What do you do when you're feeling depressed to make yourself happy?

Myself, I watch cartoons. Funny ones. They never fail to cheer me up and make me laugh. They're like my therapy, sorta.

I read.

Generally, anything that allows me to focus completely on the task and stop thinking for a while.

I usually read this. One of my best friends sent it to me one day a while back, and I read it for comfort. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Plus, it's kind of girly. Shush.

Think about them one at a time BEFORE going on to the next one...IT DOES MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD, especially the thought at the end. 1. Falling in love. 2. Laughing so hard your face hurts. 3. A hot shower. 4. No lines at the supermarket 5. A special glance. 6. Getting mail 7. Taking a drive on a pretty road. 8. Hearing your favorite song on the radio. 9. Lying in bed listening to the rain outside. 10. Hot towels fresh out of the dryer. 11. Chocolate milkshake. (¡or vanilla or strawberry!) 12. A bubble bath. 13. Giggling. 14. A good conversation. 15. The beach 16. Finding a 20 dollar bill in your coat from last winter. 17. Laughing at yourself. 18. Midnight phone calls that last for hours. 19. Running through sprinklers. 20. Laughing for absolutely no reason at all. 21. Having someone tell you that you're beautiful. 22. Laughing at an inside joke. 23. Friends. 24. Accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you. 25. Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep. 26. Your first kiss (either the very first or with a new partner). 27. Making new friends or spending time with old ones. 28. Playing with a new puppy. 29. Having someone play with your hair. 30. Sweet dreams. 31. Hot chocolate. 32. Road trips with friends. 33. Swinging on swings. 34. Making eye contact with a cute stranger. 35. Making chocolate chip cookies. 36. Having your friends send you homemade cookies. 37. Holding hands with someone you care about. 38. Running into an old friend and realizing that some things (good or bad) never change. 39. Watching the expression on someone's face as they open a much desired present from you. 40. Watching the sunrise. 41. Getting out of bed every morning and being grateful for another beautiful day. 42. Knowing that somebody misses you. 43. Getting a hug from someone you care about deeply. 44. Anyways, I love to listen to a nice cheery song like Fine by Lemon Demon, or Pancreas by Wierd Al. I also read.

I actually talk to you guys, Gabbly, IM (but this pretty much only counts for Mandy because I hate IM), and on the forum. Talking helps, and you guys are pretty much the only people I talk to.

Read a book, hug a pillow, play a videro game, and sing a song. Not necessarily in that order, but they help. And drawing a picture or writing some sad poetry helps too...

But of course :-D

Me, I take a walk, eventually sit down and stew until realizing my depression is probably caused by being uncalm, then I start meditating, just sitting there until finally letting it go and getting out of my head, noticing my actual, physical existence and the world around me instead of my stupid head-chatter. Then I put myself in a happy posture and just smile, and it's amazing how just making yourself look happy physically actually makes you happy a lot of times. To celebrate, I cap it off by running around like a wild animal, growling and roaring.

When there's no time for that, though..

When I'm feeling depressed, generally the only thing that will get me out of it is a good night's sleep.

You know, sometimes, if absolutely nothing else helps and you just feel really bummed, a good cry does wonders. If I'm really upset, sometimes I just feel like I have to go and cry, but after crying a bit, I just get all my unhappiness out and I feel loads better. Like tonight--I got into a bit of an argument with a friend over some real-life issues, and I just felt like I needed to cry tonight. So I did, and now I feel better.

Also, there are some movies that are really great to watch when you feel bad, because they just make you feel happy. Like My Neighbor Totoro, because it's so cute and sweet. Or Monty Python and the Holy Grail, because it's just funny. Or The Nightmare Before Christmas, because it's so optimistic and goofy.

...Come to think of it, I always have wondered what's up with that movie's gothic fanbase. Yeah, it's got skulls and creepy stuff, but if you watch it, it's all about being hopeful and looking for purpose in life and love. Which is sort of the anti-goth. :P

I go into the backyard and throw a tennis ball against a wall.
Many many times.
I'm a pitcher in baseball, so it's practice, and it's a good way to relieve stress.

And I'll look like I am having a horrible time, but really, down in my heart, I'm having a tons of fun.

Listening to music helps. Here are a couple YouTube videos with songs in them that always make me happy. I just sort of randomly found these, so, uh, yeah. XD

Your Song - Elton John A very beautiful and touching song. Whenever I feel bad, I always sing the refrain of this song to myself.

Hold Me Now - The Polyphonic Spree This song always cheers me up. The line I always sing from this one is, "He's walking along with a soul in his lungs, / You stare at him long, you can find a new song..."

I Want You To Want Me - Cheap Trick Wow, it took me a long time to find a video that didn't use the horrible Kelly Clarkson cover version. XD Well, who doesn't want to be wanted?

Watching either Finding Nemo or Breakfast at Tiffany's will usually do it for me. However, if not, I add a cat or three and that makes everything all better.
