I am currently reading the dark tower series by Stephen King, it's a 7 part series and it's pretty long but not boring at all, you should check it out if you haven't already. By the way that's a cool book Lu bu is reading! [see post above]

Woah, creepy, thegunslinger.

I'm re-reading Wizard and Glass right now, 4th in the Dark Tower series.

I totally recommend the series. It's also somewhat different from most of King's stuff...reminds me a little of Eyes of the Dragon, though.

I would read the dark tower series, but my mom has read it and would never let me. I don't think Gunslinger's mom would ethier if she did. Fight the power! I did read eyes of the drangon. I wonder what ever happened to Flagg? Did Steven King ever make a sequel? I should find out.

Try to get it done before [s]my wedding day[/s] Towel Day. :)

Um... still Thief of Time and The Island of Dr. Moreau. The latter's an awfully slow read, but I'll get it done. I'll have to, or I'll fail.

Something called The Summer Tree. The descriptive writing is really interesting, plot sounds kinda nifty, but the pacing is very choppy and the dialogue doesn't feel organic enough.

Keep going. The Summer Tree is kind of slow and I stopped halfway through for a while, but the payoff is in the next two books.

I stopped reading "The Diary of Anne Frank."

I couldn't take any more. I felt this feeling of falling tear drops coming closer and closer. And I felt that it was wrong of me to go into her privacy.

I'm reading Daniel Handler's Adverbs right now. It's good, but not nearly as good as Watch Your Mouth.

And I read Angels & Demons last week. Dan Brown is a horrible writer, but his stories are good. I also noticed that he reuses ideas a LOT. The epilogue in Angels & Demons opens in almost the exact same way as the epilogue in The Da Vinci Code.

I've only read Watch Your Mouth, and it is fantastic. But definitely for grown-ups. That Mr. Handler is a sick guy.

I'm reading a mystery novel called Searh for the Dark that I borrowed from someone. I'm not really in the mood for it, but it's been languishing in the stacks for a month now and my friend might want it back before the next century. I hate borrowing books.

MHG--i've heard the same thing about Dan Brown from a lot of people. i never really bothered to read the da vinci code just because i never felt like it and im kind of glad at this point. but everyone i know who has read his stuff says its kind of...recycled.

i wonder if the plagiarism rumors about the ideas for the da vinci code are true? i mean, it's pretty well-trod ground anyway (from what i know about it) so i wonder if it's a correlation or a straight-up ripoff.

I think, just about since I joined this forum, I've been reading the triple trilogy by Robin Hobb. I'm still reading the second book in the third trilogy. I think I've been trying to postpone finishing the series, 'cos I don't think anything else I read will ever be nearly as good.
READ THEM, EVERYONE!

What's the name of the first book? I have something by Hobb in the stacks, but I forget what it is. (and where it is for that matter)

The first book in the first trilogy is called Assassin's Apprentice.

I work in a bookstore, and so read The Da Vinci Code just for product knowledge's sake. And then we got a bunch of copies of Angels & Demons in hardcover for $10, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. As I said, his stories are good (and compelling - real page-turners), but his style leaves a lot to be desired.

As for plagiarism... That's just a silly idea, I think. When you're basing a novel on fact (or speculative fact, depending on what you believe), there are bound to be some complaints and accusations. Just because Michael Baigent happened to write a non-fiction book on the subject, that doesn't make Dan Brown a plagiarist. Like the article I saw in the Globe & Mail, it's called fiction for a reason.

Anyhow, based on the two books of his I've read, I'd say that Dan Brown is like John Saul or John Grisham - he picks an idea and sticks with it, and it doesn't really matter whether or not he can really write, because you just don't want to stop reading.

Allright! That's the one I have. Now it's just a matter of finding it. I'm in the mood for a good fantasy novel.

I've been debating whether or not to touch any Dan Brown. I really dislike shallow characters and choppy styles... so off-putting. But I love a good page-turner! Hmmm...

Eeee - I could only stomach a few chapters of The Da Vinci Code myself. I'd say that anyone who likes vaguely religiously-themed Tom Clancy might like this. But my verdict: over...... hyped.......

I disagree with MHG about The Davinci Code being a page-turner. This was a real generic thriller with a few good ideas. In my opinion, read it if you want to see what all of the fuss is about but don't be afraid if you see the plot twists coming from a mile away.

Currently I'm reading The Legacy of the Drow by R. A. Salvatore. It's really a quartet (I believe it's called) which includes The Legacy, Starless Night, Siege of Darkness, and Passage to Dawn. I'll probably be reading it the whole summer though, I don't read a lot. :p

Ooh! I finished Adverbs, and discovered that The Basic Eight has been rereleased (I couldn't even order it online from anywhere for a looong time) so I picked that up yesterday, and started it last night. Seems promising, but then, Handler always is.

Everything Bad is Good For You. Awesome, AWESOME fancy danish. You gotta love a guy who claims that The Simpsons, the Sopranos, and Zelda actually improve your ability to cogitize.

I'm reading City Come-A-Walkin' by John Shirley. Cyber-Punk goodness with a nice dose of the sureal.
