I'm pretty sure it was me. I think it started with my wordfilter.

I dunno, someone stop me if I'm wrong.

Cool thing. Reminds me of the good old days, when a few of those fads (actually, only 1 that can remember, the argblbl one) were immortalized in my Insane Phrase Generator thing.

And by "immortalized" I mean left in there until it rotted and died.

Do you happen to still have the source for this somewhere?

Yay for projects and homework taking control of my free time!

Now that I have some more free time, I'll be able to get to work on this sooner. I already have a large list of things to add to the next update (including new features in phpBB 3), but if it a certain entry/improvement hasn't been suggested yet, go ahead and suggest it!

What's good about the upgrade to phpBB 3 is that I can now quickly edit sections using the BB Code buttons on the posting page without it scrolling to the top of the text box every time I click them.

It looks like he just copied the list from the HRWFW.

Exactly.

For the sake of time, I just copy+pasted that list onto the Table of Contents to remind me of who to put onto it; it's easier to find "regular" members that way. However, I will probably add more people to that list along with the people already there when it is updated with new info.

Also, since I'm assuming that Mike is not going to take down the Wiki for awhile regardless of its activity, I will probably cut back on the information presented in here (real life locations, real life names, etc.) and simply link to the Wiki. That cuts down on both time and the post's character-count.

EDIT (JANUARY 13, 2008): The above portions of the post are several days old, but here's a nice edit: All of the information in posts 1 and 2 are currently up-to-date. From what you may be able to tell in these posts, their section titles and entries are a bit easier to point out in the Great Wall of Text. The whole thing is still an eyesore, but it's the best I can do with BB Code.

Oh, and a minor detail: I removed my signatures from these two posts. Makes the Wall of Text even greater.

Also, Einoo was correct, I will be eradicating the Member Update System. It is simply way too much work, and with more regular members than I expected, it would have taken a great deal of time to update every week.

Hah; conveniently-timed, my friend.

Turns out that I've just finished updating once again! Well...er...for the most part.

The first four posts (Forum Terms, Forum Sections, Forumopolis Phrases, and User Directory) are now up-to-date and at version 2.0. With this update come several new things:
  • The Table of Contents now has links to each individual post. This may make browsing this wall of text a bit easier.
  • While Forum Terms and Forum Sections were updated several days ago, I have changed a few tiny details in the sections. The one that stands out the most is the current list of active/inactive mods and admins in the Administrator/Moderator entry.
  • The "Apparently In-Use" and "Somewhat-Retired" sections are gone for Forumopolis Phrases. Instead, I have each term's current level of use underneath their entry name.
  • The User Directory is completely changed. Completely. I suggest checking it out; it provides quick access to as much information as you want about users.*
  • A few entries have been added/updated in the Forumopolis Phrases section.

* As it states in the section itself, if you feel like you post often in the lower sections of the Forum, yet you're not on the list, then please PM me or post here if you'd like to be added. No offense to the members usually present in the upper sections of the Forum, but I'm focusing on the lower sections due to posting size and time limitations.

I also lack information on most users in the User Directory. If you have information to contribute to the user entries (Nicknames, Additional Information, etc.), then please PM me about it or post here. Just remember that there is a 60,000 character limit per post, and I've filled up about 35,000 of that, so your information may want to be a bit compact.

Eh, I added that nickname a couple hours ago, though I can remove it if you all want.

I also added Cleverdan and The Experimental Film to the User Directory. I don't know when I'll get a chance to finish up the other sections of this thing.

I'd think the that the criteria for inclusion on the list would be if you even HAVE a nickname. That shows you've been around long enough for people to bother. It does create some holes though. I have nicknames, but am I a regular user? It's debatable.

Uh...hm...well...

Eh, sorry, but I wouldn't want to put people on the list on the basis of whether or not they have a nickname here. A lot of frequent posters don't even have nicknames, or have ones that are used very rarely. As it stands, I'll put a user on this list if they've been here for a bit of time and are at least semi-frequent posters. Seems fair enough, unless I start running out of posting space, in which case I'll just delete some of the more-useless information.

Would you count abbreviations as nicknames? Because everybody always calls me Stu...:S

Edit: Nevermind, I just read it and saw you already put that in. (finally somebody noticed that I would rather be called St than Stu  )

Even so, that has its problems. What is "semi-frequent"? Would you measure that in posts per day? Of so, what is the cutoff line? How long is a fair bit of time? What's the cutoff line in that case? I've been here for almost a year and have .44 posts a day, according to my profile (which doesn't include Games and A&C) but I'm not listed as a regular user. Which is fine, but I'm guessing that many of those people (not all, of course) that ARE on the list have lower stats than that. If you want "regular user" to have any meaning, you have to give a tangible definition.

It's whatever I feel is a regular user. You post frequently? Okay. Not on the list? Ask if you can be added. If there's space in the post and I have the time, I'll more-than-likely add you.

The whole basis of this dictionary is to be a quick-and-easy resource for this forum, and it doesn't need strict guidelines that can be considered even partially complex to follow. This is the reason why I'm fixing up some of these sections; the Wall of Stuff [at this point in time] doesn't need a whole nomination process like I mentioned earlier in this dictionary's existence, and the User Directory didn't need a Member Update system to clutter it up more (which, by the way, somebody can post as a separate thread if they want to; it really is an interesting concept for the forum).

While the idea of having some more set-in-stone guidelines for some of these entries is a good idea, it just doesn't belong here. I'll give a bunch of leeway to any entry suggestions a user makes, and if it starts going out of hand, I'll simply delete some added information that isn't beneficial knowledge to this thing.

Add me if you like, but that's not what I'm talking about. The "Regulars" section isn't going to be useful if it doesn't actually tell you who's a regular.

Other'n that, nice job.

I'll add you in a bit. I also remembered about Somm-1 earlier. Eh, I have to look through the list of users a bit more.

Basically, the person will be removed if they have mysteriously disappeared, or if they announce their departure from the Forum. When this is done, I'm hoping to make it so part of the Wall of Stuff is the resting place for inactive users placed on the User Directory (this would also allow for easy switching between the two sections if the inactive user were to return). Of course, considering the fact that the User Directory took a few hours to put up, I'm not sure when I'll have the final sections finished.

Droideka: Fixed. Sorry about that, I used my user information as the copy+paste template.

I have also added Somm-1, MooKoo, and LordQuackingstick to the User Directory. Remember: you can also submit information about other users and entries along with your own.

EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to actually hit the edit button on the post. It's updated now.

Fixed. I learned the alphabet backwards (literally), so sorry. :P

LordQuackingstick wrote:

The next major update will hopefully cover the final sections of this dictionary, including the Fads and Wall of Stuff. With the upgrade, at least four new fads will be added to the section: Strawberries, Tires, Forum Comics, and AAAARRRRGGGLLLBLLBL!!! (or however it's spelled). Go ahead and suggest some more if you want; I may also add some of the other ones from the HRWF Wiki.
