I'm aware TBC create their own original music for their cartoons, but does anyone know WHAT they use to make the music? A program, maybe? If so, which program?
On a similar note, do you like the background music on the site that they originally compose?

They usually use an old electronic keyboard/synthesizer, I believe. And it's an interesting... style of music. Not that good, but unique, and it enhances the toons in its own special way.

May I be the first to ask:
Are The Brothers Chaps the only people in America who still use an old electronic keyboard/synthesizer to create music?

I mean, it's interesting that they would never NEVER replace it with anything else. It's a real shame that this kind of keyboard is hard to find in music stores. I always wondered if it had more instrument sounds than the recent keyboards. Do you suppose it plays miscellaneous sound effects too?

Doesn't one of them play the Guitar for stuff like the Limozeen songs? They at least own a Guitar for that matter.

I remember one of them mentioning that they were in a band when they were in college. For some reason though, I could have sworn that they said they both play the guitar.

See the "Music and Video" section of the HRWiki Flashforward article. Apparently, they use either Audition or GarageBand, often with their Casio keyboard.

Awesome.

TBC really needs to start blogging, so we can know more about them.

Obviously you aren't part of any major underground synth pop scenes. ;)

I love the simple MIDI music of Homestar Runner.

The style of music TBC have really fits into the Homestar Runner universe. It would be disproportionate if the music was all polished and highly finalised.

OT:
Synthesizers aren't totally dead yet, btw. Sure it's not the 80's anymore, but if you look outside of the top-10 charts, you'll definitely find something. Besides, software-based synths are becoming more and more popular these days (even though they're still not as good as hardware digital or analog synths).

I think that the simple toons we hear in toons are usually done with keyboards/guitars by the chaps themselves...

but I think TMBG come in and help them out with some stuff every now and then.

Very obviously. I'm a musician/composer, and even though I'm not as much into that scene, I know of PLENTY of musicians who use old-school hardware to create their tunes. To them (and a lot of music hardware geeks), they understand that new and expensive isn't always "better"--it's just whatever you can use to make the sounds you want.

I'm pretty sure The Brothers Chaps do all the singing (except for Experimental Film and The Cheat Theme Song).

If you look in your Strong Bad sings CD (if you have it) It says that all the lyrics are done by TBC and Missy. There might be a song that has backup singers in it (The Cheat is not Dead), but other than those minor things, it's all Matt and Missy.
