PS III
Lol, sorry i said PS II.

And i'm not saying i don't like XBOX or anything, i just don't think their sales will excel the PS III or the wii.

I personally think that the Wii and the Xbox 360 will come out of this generation looking a lot better than the PS3. The Wii's outsold the PS3 2:1 so far (and don't get on me about how it's because the PS3 didn't ship as many consoles- that's their own fault), and the Xbox did quite well this last year. I think we've seen quality games come out from Microsoft that aren't Halo (see Gears of War), and the Wii...well, you all know my feelings on the Wii (lol Nintendo fanboy). Fun to play, interesting, innovative games, GCN compatability, cheapest of them all...

I just don't really see Sony recovering from their launch and being #1 again this generation. I'm hoping the Wii will end up being the best, but I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox comes close, or is the best itself.

Can't you just use some of your elemental wizardry to slow down time so you can play more games?

Oh well, one day, when you're a multi-billionaire and send me checks for a million bucks every couple of weeks for no reason, you'll be able to play all the video games you want.

well good to see there's no flaming yet.

Anyways, I think Sony has been making too many mistakes, like forcing Blu-Ray on its customers. Not to mention the basic package doesn't have HDMI and Blu-Ray without that is pretty much useless.

I don't see it as "forcing" blu-ray so much as "allowing them to own a video game system AND have a blu-ray player, too.. Sony learned their lesson with Beta. Beta was a superior system (as I feel that Blu-Ray is, too), yet someone else flooded the market with VHS (I think it was JVC). Since there were multiple VHS players for every Beta player, it was only a matter of time before the market tilted towards VHS.

Right now, the market is pretty much even between blu-ray and HDDVD. Sony's just trying to put Blu-Ray wherever they can. Will it work? I don't know. It'd help if they had some big name studios sign on with them.

The PS3 does still play regular DVDs, right?

I never used the PS2 for that, anyways. needed some sort of code that no one would ever remember.

The code for playing DVDs on a PS2
1) press the eject button to open the tray
2) place desired DVD, label side up, into tray
3) close tray
4) when DVD menu comes up, press play..

at least, that's how it works on mine.

or just like the V-chip, there is an override code. just read the manual, and it's sure to be there.

EDIT: the PS2 override code is 7444

Funny.. I don't have any kind of override code on my PS2.

You have to activate the parental controls for them to be active. The default is "off".

The ps3 is failing miserably and that makes me happy.
Wii is a whole new experience and its flying off shelves.
PS3 is just a ps2 with enhanced graphics.
Xbox 360 is an xbox with enhanced graphics, enhanced memory space, and from what Ive heard enhanced online play.

Wii gets my vote!

Wii is pure pwnage. But I'm thinking of getting a PS3 (or more realilisticly(sp?), PS2) just so I can play Guitar Hero and DDR and all dat crap.

Oh, and what exatly is Blu-Ray? I've heard that term everywhere, but I can't see what the big deal is. Is it just a DVD with some fancy... lace... and...hot glue... all over it? :p

PS 3 doesn't seem to be failing too badly (you can't find them in stores).

Nintendo did a good job with the wii (they aren't as far behind with it as the gamecube was to the PS2 and the XBox).

To say that the 360 is an upgraded XBox is like saying the Super NES was an updated NES. There's a lot more than "better graphics and/or enhanced memory".

I like the 360. The online play isn't bad, but I only play against my friends (most of the online gamers are way too serious, and that gets annoying).

I think that because Sony's assets aren't entirely from game sales, they feel better about taking these kinds of risks. No matter what kind of graphics it has, $600 is a whole lot for a game system, especially considering that the games are also pretty expensive. The launch titles aren't really impressive either. A crapload of sports games, a lot of racing (what is it with Sony and racing?), and some other games that, from what I've heard, aren't really good. Except Resistance: Fall of Man . Still, they're going to have a lot of really good exclusive titles in the future, like Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Wii is my personal favorite. The thing is innovative, to be sure, and the low price has definite appeal. I have to admit that I fear the motion sensor is going to end up like the DS's two screens: most games will either make it into a gimmick or ignore it for the most part. But man, when it makes use of it in just the right way, it'll be sweet. The launch titles are pretty good, especially Twilight Princess. Nintendo's promised a pretty sweet amount of good games in the future (can't wait for Brawl), but I'm kinda worried about third-party support. Also, games that come out on 360 and PS3 may not come out on Wii, due to graphics and control differences. The best one could hope for is a watered-down version. Also also, ultimate backwards-compatibility with the Virtual console is a plus.

XBox 360 is probably the most normal of the three. There's nothing that really makes it stand out from the crowd. The graphics are pretty good, but so far there have been few titles that have really made full use of that. Gears of War is one of them. Of course, Microsoft has Halo 3 in their pocket, which will be enough to make a lot of people get one. Also, the 360 seems to be getting a lot of PC games, which makes it a good alternative to buying a beefy gaming computer. This one's on my list to get after a Wii.

i believe it's a DVD, but not compatible with DVD drives, so you have to buy a blu-ray player.

So then... why would anybody buy it? There has to be something missing... unless it has better definition or is quieter or something? Huh.

Bassically, a BluRay disc is the equivalent of Beta Vs. VHS: Fail due to Lack of Pr0ns.

And they say that Cleverdan's awesomeness grew three sizes that day.

Also, someone mentioned Resistance: Fall of Man. That's the main reason I want a PS3 as of right now. Insomniac hasn't dissapointed yet.

You could say that.. They could hold more than a normal DVD if the programming is true HD (1080p), but, downgrade that resolution to nomal TV resolution, and you could put something like every episode of Seinfeld on one disk.

Normal DVD: ~5 gigs..
HDDVD: ~30 Gigs*
BluRay~ 50 Gigs*

*figures are for single layer discs. They are working on multi-layer discs that will be able to hold twice or three times as much.

That's why I like the PS3, you get a Blu-Ray player (the cheapest Blu-Ray players at Circuit City start around $900.00) AND a video game console for around $600.

Still, I'm loving the 360. I haven't played the Wii or the PS3 yet, though.

If it wasnt obvious from me polluting the Wii thread, I think the Wii is genius. Instead of just backward compatibilty which the PS3 is yelling about, the Wii will let you play, and pay for games as vintage as NES games. But I have already talked enough about the Wii already. What I havent talked about is that the Xbox 360. I really didnt care for it, but then it just started coming out with good games recently, such as dead rising, gears of war, viva pinata, and soon to be, the holy of all holy games that were on the Nintendo 64 and never had a trequel on the gamecube, banjo kazzoie 3. If I wasnt a nintendo fanboy times 5, I would consider buying the 360 first. As for the PS3, I dont really think I would like it. Besides Final Fantasy, not many games appeal to me and neither does $600. I am not bashing the PS3, I can see how people like it, its just not appealing to me. So when it comes to console wars, and we just forget about video game rivalry, and sort of have a truce? It would be like the 1914 christmas of World War One. Some nice peace, and then we go bashing each others brains out.

Nope, I think Sega got out of the hardware business a couple years back. Seeing Sonic on the Gamecube pretty much showed they had tapped out.

Here are some up to date (note: these are estimates) sale facts. It is also a poll, and currently the wii is winning with over half the voters. AT these sale rates Wii may catch up and/or surpase 360 within a year.

Im all for the Wii but if I ever get the money I am getting a 360. I love it to death as well. This is because I play Smash Bros. competitively but I also want to play Halo Competitively. For now I may pick up an XBox so I can play Halo 2 until I can get a 360.

The XBOX 360 is only winning because they are really easy to find. The PS III is impossible to find unless you camp out near the stroe, so that's why it's losing. The Wii is similar to the PS III. (this is for the market shares).

For the poll results it's a bit harder for me to understand... how can XOX 360 be owing the PS III? I understand why the Wii is winning. CHEERS to NINTENDO FOR TRYING SOMETHING NEW.

Dude, Blu-ray sucks. Its like Beta tapes. When it was beta Vs. VHS, the VHS won because of one thing: Pr0ns. Since Sony doesn't like that crap, they're not gonna allow Pr0n companies to use their discs, so they're only gonna use HDDVD. In the End HDDVD is gonna be in demand, and Blu-ray is gonna have a bunch of Disney movies that suck.
