Well, to be fair, I've only seen one episode of the English version. I agree, the dubs aren't that great, but they're a FAR FAR cry from DBZ's dubs. And the plot gets much better as the series progresses - the first story arc is ok, but it really gets good at the second and third arcs, IMHO. Yes, there is still a long way to go in English dub work, which is why I stick to subtitles whenever possible. But it's still seen incredible improvements in the past years. |

I do agree, though. Not saying I don't. I saw an anime once, which I've not seen again, but the dubbing IT had was great. The voice actors didn't sound like they were doing an anime, especially for a few characters. The day a dubbed anime doesn't sound like a dubbed anime is a happy one. |

Sure, there are exceptions to those being crap to cool, but can anyone compare, say, Fullmetal Alchemest or Bleach or the other Adult Swim Non-Mecha Animes to the old-school Dragonball Z? Geez, I get sick even thinking about how I used to halfway like DBZ, but Bleach et al are amazing. I just wish Naruto had followed the same trend; unfortunately, America decided that that one was apparently too good to be left alone and completely ruined it. I have never found Bleach cool. XD So far, I've seen maybe one or two anime shows dubbed correctly, with the rest being movies. </endbleachrant> Still better than Naruto though, IMO. But when you said American anime, I thought you meant anime-styled American shows. Which I'll agree with. The earliest examples of American anime ripoffage were dumb and ugly, but Avatar is awesome--great art, deep plot and characters, humorous without resorting to overused anime techniques, and unlike any American-made cartoon I've seen in a long time, it makes me cry. And it too has really improved from its start, even though its start was still fairly strong. This reminds me of that one CN show, Code Lyoko. French anime? WRONG! |

I just thought of another electronics-related thing: DVDs At first, only the very rich could afford DVD Players and even then the DVDs weren't as large in space as today. Now, there's those crappy $30 CyberHomes everywhere (once you had one for a while, you'll understand), the poor can afford one, and DVDs have tons of space for special menu effects and such. Yesterday, it was the '80's computer, where it was slow, clunky, and expensive. Today it's fast, easy to use, and cheap. Add that, too. Computers. I still love the Tandy 1000 to the bottom of my heart, though. Someone get me an early model already!

There was this one time someone made a thread discussing insomnia, and IJ tried to ABP it, but the thing was, his link to the previous thread was the same one that was made. Not saying you were trying to do that, it was just sorta similar. Toast paint. |
