Apparently there is a worm called homestarrunner.exe...is this in ANY WAY related to the site?

"homestarrunner.exe may cause serious harm to your system and will likely cause a number of problems, such as slow performance, loss of data or leaking private information to websites.

You should visit our free spyware removal page to make sure your system does not have other programs like homestarrunner.exe.

I doubt it's related to the site. The creator probably named it that to see if any fans would download it.

Searching Symantec for "homestarrunner" gives two results:
  • W32.Ogid - the one you mentioned, that, among a large list of other things, might call itself "homestarrunner.exe".
  • W32.HLLW.Lacon@mm - this one makes your computer seem to hate you... one of the things it does is set your homepage to The System is Down

I doubt either was made by TBC, if that's what you're asking... they're made by the usual losers who derive pleasure from sadism.

Okay. I was wondering, because I posted a link to homestar in my club on a virtual pet site, and the owner deleted it because it supposedly gives out viruses, namely homestarrunner.exe. :/ And then I went psycho and ran every virus scan program I had, which didn't find anything....so I went here.

Well, you can assure the owner that W32.Ogid merely uses homestarrunner.com's name to encourage people to open it... and is in no way affiliated with the site.

I mean, that virus can also call itself "DirectX9.exe"... does that mean they're going to block http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ from their site? Of course not, that'd be silly...

that one that makes your computer hate you is pretty funny... if i was forced to get a worm, i'd get that one. i'd go download it right now if it wasnt for the fact that i love me computer and dont want it to die or get mad at me.

But it totally screws up your compy... :| And like Phlip said, Spyware can have pretty weird names. Like all of those dozens of fake spyware protection programs and virus protection ones. But you know which one I hate? Viewpoint. It's not spyware, but adware, and it doesn't do any harm to you, other than slow down your compy and anti blocks pop ups, it can't HARM you, but it's annoying. Same with the Live365 tracking cookie. I'VE NEVER EVEN GONE TO THAT STUPID WEBSITE!

Hehe, I can't get attacked by .exe! Hahahahahaha! Naw, I think doorman is right. It was probably just so fans would download it.

That W32.HLLW.Lacon@mm worm is hilarious. If it didn't destroy the computer, I would totally get it.
