The excellent It's dot com has set up a new Wiki Main Page (well, not really "new", but different). SO GOOD! or NO GOOD!? |

Yeah, I saw this a few seconds ago. Um....it sucks. Ok, ok. Well, it looks too futuristic and to generic amongst really crappy websites (like SB's website, with those rotating .gifs and stuff). I think it makes our humble Wiki look like its trying to be all "awesome" and "CLICK THIS WEBSITE" and stuff. Well....that probably doesn't make any sense. Sorry. But please, change it back. |

Wow, sweet. It really looks nice. Subtle, but sweet. |

It's cool. I like subtle changes. |

I quite like it. It's a little more professional-looking, I think. Better than those bold primary colours and the almost daycare feel of the old version. Also, I never really cared for pink. It's quite an excellent design, I think. =) Almost reminds me of this here forum, even. |

I like it except for the gradient bars. They look very 1998. Gradients are cool, but gradients that fade to black? Egh. |

You need to adjust your monitor. Yes, they fade to dark colors, but not to black. And they're not strictly gradients, but more of a chrome effect. I thought it could stand to be livened up a little, don't you? |

Well, I was really tired this morning. When I saw the new main page design here, it woke me up. It's pretty cool. The washed out Homestar and Strongbad really look better than on the old design. The only think I don't like are the subject bars (or whatever they're called). For some reason, though cool, they feel like they stick out way to much when compared to the more mellow background. |

I like it for the most part, it's just a little bit too much gradient for meh. |

Same here. It looks almost like Freewebs. I like the StrongBad and the Homestar, but the subject bars look toooo.... 20X6 compaired to the backround. |

The only thing I notice that has changed is the gradients, and I don't like those hat much. they're OK, but everything else on the wiki is lightly colored, and these dark, "fade-to-black things" just don't fit. They stand out too much. It's something I could live with, it's not like they're terrible, but the old design was better. |

I like the SB and HR characters in the background more than the old ones, but I don't like the gradients. |

Ah, that's the word I was looking for. Chrome effect = 1998. Sorry, but it's true. Livening-up is great, but there are better ways to do it. Ju Ju Master said it pretty well: Everything else on the page is nice and light and those headers look like they were just bolted on. |

It's shiny and spiffeh, and I likes the faded H* and SB in the background. The site doesn't look so washed-out anymore. |

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you completely there. All the coolest Firefox, Windows, and other skins have gone to a that effect, and the one I used on the main page was based on one I found that was only introduced this year. This is an up-to-date design. |

I know the designs your referring to (though I would like to point out that most Windows and Firefox themes are appallingly bad), but.. well, the design on the Wiki doesn't look like them. The effects you're referring to are subtle and take a back seat to the content, but the ones I see on the Wiki detract from it. As I wrote on the Wiki, I think it would benefit this process if you stepped back for a moment and disregarded the fact this this design is your creation and remember that not everybody's tastes are, or should be, the same as yours. There are no disadvantages to trying a few other things with those headers and seeing if they turn out to be as popular. If there's anything we've learned from the Wiki, it's that compromise is key. |

Good thing I read the thread, or I would've posted something like this... It's not so much the fade-to-black thing I don't like, but the fact that it looks so dark. It could fade to gray, or even get lighter up to white maybe?
EDIT: The faded Strong Bad should have a transparent background, too. |

Yeah, Office 2007 is wall-to-wall chrome, and boy is it fugly. Vista doesn't look so bad, though. |

EveryoneLovesStevenRight? wrote: you guys's should defnitely(sp?) put random quote sounds on the main page.. like ed'lim'smilde's XANGA He'll prolly give the link to joo guys.... Well, proably not. It's more personal; I just made it to talk to friends, but yeah, some people on the wiki already know about it. If anyone wants to see my Xanga, you can probably guess my username.
![]() EDIT: I didn't know you've checked my Xanga lately, ELSR... I didn't know you still used yours EDIT: TOTPD! |
