There will be a total lunar eclipse tonight! Check NASA to find out what time it will be happening in your time zone. Come back here tomorrow morning to discuss the coolness thereof.

What do people find so interesting about eclipses, anyway?

I've never actually seen a lunar eclipse, although I've always wanted to. Thanks for the link, Joey!

Lunar Eclipses are cool because the moon turns an orangish-ocrish color. It's cloudy over here, so I don't get to see it.

I don't have much hope in seeing it, since I'm in humid, cloudy Florida, but on the NASA website that Joey provided, there are many links to webcasts of the eclipse.

Yeah, it's about 9:24 here in Ny and it's just about to start. And it's a nice clear night.

we have a nice, low overcast here... can't see ANYTHING... sadly, it looked like it was clearing up about 2 hours ago, then BAM we're caged in with overcast. Oh well, I saw one last year... Don't remember if it was total, but it was still cool.

Boo, I couldn't see it either. It's like pea soup out there, I can barely see 3 blocks much less to the mooooooon.

Yeah, I saw it tonight

Kinda ironic that the Red Sox win the World Series the same night there is a lunar eclipse, isn't it?

No, that's not ironic, it's coincidental.

Crappy clouds...

I didn't get to see anything either. I did see one of the two that happened last year, so I don't mind missing it, and we need the rain here in Salt Lake, so it's a good thing. Still...

:sm:

Crappy Cardinals. I didn't get to see it either, and it's all their fault.

Yes, you could. It was cloudier over here and I still saw it (along with the Red Sawx). In fact, I think they showed a shot of the eclipse on T.V.

Skies were clear in Denver. It looked great. Not as orange as I thought it was going to be though. I'm an advisor over a group of 12-13 year boys for my church, and we had an activity during the eclipse last night, so we went out for a while to look at it. I found out that one of the boys is native american, and it is against his tribe's traditions to look at lunar eclipses. I thought that was interesting, as I had never heard that before. Is that belief specific to certain tribes? Has anyone else ever heard this?

For those of you who missed it (like me), there are plenty of photos of the eclipse on Flickr.

Well, I managed to see it. Much cooler then a normal eclipse of the moon or something. It cleared up just as the moon started to lose the red.

It wasn't too cloudy over here (in Michigan), so I had a pretty decent view of the eclipse. Unfortunately, the eclipse only started at about 9:30, and I was too tired to stay up and watch it all. I waited until the moon was almost completely covered, and then it was lights out for me. Still very cool, though.

For all of the peoples that missed the eclipse, gather around and I shall tell you a tale:

I went out at about 8:30 to see the beginning of the show, I went to the back of my local school and my friend and I laid there on the pavement and marveled at the fact that the moon was being swallowed by what looked like God's hand. Later we went to the local Dunkin Doghnuts to warm up and get something to eat. We then went to another open pasture and the moon was half dark (for all of the people that have to imagine think of the Halo loading screen). It was almost 10:30 by time the moon was all red and I had to go home, all in all it was a pretty amazing experence.

I'm glad you all enjoyed our eclipse! As the representative of the Buzdor Institute, we're proud of sponsoring the stunning October 28, 2004 lunar eclipse! We consider the event a complete success, entering totality just as planned. On the bottom of the Institute page, you can see a composite animation of pictures taken on Cambrey campus. At the same time, the campus Observatory telescope allowed staff and visitors to look at the eclipse in even more detail than we could photograph with existing equipment. Thanks to those that took part in the event, and who participated in the observation. Please try to make it back again for the next sponsored heavenly event!
