or most of us can) like. There's no need to immediately suggest that because this is my creation then I can't possibly budge on it (although I do admit that it's a little unsettling to read in this forum that one's ideas "suck" ... I couldn't imagine being Matt or Mike and having to deal with people who with their knee-jerk reactions routinely pick apart TBC's hard work as though it was created by some machine rather than real people). On the contrary, I have already made other compromises, and I'm currently working on softening the chrome. |

Gah, looking back on it, I do think that "sucks" is rather mean and inconsiderite. I wasn't being exactly, well, respectful to your work, Dotcom, and I apoligize for it. I guess I'm just not really used to it, and in my opinion, it doesn't blend well with the old style of the Wiki. And even though I was saying these things about the thought and effort you put into it, you work even harder to find another style that we can all enjoy, and for that, I thank you. Sorry.

No prob, Bob. I have just made some adjustments to dramatically soften the chrome and enhance the characters a little, as they were not showing up on some LCD screens very well. Do a hard refresh to see the changes. |

Ah, it's cool, now. I like the gradients. It's dot com wrote: I have just made some adjustments to dramatically soften the chrome and enhance the characters a little, as they were not showing up on some LCD screens very well.
Thank goodness I'm short, because I get to see everything at a darker angle of my LCD monitor. When I stood up though, the characters appeared to be gone. They look a little darker now, though. EDIT: Oh, and what program and/or methods did you use to make the chrome effects in the last header bars? Or did you use some intense programming for it? |

The thing Speckeldorf posted wrote: ![]() What it needs is those Chrome/Gradiant panels to be rounded off. And maybe make it have more of a shine. |

I can do the exact same thing with The GIMP. |

For some reason there's a 'line' in Firefox where the picture of SB ends. Although the new 'chrome' things look ten times better than the last one. It blends in with the rest of the page better. |

I'm in Firefox and I don't see anything. If you look really really close you can see banding (which was necessary to keep the filesize down; these images are the main page after all), but I don't notice it on normal viewing. |

Oh, you're right. I was looking at the little band above SB's head and thinking that was the top of the image, but I looked at the image alone and I can see it goes much higher. Yeah, it looks good now. |

It's less horrible than it was before I guess. But I'm sticking with the original layout

I usually freak out in response to layout changes, but this one's nice and subtle for me. It's not too much of a departure from the original, but it looks shined-up and spiffy. I like the new HSR and SB in the background. Much more "pop-outy" and noticable now. Regardless of what anyone else says, I say, "Great jaaerb!"
