Emotion ain't what makes emo music emo. If it did, TMBG would be EMOTASTIC and they're not, even though they write about depressing subject matter. (Yeah, yeah, obvious example. Stuffoo.)

Emo = whiny, basically. In my book, at least. And whiny and emotional are not the same thing. At all.

Exactly. They'll Need a Crane is a good example of this. It's hard to tell that the song is depressing at first because the tone is rather upbeat, but if you look at the lyrics they are quite depressing. In fact, any song can be turned around to sound emo if you do it right.

Just look at 30 Seconds to Mars' mangling of the Police's classic Message in a Bottle.

Here's an idea...

How about all the reektards in the world just learn that, contrary to popular belief, even if two different bands fall into the same genre doesn't mean that they're equally good. People say "all rap is crap like for totallys" yet unless they've heard every rap song in the world, which no ones has, they don't have the right to say that. Some people say "oh I hate all emo music! does tight jeaning whiny screamin kids need to grow a pair!" yet unless they've heard every "emo" song ever written, they should instead say "oh I hate Dashboard Confessional" or whatever band(s) they have a problem with. So if you don't like a band, you should state your opinion on a band and not a genre.

Everyone knows this, when someone says I hate all emo music, they obviously don't mean every song. They're more likely talking about the genre; just because you don't like genre "rap", doesn't mean you can't like a few rap songs.
