Do dogs sit quietly on your lap and let you pet them for almost as long as you like? Are dogs quiet and contented, even on their own? Do dogs let you stay at home when it's cold outside and pretty much walk themselves?

My cat does all those things. Miaow.
Man, you are making cats sound boring.
Cats are actually more fun to play with than dogs. My cat wrestles with me, trys to attack my fingers from under the door, attacks any kind of dangly thing near it, goes insane whenever she sees a laser, and it's really fun to watch two cats wrestle each other, then join in (except my other cat died :(( )
But hey, dogs are fun.... throw a ball... and they bring it back.... good times.

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.

The amount of pomposity in this post caused my head to explode on impact.

"Ought" is not a pompous word. "You ought to do that" is not a pompous phrase.

Thank you, Ace, who is apparently now my temporary defense attorney.

Maybe it's a regional thing; no one I know where I'm from says "ought".

But back onto dogs. As I said way back on the first page, I'm torn between Westies and Scotties. Labradoodles are adorable, but I'm pretty sure they're not recognized as a breed.

That dog looks like it's scared out of his mind.

Ian, you are correct.

The "Labradoodle", or Labrador x Poodle is not a recognised breed, and never should be.
All the crap they started with hybrid vigour, and non shedding. The actual guy who first invented this cross in searching for a non-allergenic guide dog severely regrets this mistake.

Bad, bad cross breeds that people sell just to make money.

*off soap box*
